1 EDITING ON FINAL CUT PRO BUILDING BLOCKS OF A FINAL CUT PRO PROJECT: Projects (Think of it as a big folder, or your binder), which include all the elements of your movie, such as clips, sequences, and bins. Bins (small folders) You use bins to organize your clips, including video and audio clips, as well as graphics files. The classification of bins is a throwback to the old film days when cloth bins were used to keep film. Clips in your Final Cut Pro project that reference the media files Sequences that you use to arrange clips in chronological order to convey your story or message NAVIGATING AROUND FINAL CUT PRO J-K-L tools these keys will become your best friends on the keyboard To play a clip forward: press L (up to 3 more times to go faster) To stop playback: click the Play button while the clip is playing (or press the spacebar), or press K To play a clip in reverse: Shift-click the Play button, or press Shift + Space, or Press J To play at a slower speed: Hold K down, while tapping J or L to go forwards and backwards Hold K down, while pressing J or L simultaneously to go in slow mo To move the playhead one frame at a time, do one of the following: Press the Right Arrow key to move forward Press the Left Arrow key to move backward.

5 HOW TO EDIT: Three-Point Editing in Final Cut Pro In a three-point edit, you can define any three points of an edit, and Final Cut Pro will calculate the fourth point for you. Here's an example: 2. Park the playhead in the Canvas at the sequence In point (the point where you want your new clip to start). Specify your In point by pressing "I" on the keyboard. 3. When you insert the new clip into your sequence, Final Cut Pro uses the duration of the new clip insert to calculate the sequence Out point. INSERT EDIT An insert edit inserts the In-Out clip from Viewer to the In point on the Timeline. Everything to the right of your inserted clip shifts over. 2. Set the sequence In point by positioning the Timeline or Canvas playhead where you want the edit to occur. Specify your In point by pressing "I" on the keyboard. 3. Drag the source clip from the Viewer to the Insert edit area in the Canvas overlay. 4. The source is inserted into the sequence. OVERWRITE EDIT An Overwrite edit places the In-Out clip from the Viewer OVER any clips that are located past the In point on the Timeline. Use this tool if you want to REPLACE a clip. 2. Set the sequence In point by positioning the Timeline or Canvas playhead where you want the edit to occur. Specify your In point by pressing "I" on the keyboard. 3. Drag the source clip from the Viewer to the Insert edit area in the Canvas overlay. 4. The source clip is added to the sequence, overwriting any existing sequence material on the targeted tracks that falls between the sequence In and Out points.
How You Use the Timeline
How You Use the Timeline The Timeline and the Canvas display two different views of the same sequence. The Timeline shows the chronological arrangement of clips and layered video and audio clip items,
