Product Bulletin Issue Date March 31, 2003 Metasys System Configuration Tool (SCT) As an integral part of the Metasys system extended architecture, the System Configuration Tool (SCT) supports the engineering, installing and commissioning of your building automation system. The SCT software package runs on a PC platform and enables offline generation of the complete system including point naming, schedule and trend log definition, integration of N1, N2, BACnet and LONWORKS networks and the creation of custom control logic using a graphical user interface. It also maintains the archive database for the site. User navigation trees, user graphics and programmed sequence logic can be tested by an offline simulation feature in the SCT prior to starting up the system on site. The SCT also manages the downloading of the archive database into the Network Automation Engine (NAE), Network Integration Engine (NIE) and the Application and Database Server (ADS). To keep the archive database current, the SCT can be set up to schedule regular uploads from the devices on the site. When the system is operational, online changes to the database can be made at the NAE, NIE or ADS that have the same Web browser-based user interface as was used for the offline data generation in the SCT. The tools to configure and commission the Metasys N2 field controllers supervised by the Network Automation Engine are also included in the SCT. The user easily transitions from navigating the entire site to verifying the operation of a specific controller on the field network. Figure 1: System Configuration Tool User Interface Features and Benefits Offline System Generation and Simulation Same User Interface Design as in Online System Wizards System Configuration Guides N2 Field Controller Support Software Packaging Options Allows you to view and simulate the user interface and programmed logic of the Metasys system in offline mode during the engineering process. Metasys System Extended Architecture Overview The Metasys system extended architecture is scalable to meet your needs whether you have a small or large facility, a single building or multiple sites. The system comprises one or more Web-enabled network automation engines linked to an Internet Protocol (IP) network. The User Interface (UI) is built into the Network Automation Engine, and operators access data and send commands from a Web browser that is directly connected to the local network, connected by modem or via a wide area network. The Network Automation Engine (NAE) is used to monitor N2 bus or LONWORKS enabled field controllers. The NAE is also used for the integration of BACnet devices on the IP network. For the integration of Metasys N1 networks, the Network Integration Engine (NIE) is required. Both devices are available with an internal modem for installation in remote buildings connected only by telephone line to communicate with the main network and access from Web browsers. Sites with multiple network automation engines and a requirement for many concurrent users normally have an Application and Data Server (ADS) to coordinate access to the NAEs and NIEs over the network and automatically archive operational data on a regular basis. The System Configuration Tool (SCT) performs offline definition of the system configuration, download of the database to network automation engines and database backup. The SCT software can be installed on a laptop PC platform along with Web browser software to generate and operate a system of one or more NAEs or NIEs. It can also be integrated into the ADS for the management of larger systems and networks. 2 Metasys System Configuration Tool (SCT) Product Bulletin

Offline Database Generation Creating the User Screens The Metasys system extended architecture provides two operating paradigms within the user interface: the navigation tree view and the user graphic view. As the database is being created offline in the SCT, the information is presented in either view as if you were online. Navigation Tree View As you build the database for the system, the SCT creates a basic navigation tree of the site network hierarchy that includes the site, its field networks and hardware devices. Input and output points, data value, and logic objects appear in the navigation tree under the network engines or field controller devices. The navigation tree is displayed to the left of the screen and detailed information on the selected item or object in the tree appears in the panel on the right of the screen. When the basic site navigation view has been generated, user specific navigation trees can be created that represent the physical layout of the buildings and the relationship between mechanical systems that make up the site. Different navigation views can be created for each operator depending on job function and area of responsibility. Building floor plans or mechanical equipment diagrams created with standard drawing packages in Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) or JPEG format can be imported into the system as background images. In the SCT, the user overlays display icons and text boxes that are linked to dynamic information from field controllers such as sensor values, set points, alarm states, and system modes that appear within the graphic in online operation. The SCT allows you to use a single background image for multiple similar mechanical systems. If the set of point data to be displayed from similar systems is always the same, the linking is done only once and is then applied to all systems. This feature enables the rapid generation of graphics for terminal units such as Variable Air Volume (VAV) boxes or fan coil units where up to several hundred identical units may be installed on one site. A link to another graphic is easily integrated within the graphic diagram to allow the operator to quickly move between related mechanical systems or to penetrate into the detail of a system or building area. The operator can also switch between the mechanical or electrical systems and the areas that they serve for rapid identification of possible fault locations and the cause. Graphics are also referenced in the navigation trees to allow the selection of a mechanical system or a specific building area within the tree and the display of the data in a graphic. Figure 3: Navigation Tree View User Graphic View Graphic views can be created with the SCT to allow the user to visually explore sections, floors, and specific areas of buildings or to display diagrams of systems, equipment, and processes with live data. Figure 4: User Graphics Tool 4 Metasys System Configuration Tool (SCT) Product Bulletin

Wizards - Step by Step Guidance The SCT has built-in wizards to lead the user through the process of database generation. The actions that are necessary to define the site, its application servers, network engines, field controllers, user graphics, data points, schedules, alarm and trend recording, and control strategies are all performed with the help of a series of dialog screens called wizards. These same wizards are used to add information to the views when the system is online. Online help is available to explain the context and meaning of each piece of data that the user has to enter. For repetitive actions, like adding multiple mechanical system structures into the navigation tree view or duplicating graphic views, a basic copy and paste function is provided. These features enable the user to define the database quickly and accurately. Figure 5: Insert Field Device Wizard Custom programs for site-wide building management can be created using the Logical Connector Tool (LCT) that is an integral part of the SCT. The graphical programming paradigm enables you to design control strategies from simple interlocking of supply and return fans to complex processes for sequencing chiller or boiler plants. Figure 6: Logic Connector Tool As you are creating the control strategy, the tool checks that all the connections between the logic elements are logically correct and that none of the required connections are missing. When the logic is complete and saved, the LCT allows you to run the logic in an offline simulation mode to verify the operation before downloading to the NAE or NIE device. Defining N2 Bus Field Controller Data Points The System Configuration Tool includes the tools for creating the configuration files for N2 bus field controllers as follows: HVAC PRO for AHU, UNT, VAV and VMA controllers GX Tool for DX-9100 controllers with XT modules XTM Configurator With the help of a wizard dialog, the configuration file for an N2 bus controller can be used to create the data points in the navigation tree and user graphic that are appropriate for monitoring the configuration defined in the controller. The configuration files for the controllers are stored in by SCT in the database along with the NAE archive database providing a single and secure site archive. Defining Operational Features The features that provide operational and historical data to the user and schedule the operation of mechanical and electrical systems in the building can also be generated in offline mode. Wizards are provided to guide the user when defining these features: alarm and event processing and routing calendar definition and scheduling network wide interlocking and data sharing optimal start programming run time, event and energy usage totalization historical trend data management System Integration Metasys N1 Network Integration The integration of data from a Metasys N1 network system is managed using similar procedures and the same user screen layouts as for defining controllers on a field network. A basic navigation tree shows the network structure and data points of the integrated N1 network. You can also create user defined navigation trees and data values can be shown as live data in graphics. User navigation trees can be created that are similar to the network map on the N1 OWS workstation to help the operator to transition to the new system. The database file from the Metasys N1 network is used to automate the generation process. A series of dialog screens - the N1 integration wizard - guides the user to import the N1 network database into the SCT and create the navigation trees. User graphics, custom programs, and operational features can then be defined for integrated N1 data points in the same way as all other data points. The archive database created by the offline integration and configuration process is downloaded into Network Integration Engine (NIE) during the installation and commissioning process. BACnet Controller Integration The navigation tree for the BACnet network integration lists the devices that the selected NAE will monitor. The standard BACnet objects to be monitored are listed under each device. Using the SCT in offline mode, this information can be entered for each BACnet enabled device. User graphics, custom programs, and operational features can then be defined by the project engineer for the BACnet objects in the same way as all other data points in the Metasys system. 6 Metasys System Configuration Tool (SCT) Product Bulletin LONWORKS Network Integration The navigation tree for LONWORKS network integration lists the devices on the LONWORKS network of the NAE and the network variables that reside in the network interface of each device. Using the SCT in offline mode, this information can be entered for each LONWORKS enabled device. Alternatively the LONWORKS enabled device external interface (XIF) can be imported into the SCT for the automatic generation of the basic navigation tree for the device. User graphics, custom programs and operational features can then be defined by the project engineer for the network variables in the same way as all other data points in the Metasys system extended architecture. The archive database created by the offline LONWORKS network integration and configuration process is downloaded into Network Automation Engine (NAE) during the installation and commissioning process. Online System Commissioning When the offline data generation process is complete, the archive database is downloaded from the System Configuration Tool to the NAE and NIE devices installed at the project site. If an Application and Data Server (ADS) is also installed on the site, then a copy of the database is transferred to the ADS and the SCT within the ADS can now be used for any future offline data generation. Online system commissioning can now begin. The online user interface is embedded in the NAE, NIE, and ADS and the online user screens have the exact same format as the offline screens of the SCT. A key difference is that the current data values from the running system are now displayed in the display screens and alarm and event processing, trend data collection and display and user transaction logging are all active. The configuration tools for N2 bus field controllers in the SCT can be invoked online to use the commissioning utilities, allowing direct access to the controllers through the NAE to adjust parameters and verify the correct operation of the control application. If additions, modifications, or deletions are made to the site database during the online commissioning process, they can be uploaded into the SCT or ADS to update the archive database. This includes the detection and integration of field controllers, N2 bus, BACnet devices or LONWORKS enabled devices, by the online automatic discovery process that can be used to check all connected devices have been generated in the database. The automatic discovery process can also be used to accelerate the database generation process when the system is already installed.

Conclusion The SCT is a comprehensive software tool for the generation of your Metasys network and building automation system. It enables you to prepare the complete database in offline mode while the system is being installed, including all the required features such as scheduling and trend data collection. The user is assisted in the entry of data by a series of guidance dialog screens called wizards which, along with help menus, significantly reduce the time to configure the system, minimizing the learning curve for new engineers and enhancing the accuracy of the data. The definition of Metasys N2 bus controllers, LONWORKS enabled devices, and N1 network integration is accelerated by the import of data from controller and network configuration files, making use of information that has already been defined and avoiding duplicate data entry. The user interface of the SCT has exactly the same look and feel as the online user interface of the NAE, NIE and ADS in the Metasys system extended architecture network. This makes it easy for you to transition from offline to online operation and from a simulated environment to a live system. The System Configuration Tool has been designed to be your one-stop shop for all your configuration needs and to contribute to the value of your investment in the Metasys building automation system.
