Rational Development and Test Environment for System z v8.5.0.2 Release Letter Product Description Rational Development and Test Environment for System z provides System z functionality, with selected emulated I/O devices. This Program is licensed only for development and test of applications that run on IBM z/os. The Program may not be used to run production workloads of any kind, nor more robust development workloads including without limitation production module builds, pre-production testing, stress testing, or performance testing. System Configuration and Prerequisites The supported levels of Linux are the 64-bit version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.0 or greater, the 64-bit version of opensuse 11.0 or greater, and the 64-bit version of SLES 11 SP1 or greater. Earlier versions of RHEL or opensuse are not supported. System z (SC14-7281-04) depending on your version of z/os. Please be sure that you have installed the appropriate version of Linux and the prerequisites before proceeding to install the product code. Note: Although Rational Development and Test Environment for System z is a 64 bit program, you must have 32 bit runtime support installed for the installation and operation of the program. If you have already installed the appropriate version of Linux and the required prerequisites outlined in Redbook SG24-7722, and you are upgrading from Rational Development and Test Environment for System z, to install this level, please proceed to the next step. The Installation Disc of the Rational Development and Test Environment for System z software media pack includes an installation wizard named RDT850-wizard.bin that creates a set of files that you will use to install Rational Development and Test Environment for System z. The wizard displays the offering license and allows you to select a target directory for storing the installation files and documentation. After you run the wizard, accept the license, and select a target directory, the wizard unpacks the installation files and documentation into the target directory and finishes. After the installation files have been created, use a command line to change to the directory containing the installation files and run the install program named RDT850_z1091-1-3.43.24. This program must be run with superuser authority (root privilege). When you have finished running the install program, use the instructions for configuring your Linux system files located in the second Redbook volume, System z Personal Development Tool: Installation and Basic Use (SG24-7722-04). For information on the configuration of license servers, see Appendix D. License and serial number servers of the Configuring z/os 1.12 with IBM Rational Development and Test Environment for System z Guide, SC14-7281-03 or, Appendix D. License and serial number servers of the Configuring z/os 1.13 with IBM Rational Development and Test Environment for System z Guide, SC14-7281-04. If you are installing IBM Rational Developer for System z on a system that will not use a license server or you are setting up a license server, be sure to plug the USB hardware key into an available USB 2.0 slot. If you are planning to install the USB hardware key in a USB hub make sure that the hub is externally powered, otherwise, you could damage the USB hardware key. Ensure that the system clock is correct before plugging in the USB hardware key. If this is a brand new USB hardware key that has not been activated yet, you will need to install a license updafile to be able to activate the USB hardware key. If you need to update or obtain a license update file for the USB hardware key, effective with this release, the utility SecureUpdateUtility must be run as root from the /usr/z1090/bin directory. After making configuration changes to the Linux system files as described in Redbook SG24-7722, be sure to run the command z1090instcheck to check if conditions of your system are favorable for Rational Development and Test Environment for System z. You should run this command from the userid configured to run the Rational Development and Test Environment for System z application.
