The software programmable 12-bit pre-amplifier and offset amplifier enable ADA2-212 board operations with the valid input range of +10mV and +10V with variable offset voltages. The input resistance of each channel is 20 kohm. Analog Outputs The analog differential outputs of the ADA2-212 board have the same software-programmable frontends as the analog inputs. The analog output voltage range is -9V to +9V. The output resistance of each channel is 20 Ohm. Anti-Alias Low-Pass Filter The integrated Butterworth low-pass filter (of 8th order) has an attenuation of 48 db/octave. The corner frequencies are software programmable in the range of 0.1 Hz and 50 khz. Corner frequencies between 50 khz and 200kHz as well as several filter configurations are adjustable via soldering bridges on the ADA2-212 board. An alternative to the Butterworth low-pass filters are the Bessel lowpass filters which have a better transient response but also a considerable attenuation in the passband. AD-Converter The 2-channel ADC AD7862 from Analog Devices has a 12-bit resolution and samples both channels in parallel with a sampling rate of up to 250 khz. The AD-converter can be replaced with the pincompatible AD7863 in order to increase the resolution to 14 bit. Both converters are power consumption optimized and perfectly fit the micro-line low-power concept. DA-Converter The digital-to-analog converter AD7247 from Analog Devices provides two output channels with a minimum settling time of 10µs per channel (2 x 100 KHz rectangle possible). FIFO Buffer The ADA2-212 board has a 512 sample deep FIFO buffer in order to optimize the burst behavior and the interrupt load between the AD-converter and the connected processor. The interrupt triggering can be set on 1, 256 or 512 samples via software. Due to this feature, the ADA2-212 board operates with minimum system reaction time or with minimum interrupt load. E²PROM In order to permanently store adjustments of the operating parameters the ADA2-212 board has an integrated serial E²PROM of type 24C02, with an I²C Bus interface. With this zero-balancing, offset and amplification can be stored into the permanent memory. After a reset, the parameter settings can ORSYS Orth System GmbH 2001 2
be read from the E²PROM and there is no need to zero-balance the ADA2-212 board again. The I²C bus ports lead to the periphery in order to enable external expansions. The supplied C-software drivers support all accesses to the E²PROM module. Direct hardware accesses from the application software are not necessary. Triggering The AD-converter of the ADA2-212 board can be controlled via an external trigger signal. In the continuous sampling mode, a single rising edge starts the conversion. In the single shot mode, each rising edge of the trigger signal starts a new burst of samples. The ADA2-212 board can also act as trigger master to start the conversion of other ADA2-212 boards which are configured to accept an external trigger signal. Software The ADA2-212 software includes functions to initialize the ADA2-212 board components to start a measurement or to permanently store the parameters. The software supports all ADA2-212 board components and has to be used for hardware control. The functions which are necessary to control the ADA2-212 board are combined in a library. Translated versions for the Texas Instruments DSPs C3x, C44x and C6x11 are available. Translated example programs for the micro-line modules C31CPU, C32CPU, C44CPU and C6x11CPU are included. Synchronous Parallel Drive of Several Boards Several ADA2-212 boards can be driven in parallel and synchronously. This means, that a higher number of exactly parallel sampled channels can be implemented (with a sampling rate of up to 250 khz of each channel). The synchronous mode of the ADA2-212 can generate a huge amount of data which can be processed by several processor systems operating in parallel. Thus, the number of possible processors and analog channels is virtually unlimited. ORSYS Orth System GmbH 2001 3

Dimensions All dimensions are provided in mm. All dimensions are provided in mm Power Consumption The following table shows the characteristic power consumption of the ADA2-212 board. Minor alterations depending on the sampling rate and the clock frequency of the connected processor are possible. The entire ADA2-212 board power consumption is about 4.5 W. Due to the small design, a warming of the board is possible and it is important to have sufficient ventilation. Under normal circumstances, the natural convection is sufficient for cooling. Mandatory ventilation can be necessary depending on the warming of the plugged-on processor module and the size of the used case. Voltage Input Voltage Range ch.
