Chapter 1: Intrductin Chapter 1: Intrductin This dcument prvides an verview f the cmmunicatin ptins supprted by SlarEdge devices. SlarEdge devices are categrized as fllws: Inverter, Safety and Mnitring Interface (SMI) r Cntrl and Cmmunicatin Gateway (CCG). Fr a detailed descriptin f hw t install and set up cmmunicatins between the SlarEdge devices and the SlarEdge mnitring server, refer t the specific SlarEdge device installatin manual. This dcument describes each cmmunicatin scenari, lists the required equipment and prvides the cnfiguratin sequence required fr each scenari after the physical cnnectin is dne. Cmmunicatin Types and Functinality The fllwing describes the varius types f cmmunicatin ptins supprted by SlarEdge devices and their functinality. Ethernet (Built-in): Used fr a LAN cnnectin. Enables cmmunicatin t the SlarEdge mnitring server. RS485-X (Built-in; X can be 1, 2): The RS485-X prt supprts the fllwing functinality: Cnnecting multiple SlarEdge devices thrugh the same bus in a master/slave cnfiguratin. Cnnecting t a third-party lgger using the SunSpec prtcl. Cnnecting t a SlarEdge electricity meter. RS485 Expansin Kit (Optinal): The RS485 Expansin Kit prvides an additinal RS485 prt (RS485-E) fr the inverter fr enhanced cmmunicatins. The kit cntains a mdule which is installed n the cmmunicatin bard and has a 3-pin RS485 terminal blck. Wireless Cmmunicatin ZigBee Kit (Optinal): Enables wireless cnnectin f ne r several devices t a ZigBee gateway, fr wireless cmmunicatin t the SlarEdge mnitring server. Wi-Fi (Optinal): Enables wireless cnnectin f ne r several devices fr wireless cmmunicatin t the SlarEdge mnitring server. Cellular Cnnectivity (Optinal): Enables cellular cnnectin f ne r several devices fr wireless cmmunicatin t the SlarEdge mnitring server. Hme Energy Management (Device Cntrl) ZigBee card (Optinal): Enables wireless cnnectin f ne r several devices t Hme Energy Management prducts, which autmatically divert PV energy t hme appliances (hme autmatin). Hme Energy Management is nt cvered in this dcument. Refer t the relevant prduct installatin guides. Cmmunicatin Cnnectrs Single Phase Inverters/Three Phase Inverters/SMI The inverter and SMI have tw cmmunicatin glands which are used fr cnnectin f the varius cmmunicatin ptins. Each gland has three penings. The table belw describes the functinality f each pening. Unused penings shuld remain sealed. The table belw describes the functinality f each gland pening. Unused penings shuld remain sealed. Required Equipment CAT5 r CAT6 Ethernet cable with RJ45 cnnectrs. Max distance: 100 meters / 300 ft. (per device cnnectin) Ethernet ruter SlarEdge Device LAN Cnfiguratin The SlarEdge devices are precnfigured t use the LAN prt by default, thus btaining the IP settings autmatically frm a DHCP server. Only the master is physically cnnected t the internet thrugh the Ethernet prt. Required Equipment CAT5 r CAT6 Ethernet cable with RJ45 cnnectrs. Max distance: 100 meters / 300 ft. Fr the slave devices: The SlarEdge devices are precnfigured t use the RS485-1 prt by default. Chapter 3: RS485 Expansin Kit Chapter 3: RS485 Expansin Kit Multiple devices with a secnd RS485 prt cnnectin interface with Mdbus devices Descriptin The RS485 Expansin Kit prvides an additinal RS485 prt (called RS485-E) fr the inverter and/r the Cntrl and Cmmunicatin Gateway (CCG). The kit cntains a mdule which is installed n the inverter r CCG cmmunicatin bard and has a 3-pin RS485 terminal blck. The RS485 mdule allws cnnecting the inverter directly t 3rd party mnitring systems (Mdbus master) r varius Mdbus slave devices such as batteries and meters, in additin t ther inverters. This additinal RS485 prt als enables multiple parallel (i.e nested) RS485 buses, valuable when setting up a cmmunicatin netwrk fr large sites. T use the RS485 expansin kit, the SlarEdge device CPU versin must be 3.1600 r higher. Chapter 3: RS485 Expansin Kit Multiple Inverters with RS485-E cnnectins Descriptin SlarEdge prtcl cnfiguratin is supprted n all RS485 buses simultaneusly. The inverter can be: Master n ne bus and slave n the ther Master n bth buses(dual master) Slave n bth buses The RS485 Expansin Kit enables the cnnectin f up t 16 RS485 buses with up t 32 devices each in a daisy chain cnfiguratin fr cmmunicatins in cmmercial installatins. Using this ptin allwes t cnnect nly the master inverter t the mnitring platfrm. T use the RS485 expansin kit, the SlarEdge device CPU versin must be 3.1600 r higher. Chapter 4: ZigBee Wireless Cnnectin Optins Chapter 4: ZigBee Wireless Cnnectin Optins ZigBee is a prtcl fr data transfer in wireless netwrks. Wireless cnnectivity allws simplifying the installatin as n cabling is required. ZigBee cards cnnected inside the SlarEdge devices cmmunicate wirelessly with a SlarEdge Hme Gateway fr wireless cnnectivity between ne r mre devices and an internet ruter. Single Device, ZigBee Cnnectin Descriptin Figure 11: Single device, ZigBee server cnnectin (and extending the ZigBee range using a repeater) This cnfiguratin enables cnnecting a single device in a master/slave cnfiguratin. In this cnfiguratin, the SlarEdge Hme Gateway is the master device. The hme gateway is prvided with ne slave mdule that is installed inside the SlarEdge device.
