New Terminology Backstage Screen Clipping The Ribbon OneNote is like a three ring binder. You can have multiple notebooks. Each notebook can contain sections and each section, pages. You can move notebooks, sections and pages around to organize it the way you want. You can add screen clips, type directly onto the page, add notes, share, and even install it as a virtual printer (allows you to select the printer and print to OneNote). OneNote can be shared as a PDF or webpage, or an entire notebook. You can see that OneNote is looks different from every other application. The ribbon is still there but OneNote hides it as a default to give you more working area. You can get it back by clicking the chevron arrow next to the help question mark at the right top of your screen. When you add to Word, it moves everything around the page. OneNote creates a separate container for each item (text, pictures, videos) and these containers, like text boxes, can be moved around anywhere you like without making crazy formatting things happen on your page.
Click to create new section File > New Create new notebook warning OneNote uses memory. If you have copied and pasted into OneNote, it is a good idea to restart your computer once in a while to keep crashes at a minimum. File Tab The backstage area is like all other Microsoft Office 2010 applications this is where you can save, print, and perform other file tasks. This is also where you go to create a new notebook click new > notebook
To send a notebook to someone click File > Send OneNote then gives you options to send the current notebook. Sections Sections look like notebook divider tabs across the top of your notebook. Click the star to the right of the tabs to create a new section. Right click on a tab to rename it. See screenshot for other options from the right click menu. You can drag tabs around so you can add tabs at any time and rearrange them just like a real binder. You can determine what color the tabs are.
Pages Click the drop down arrow at the top of the pages column on the right side of your screen. You can create a new page, either blank or from templates, or create a subpage. Insert Notice the Insert menu in OneNote has specific items that only pertain to OneNote. If you have a microphone and/or video camera, you can insert audio and video directly into OneNote. At the left side of the ribbon is a Screen Clipping Command. If you click screen clipping you will be taken to the last window you had open whether it is a document or a webpage. You will select the area of the page you wish to clip and OneNote will insert your selection into your page. (this would work great with cscope)
Draw OneNote lets you draw on your page using your mouse, or if you have a tablet you can utilize it to make notations by hand. OneNote can also try to recognize handwritten text and convert for you, and it can recognize text on an image. View You can present directly from within OneNote. If you want to hide the toolbar while you project your OneNote page on your whiteboard click the view tab and select full page view. You can customize OneNote and add frequently used commands to the quick access bar. Just right click on the command and select add to Quick Access Bar.
Printing Printing is a little different in OneNote. OneNote does not see page breaks and margins like Word does so here is the best way to make sure that what you want is what you get. To print a Single Page in OneNote OneNote calls the page tabs along the right side of the screen "pages" so if you actually want to print just a single OneNote Page of a section it's pretty easy. Just go to that page, then click File Print and make sure that "Current Selection" is selected as your print range. That'll print the current OneNote Page. This page may be larger than you think so here is a work around: First you need to print the current OneNote Page (or the entire section if you want) to Adobe Acrobat PDF (or XPS if you want) and then from within Adobe Acrobat select the specific page(s) and print only those paper pages to your printer. This will also allow you to see exactly how it will look in print.
