1 General Questions 1 General Questions 1.1 How long does it take to fully charge the battery? It takes about 3.5 hours to fully charge HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth with the provided charger. 1.2 Can I charge HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth using its USB port? Yes. HUAWEI MediaPad provides a standard 5 V/2 A charger. Its micro-usb port can be used for data transmission and charging. 1

2 1BStorage 2 Storage 2.1 How do I change the default storage location on HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth? Go to Settings> Storage > Default storage location. When prompted, select the desired location. 2

2 1BStorage Figure 2-1 2.2 What is the maximum capacity of the microsd card supported by HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth? HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth supports microsd cards that have up to 32 GB in capacity. You can obtain up to 16 GB of free cloud storage from Cloud+ Drive and expand it to 160 GB. This feature is available only on HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth sold in China. 2.3 Why is my HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth's storage different from what is advertised? The advertised storage is the internal storage, about 2.2 GB of which is used to store system files. You can use the remaining storage to store installed applications, downloaded files, and temporary data generated by applications. 3

2 1BStorage 2.4 How do I view the available storage space in my internal storage and microsd card? Go to Settings > Storage to view the storage details. Figure 2-2 2.5 Where are my installed applications? Installed applications, downloaded files, and temporary data generated by applications are saved to the default storage location. To set the default storage location, touch location and select SD card or Internal storage. Settings > Storage > Default storage 4

2 1BStorage 2.6 How do I access data on a microsd card or USB flash drive? Go to File Manager > SD card or USB to access their data. 2.7 Will all data be erased if I restore my HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth to its factory settings? No. Restoring your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth to its factory settings will erase your personal data, such as accounts, customized settings, installed applications, contacts, messages, email settings, browser history, and bookmarks, but files you saved, such as videos and images, will not be erased. To erase all data saved on your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth, select Erase internal storage before restoring your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth to its factory settings. Figure 2-3 5

3 2BPorts/Sensors 3 Ports/Sensors 3.1 Why does HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth restart after I install or remove a SIM card? The SIM card insertion or removal takes effect only after HUAWEI MediaPad restarts. HUAWEI MediaPad can detect the insertion and removal of a SIM card, and the SIM card will not be damaged. However, to prevent physically damaging the port, try to minimize inserting and removing SIM cards. 3.2 Can I install a microsim card on HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth? No, only standard SIM cards can be installed on HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth. The dimensions of a standard SIM card are 0.76 mm x 15 mm x 25 mm (0.03 in. x 0.59 in. x 0.98 in.). Do not attempt to install any other SIM cards as doing so could damage your device. 3.3 Does HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth support microsd card hot swapping? Yes, but to prevent damage to microsd cards or lost of data, avoid frequently inserting and removing them. 3.4 Can HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth function as a USB host? Can it work with an external USB flash drive, hard disk, or printer? HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth can function as a USB host and can connect to a USB flash drive, hard disk, mouse, or keyboard using a USB On-The-Go (OTG) cable. However, it cannot connect to a printer. 6

3 2BPorts/Sensors Some peripheral devices may require separate power supplies. 3.5 Can I connect a data card to HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth? No, this function is not yet available. 3.6 What does auto-rotate screen do? How do I enable or disable it? With the auto-rotate screen function enabled, HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth automatically changes its display orientation based on the way you hold it. When you are browsing a web page, viewing a photo, watching a video, writing a message, or playing a tilt-sensor based game, this function makes it easier to access everything. You can touch the status bar in the lower right corner and then the auto-rotate screen icon to enable or disable the function. Figure 3-1 7

4 3BAccessories 4 Accessories 4.1 What accessories are included with HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth? 4 3BAccessories Accessory Image In-car charger Screen protector microsd card USB OTG cable (Used to connect to peripherals) 4.2 What headsets are compatible with HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth? HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth incorporates a 3.5 mm headset jack, which is compatible with TRRS headsets with left and right audio outputs and microphone audio input, namely non-omtp headsets. Most non-omtp headsets, such as Apple, Nokia, Motorola Xoom, Blackberry, and HTC (T8686) headsets, are compatible with HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth. It is recommended that you use a Huawei headset (optional and available separately) to ensure the audio quality of music and phone calls. 4.3 What Bluetooth headsets are compatible with HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth? HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth is Bluetooth v3.0 certified and meets Bluetooth compatibility specifications. Headsets that have passed the Bluetooth SIG certification tests are recommended. 10

4 3BAccessories You can also go to https://www.bluetooth.org/tpg/listings.cfm to check whether the headset you purchased has passed the SIG certification. Headsets such as i.tech, Jabra, Plantronics, Nokia, and Motorola are recommended. 11

5 4BConnection to a Computer 5 Connection to a Computer 5.1 How do I transfer files between HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth and a PC? You can use any of the following connection modes to transfer files between your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth with a PC: Media device (MTP), Camera (PTP), HiSuite, and USB storage. (MTP stands for Media Transfer Protocol, and PTP stands for Picture Transfer Protocol.) When you connect HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth to a PC using a USB cable for the first time and you are prompted to install a driver, follow the onscreen instructions to install it. Then select any of the following connection modes under Settings > Storage > > USB computer connection: Media device (MTP): In this mode, you can access files on HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth (including data in the internal storage and microsd card) by opening your PC's new disk drive and transfer files between HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth and the PC. You can also open media files on HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth with Windows Media Player. If your PC runs Windows XP or an earlier version, you must first install Windows Media Player 11 to use Media device (MTP) mode. Camera (PTP): In this mode, you can access photos saved to the internal storage of HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth by opening your PC's new disk drive and transfer those photos between HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth and the PC. HiSuite: In this mode, your PC starts HiSuite, with which you can transfer files between HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth and the PC and install applications on HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth. USB storage: In this mode, you can access files in the microsd card of HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth by opening your PC's new disk drive and transfer those files between HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth and the PC. 12

5 4BConnection to a Computer 5.2 How do I transfer files between HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth and a Mac? Perform the following steps: Step 1 Go to http://www.android.com/filetransfer/ or a third-party website to download and install Android File Transfer. Step 2 Use a USB cable to connect HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth to the Mac. Step 3 Start Android File Transfer. Transfer files between HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth and the Mac. 5.3 What if the MTP drive installation fails after I connect HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth to a PC? The MTP driver must be used in conjunction with Windows Media Player 11 or later. If Windows Media Player 11 or later is not installed on the PC, install it before installing the MTP driver. Then perform the following steps: Step 1 Use a USB cable to connect HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth to the PC. Step 2 When prompted on HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth, touch HiSuite. Step 3 Open the new disk drive and double-click autorun.exe. 5.4 What if no new disk drive is displayed for HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth after I connect it to a PC? Try either of the following: Check that you have installed Windows Media Player 11 or later on your PC. On the HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth, go to Settings > Developer options and select USB debugging. On the PC, follow the onscreen instructions to install the USB driver. If the issue persists and you wish to synchronize media files only, use Windows Media Player 11 or later. 13

6 5BCalls/Messaging 6 Calls/Messaging 6.1 Can I make phone calls using HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth? Yes if you are using the 3G version, but no if you are using the Wi-Fi version. 6.2 Can I make video calls using HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth? Yes. You can download and install third-party applications such as Google Talk and Skype to make video calls. 6.3 Can I send or receive text and multimedia messages using HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth? 7 6BEmail 7 Email 7.1 How do I configure more than one email account on HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth? If you have not configured any email accounts, touch Email, select Exchange or Others, and follow the onscreen instructions. The Android 4.1 browser is the default browser. You can download and install third-party browsers. 8.2 Can I open more than one web page in the browser? Yes. The browsers of HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth display web pages in tabs and allow you to switch between tabs. 8.3 Can I view web pages anonymously? Yes. The browsers of HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth allow you to view web pages anonymously by opening an incognito tab. To do so, go to Browser > > New incognito tab. 22

To use files in other formats, download corresponding third-party applications. The file is corrupted. Re-obtain the file from its source and try again. The file is copyright-protected. Obtain access rights and try again. The battery level is low. Connect your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth to a charger and try again. Your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth does not have sufficient storage. Touch Settings. Under DEVICE, touch Storage to view the storage details. If your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth does not have sufficient storage, delete unwanted files to free up some storage. Place the lyrics file and the song under the same directory and make sure their names are the same. When you play the song using the native music player, the lyrics are displayed. This may be because your browser does not support Adobe Flash Player, or the flash player you have installed does not support the format of the video clip. This issue occurs because the online video player does not support the display resolution of HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth, which is 1024 x 600 pixels. To check the save path of recordings, perform the following steps: Step 1 Go to Sound Recorder > to access the recording list. Step 2 Touch to the right of the desired recording. Make sure your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth is in a place with good reception, and you have entered the correct casings for the password. 10 9BWireless Connection 10.4 What can I do if my HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth is connected to a Wi-Fi network but I am unable to open web pages? This may because your router is not functioning correctly. Check whether other devices connected to the router can access the Internet. 10.5 Why does the Wi-Fi connection sometimes become unavailable when I send files via Bluetooth? The Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functions use the same antenna. When the Bluetooth occupancy is high, the Wi-Fi performance is degraded or the Wi-Fi connection may be disconnected. 10.6 Why is the power consumption high with Wi-Fi turned on even when no networks are found? By default, the Wi-Fi network search strategy on HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth is "Never Sleep." The Wi-Fi chip keeps working even when there are no available networks, resulting in high power consumption. If you turn off the display, the Wi-Fi chip stops searching and automatically powers off after about 10 minutes. To save battery life, turn Wi-Fi off when there are no networks available. 38

Possible causes are as follows: Your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth is not visible to other Bluetooth devices. Solution: When Bluetooth is turned on, go to Settings > Bluetooth to access the Bluetooth settings screen. Touch the name of your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth to make it visible to other Bluetooth devices. 39

Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) enables you to share multimedia files, such as photos, videos, and audio, between devices in the same Wi-Fi network. Before using the DLNA function, ensure that your device and other DLNA devices have connected to the same Wi-Fi network and DLNA is enabled on all devices. On the home screen, touch DLNA to access the DLNA screen. You can then share pictures, videos, and audio files with other DLNA devices, as well as view and download the multimedia files shared by other DLNA devices. 43

13 12BApplications 13 Applications 13.1 How do I download a third-party application? To obtain applications, you can: Download applications from online application stores, such as Google Play Store. Connect HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth to a computer and copy downloaded applications from the computer. 13.2 Can I uninstall my operator-customized or other preinstalled applications? HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youthcannot be uninstalled. Whether operator-customized applications can be uninstalled depends on your operator. To uninstall an application, touch Settings > Manage apps. Then select the application you wish to uninstall, touch Uninstall, and follow the onscreen instructions. If the Uninstall button is unavailable for an application, the application cannot be uninstalled. 51

On the displayed screen, touch Online update to check for updates. Install the available updates by following the onscreen instructions. 14.2 Can I update HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth using a microsd card? If yes, how? Yes. Copy the dload folder in the update package to the root directory of the microsd card. Then go to Settings > About tablet > System updates (SD card). HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth will detect the update package on the microsd card. The update progress and result are shown on the display. 54

No. Updating HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth will erase your personal data, such as accounts, custom settings, installed applications, contacts, messages, email settings, browser history, and bookmarks, but files you saved, such as videos and images, will not be erased. 14.4 How will I be informed of the system updates? Touch Settings > About tablet > System Update > > Settings and select Auto-Notify. When an update is available, you will be prompted to choose whether to update the system. When you receive your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth, its battery may be depleted. Charge it for a while before attempting to power it on. 15.4 What if the charging icon does not appear when I charge HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth with it powered off? The charging icon may not be displayed when the battery level is extremely low. Charge HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth for ten minutes and check whether the charging icon is displayed. When HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth is powered on and connected to a PC, the charging icon does not appear. 15.5 What if it takes a long time to charge my HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth? Use the provided charger and limit activity on your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Vogue when charging. 15.6 What can I do if my HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth's touchscreen responds erratically or slowly after long periods of use? If applications that have not passed the Google compatibility test are installed on your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth, the system may be unstable or even crash. It is recommended that you only download applications from Play Store or Huawei HiSpace, because those applications have passed the compatibility test. 15.8 What if my HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth crashes? Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds to power off HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth. Then press the power button to power it back on.. 15.9 Why does it take a long time to obtain my HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth's location information? While obtaining the location of your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth: Make sure you have good Wi-Fi reception. Place HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth in an open area, free from obstructions such as walls. 15.10 How do I save battery power? Turn off the screen when your HUAWEI MediaPad 7 Youth is not in use. Set the screen timeout period to a small value. Lower the screen brightness. Use a headset instead of the speaker. Turn off Bluetooth when you do not need to use it.
