Mobile-911 Server - Mandatory Upgrade For Enterprise Edition Users September 3 rd, 2014 ***** ACTION REQUIRED ***** For questions or assistance please contact WIN-911 Support at 512-326-1011 x3 or toll-free at 800-331-8740 x3. Email WIN-911 Support at support@win911.com. Overview: On September 3 rd, 2014 WIN-911 Software released a new Mobile-911 app for Android. The new Mobile-911 app requires the current Mobile-911 Server to be upgraded and will require the latest release of WIN-911 Enterprise Edition. Failure to update all three components at the same time can result in the loss of push notifications to your Android devices. ios and Blackberry devices will not be affected. Release Information: 1. Mobile-911 v2.1.0 for Android (release date: 9/3/14) Improve the reliability of Google s push service. Multi-language support. 2. Mobile-911 Server v2.4 (release date: 9/2/14) Uses the latest Google Push Notification technology (GCM), improving reliability and uptime for all Android users. Eliminates the need for ios users to have to update their Apple Push Notification certificates each year. Android Users ***URGENT***: Android users MUST be prepared for the upgrade taking place on September 3 rd so that push notifications will not be lost. Android users will have the option to upgrade on September 3 rd or wait until a later date, sometime before September 30 th 2014, to perform the upgrade. Failure to update the Android app and Mobile-911 Server by September 30 th, will run the risk of losing push notifications. Also, support will be dropped for Mobile-911 v2.0.3 for Android and Mobile-911 Server v2.03 on September 30 th. 09-04-2014 Rev: 5 pg. 1

Option 1 walks the user through the full upgrade process. At most, the Mobile-911 apps, Mobile-911 Server and WIN-911 will need to be upgraded. Option 2 explains how to postpone the upgrade to a later date in September. If the steps in Option 2 below were not performed before September 3 rd, Option 1 must be performed to prevent the loss of push notifications. ios Users: ios users will have until December 31 st, 2014 to upgrade the Mobile-911 Server. Failure to update the Mobile-911 Server by December 31 st, will run the risk of losing push notifications. Also, support will be dropped for Mobile-911 Server v2.03 with ios apps after December 31 st. Note: Mobile-911 Server 2.4 will require WIN-911 Enterprise Edition v1.14.5 or newer. Option 1: Upgrading Mobile-911 for Android, Mobile-911 Server and WIN-911 Preparation: These steps MUST be completed before performing the upgrade procedure. Do not continue on to the upgrade until you have ALL the information required below. 1. WIN-911 Enterprise Edition v.1.14.5 is required. Download it here: http://www.win911.com/support/downloads/ WIN911.com Downloads and Manuals Fill out the form and select WIN-911 Enterprise Edition 1.14.5. 2. Mobile-911 v.2.4 is required. Download it here: http://www.win911.com/support/downloads/ WIN911.com Downloads and Manuals Fill out the form and select Mobile-911 v2.4 Server. 3. If WIN-911 EE and Mobile-911 are installed on separate machines, you MUST obtain the Username and Password configured for the Mobile-911 Server s service. The service is named: a. Mobile-911 Server V2.03 (located on the Mobile-911 machine) Select the service through Microsoft Windows Service Manager and go to its Properties. Under the Log On tab you will see the Username and Password used for that service. This Username and Password will have to be reconfigured for the Mobile-911 Server service after upgrade is complete. 09-04-2014 Rev: 5 pg. 2

4. Mobile-911 Server v2.4 uses a different TCP Port to connect to the Android, Apple, and BlackBerry Push Servers. If ports were needed to be opened on the network or firewall in order for Mobile-911 Server v2.03 to connect to the Push Servers, the new port will also need to be opened. Make sure you have access to those settings or have your IT administrator make the change. Mobile-911 Server v2.4 uses TCP Port 11171 to connect to all three Push Servers, instead of TCP Port 2195 and 443. TCP ports 2195 and 443 are no longer used. TCP Port 11171 must be opened for both incoming and outgoing communication. The push proxy server addresses are pps1.win911.com & pps2.win911.com. Both are servers are used. Upgrade Procedures: It is very important that the Mobile-911 Server and the Mobile-911 Android app are updated at the same time. If either one is updated without the other, you can risk missing alarm notifications. The current version of WIN-911 EE (1.14.5) and the current ios and BlackBerry apps will work with the new Mobile-911 Server v.2.4. Compatible Versions: WIN-911 Enterprise Edition Version 1.14.5 (current) Mobile-911 Version 2.4 *NEW* Mobile-911 v2.1.0 for Android *NEW* Mobile-911 v2.1.0 for ios (current) Mobile-911 v2.0 for BlackBerry (current) 1. Upgrade WIN-911 Enterprise Edition to version 1.14.5. Your Software Maintenance and Support code may be required. Run the install. The upgrade should happen automatically. 2. Upgrade Mobile-911 Server to version 2.4. Run the install. The upgrade should happen automatically. 3. If WIN-911 EE and Mobile-911 Server are installed on separate machines, open Windows Services on the Mobile-911 Server machine and re-enter the required Username and Password for the Mobile-911 Server V2.4 service. 4. Run WIN-911 EE and Mobile-911 V2.4 to test the upgrades were successful. You do not need to install the latest Android app, to test whether WIN-911 and Mobile-911 Server are communicating. Open the current Mobile-911 app on any device and make sure it connects using the Health tab. If you have Healthy connection for both WIN-911 and Mobile-911 Server, the upgrade was successful. Next, select the Alarms tab. Trigger an alarm to make sure the alarm is delivered to the Mobile-911 app. Note: Push notifications will not work on your Android device until you update the app to v2.1.0. 09-04-2014 Rev: 5 pg. 3

(Mobile-911 Server 2.4 Setup Instructions - only for reference, no configuration should be required): http://www.win911.com/knowledgebase/mobile-911-server-2-4-win-911-enterprisesetup/ 5. Once the upgrade has been confirmed, have ALL Android users update their Mobile-911 app to version 2.1.0, if it had not already done so through Auto Update. Once the app is installed, navigate to 'Settings', tap 'Primary Server', tap the 'Test Connections', then click 'Save'. You device should now be registered to Google's new GCM service. 6. Confirm push notifications are working by triggering an alarm when the Mobile-911 app is closed. You should hear your typical push notifications tone. 7. The upgrade is now complete! Option 2: Postponing the Required Upgrade ALL configured Android users MUST disable Auto-Update Apps on their device prior to September 3 rd, 2014 in order to postpone the upgrade steps required in Option 1. Failure to disable auto updates will run the risk of your device auto-updating the Mobile-911 app when it is released on September 3 rd. The new Mobile-911 app will not work with the current Mobile-911 Server v2.03. Notes: Disabling auto-updates will disable updates for all apps on the device. By not updating the Mobile-911 app, the existing setup (Mobile-911 Server v2.03 and Mobile-911 for Android v2.0.3) will continue to work until the end of September. When you are ready to upgrade, follow the steps in Option 1. Disabling Auto-Update Apps in the Google Play Store on your Android Device: 1. Open the Play Store app 2. Go to Settings 3. Go to Auto-update apps 4. Select Do not auto-update apps FAQ & Troubleshooting 1. Push Notifications stopped working for all devices (Android, ios, and BlackBerry) after I upgraded Mobile-911 Server 2.4. (more common in 32-bit operating system) A: Install the CA Certificate (to enable the Mobile-911 server to authenticate the PPS server certificate). 1. Run the MMC for Certificates: Start menu, type MMC, click Enter. 09-04-2014 Rev: 5 pg. 4

2. File Add/Remove Snap-in.. 3. Add Certificates, select Computer account. Make sure Local Computer is selected before clicking Finish. Click, OK. 4. Select Certificates, then Trusted Root Certificate Authorities. From the menu select All Tasks Import 5. Browse to the location of the CA certificate (WIN911PPSCA.cer). Default location C:\\Program Files(x86)\Specter Instruments or WIN-911 V7\Mobile-911 Server. Accept the defaults and exit the wizard 6. Pushes should now work. For questions or assistance please contact WIN-911 Support at 512-326-1011 x3 or toll-free at 800-331-8740 x3. Email WIN-911 Support at support@win911.com. 09-04-2014 Rev: 5 pg. 5
