4 GETTING STARTED This guide lists the steps required to prepare staff members ipod Touch, ipad, or iphone devices to operate InSites Connect. You must have Internet access to complete the setup steps described in this guide. Version Compatibility Supported device OS versions: ios 6.1.6, ios 7, ios 8 InSites Platform versions: 3.2, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 Installing the InSites Connect app 1. Acquire an Apple ID if you do not already have one: 2. On the Apple device you are configuring, launch the App Store. App Store icon 3. Search for insites connect. 5 4. When the InSites Connect app is displayed, tap it to begin the download process. The InSites Connect Install window will appear, as shown below. 5. Tap Install to download InSites Connect. Note: You may be asked to enter a password for the device. Enter the Apple ID for this device and select OK. InSites Connect Version Administration Guide Page 3
6 APP CONFIGURATION After installing InSites Connect on the device, you will need to configure the application through the ios Settings menu. 1. Find and open Settings. 2. Tap InSites to launch the InSites Connect application settings. 3. Configure the fields on this screen. Note: If you are unsure of how to configure any of these fields, please contact Intelligent InSites Customer Support at a. Version: The version of the app installed on this device. This value cannot be edited. b. InSites Server: The URL or IP address of the InSites service your organization uses. This should include the portion ( if using SSL) of the URL. This is the same URL or IP address you would enter in the browser on workstations or laptops to enable staff members to access the InSites web interface. Examples: c. Notification Server: The URL or IP address of the push notification provider used to send push notifications to the device. This should include the portion ( if using SSL) of the URL. If this field is not configured properly, users will not InSites Connect Version Administration Guide Page 4
7 be able to receive alerts, tasks, or messages when InSites Connect is not running in the foreground. Examples: d. Notification Server Port: The port number used to connect to the push notification provider via HTTP. If this field is not configured properly, users will not be able to receive alerts, tasks, or messages when InSites Connect is not running in the foreground. e. Care Type: Tap either Sr. Care or Acute to indicate whether your organization is a senior care facility or an acute care facility. Your selection will determine whether Patient or Resident is used to describe the individuals you serve. f. Refresh Intervals: Adjust how frequently alert, task, and message lists are refreshed. Note: Refresh intervals can significantly impact mobile device battery usage. You may want to select short refresh intervals only for critical updates, such as alerts, and longer intervals for tasks and messages. InSites Connect Version Administration Guide Page 5
8 CONFIGURING PUSH NOTIFICATIONS InSites Connect users can receive alert, message, and task notifications while the app is running in the background via ios push notifications. Push notifications are an ios feature that allows a service to send notifications to devices rather than apps having to periodically poll the service. Device Configuration 1. First, follow the steps in the App Configuration section of this guide. 2. Open the device Settings. 3. Make sure the Do Not Disturb setting is set to OFF. In ios 8, make sure both the Manual and Scheduled settings are OFF. 4. Tap Sounds. 5. Make sure the Ringer and Alerts volume is high enough to hear notification sounds. 6. Go back to the main Settings menu, and tap Notifications. 7. Scroll down, and tap InSites. 8. Choose one of the available alert styles: Banner, Alert, or None. 9. Turn Sounds ON to play an audible sound when a notification is received. 10. Set View in Lock Screen to ON to show new notifications while on the lock screen. Notification sounds will still play even if this setting is OFF. InSites Connect Version Administration Guide Page 6
9 Network Configuration To use push notifications: The Push Notification Provider must be installed on the InSites Connector server. The enterprise firewall rules must allow outbound traffic over TCP ports 2195, 2196, and 5223 to Apple s IP address block: 17.x.x.x The InSites Connector server firewall rules must allow inbound TCP traffic over port InSites Connect Version Administration Guide Page 7
10 LAUNCHING THE APPLICATION After configuring the application settings, users can run InSites Connect from the home screen, by tapping the InSites icon. See the InSites Connect User Guide for more information about using the application itself. Tap to launch InSites Connect. InSites Connect Version Administration Guide Page 8
11 TROUBLESHOOTING Unable to clear alerts because the Clear button is disabled Users will be unable to clear alerts from the app if their security roles do not allow it. To allow staff to clear alerts from a mobile device: 1. Open the InSites web interface. 2. Navigate to Administration > Staff > Security Roles, and select the staff person s security role. 3. Make sure the Manual Alarm Shut Off authorization is set to From PDA: Anywhere. Staff get logged out of functional roles unexpectedly 1. Each functional role can only be assumed by at most one staff person at a time. If two staff are allowed to assume the same functional role, one staff person can take the role that is already assigned to a different staff person, and the original assignee will no longer assume that role. 2. It is possible that the InSites server is configured to clear staff and functional role associations based on a session timeout. This is more likely to happen when the InSites Connect app is running in the background rather than the foreground. Contact an InSites Support agent to adjust the session timeout. Unable to schedule certain tasks 1. The tasks that each staff is allowed to create depends on the functional roles they currently assume. Make sure the user is signed into the correct functional role. 2. The InSItes Connect app is only able to create General tasks. Work Order tasks and Encounter Care tasks cannot be scheduled through the app. The device is not receiving push notifications 1. Sign out of the InSites Connect app, then sign back in. When a user logs in, the app attempts to contact the push notification service running on the InSites Connector server. If this communication fails, the following error message appears: 2. In the app settings, verify the Notification Server setting is a URL corresponding to the InSites Connector server. InSites Connect Version Administration Guide Page 9
12 3. Verify the device is configured according to the steps in the Configuring Push Notifications section of this guide. 4. Make sure enterprise firewall rules allow outbound traffic over TCP ports 2195, 2196, and 5223 to Apple s IP address block: 17.x.x.x 5. Make sure the InSites Connector server firewall rules allow inbound TCP traffic over port Sign In Errors The InSites Server app setting has not been configured on this device. See the App Configuration section of this guide. The InSites server was found, but the user name and/or password were invalid. InSites Connect Version Administration Guide Page 10
13 1. Make sure the device is connected to the local WiFi network. 2. Make sure the InSites Platform server is online. 3. Try using Safari on the ios device to navigate to the URL configured in the InSites Server app setting. If the site does not load, it is possible that the InSites Server setting is not correct. 1. Verify the InSites Server setting points to the InSites Platform server URL. If the server is configured to use SSL, be sure the InSites Server setting includes rather than 2. If using SSL, verify the SSL certificate on the InSites server is not expired. 4. Verify the URL in the InSites Server app setting matches the URL of the SSL certificate on the InSites server. If the SSL certificate is issued to *.demo.insitescloud.com, then the app must be configured to connect using the server hostname instead of the IP address.
