VPN Installation Quick Setup Guide For PCs running This document will help guide you through the process of installing the NJ TRANSIT VPN software on your Microsoft Windows 7 personal computer. If at any time you encounter a problem, please call the Help Desk at 973-491-HELP (4357) and a technician will be able to assist you. If you are having issues with NJ TRANSIT owned equipment, please call the Help Desk and you will be routed to the best person that can help. Page 2 VPN Installation Quick Setup Guide Step 1 Your PC and Internet Connection The first step for installing and ultimately using VPN is to log into your PC and ensure Internet connectivity. The quickest test is to open your web browser and navigate to any web page, for example www.google.com If your test is not successful, you may have Internet connectivity issues which must be resolved before we continue. Figure 3 If you are connected to the Internet, navigate to: cpclient.njtransit.com Enter your network ID and current password for example CISSQQQ Click Figure 2 Step 2 Download the VPN Client Click or tap the Windows 7 icon. At the top of the page, click Download VPN Software and, if prompted by your browser, run the downloaded file. For PCs running Microsoft Windows 7 Page 3 Destination Folder User Account Control Prompt Leave the default installation folder and click Install Depending on your PC s configuration, you may see a prompt screen similar to this one. Click Continue to finish the installation. If you are prompted for a password, enter the username and password of an account with administrative privilege on the PC. After a progress window, you will see a screen similar to this. Congratulations! The installation has completed successfully. Click Finish to exit the wizard Step 3 Logging into VPN At this point, we have successfully installed the VPN client on your PC and are now ready to connect. In your taskbar, defaulted to the bottom right of the screen, you will see a yellow lock icon, if not, click the up arrow to display all running applications. or Continued
Page 4 VPN Installation Quick Setup Guide Right mouse click on the Check Point icon (yellow lock) and select Connect Alternatively, you can click Start >All Programs> Check Point A screen similar to this will appear. You will need to enter your: Username PIN Tokencode Your username is your NJTRANSIT e-mail address without the @njtransit.com For example, if your e-mail address is pgriffin@njtransit.com pgriffin will be your username. If your e-mail address is pgriffin-smith@njtransit.com your username will be pgriffin-smith. Your PIN is the unique personal identification number that was setup during your initial VPN creation. It is unique to your account. If you do not remember your PIN, please contact the Help Desk for assistance. Figure 1 Your tokencode is the current 6 digit code that is displayed on your RSA token. Please take note of the solid horizontal bars on the screen that signify time to expiration. Each bar represents 10 seconds, after 60 seconds the code will expire and refresh. Promptly enter your Username, PIN, Tokencode and click Connect. If your credentials have been properly entered, you will see a balloon pop-up stating that the connection has succeeded.
For PCs running Microsoft Windows 7 Page 5 Step 4 Connecting to your NJT PC At this point we are ready to connect to your NJT work PC. We will need to first launch the Remote Desktop Connection application from your PC. Click on: Start> All Programs> Accessories Remote Desktop Connection A screen similar to this will appear. In the Remote Desktop Connection application, you will need to enter the IP address of your PC. This is a number, usually in the format of 10.X.X.X. If you do not have your IP address, please contact the Help Desk. Enter your IP and click Connect. You will be prompted for your network ID and password. This is your not your Check Point username. Enter your network ID followed by @njt.gov Example: CISSQQQ@njt.gov Enter your current network password and click OK. Leave the Remember my credentials box unchecked. Continued
After your credentials are accepted, you may receive a message stating that the identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. It is safe to ignore this warning. Check the option Don t ask me again for connections to this computer and click Yes to continue. Click OK at the legal message. Congratulations! You have successfully connected to your NJT desktop. Step 4 Alternative If you cannot connect to your NJT PC, because you do not know your IP address or because the PC is powered off, you can connect to a general use computer. In the Remote Desktop Connection application, enter NJTVPN for the computer name and follow the steps as previously outlined. You have successfully installed VPN on to your PC and can now connect to your PC or the general use computer. To reconnect, start from Step 3 of this guide.
