Important This is pre-release information for eportfolio 4.3. The functionality, screens, and configuration of features in this guide are subject to change before release. New features in eportfolio 4.3 Reflections in course content You can now allow students to add reflections to their eportfolio from course content. This encourages students to independently analyze and think about their course lessons more frequently. Instructors have the option to enable the Reflect in eportfolio button, allowing students to add a reflection from within the topic in Content. Add a reflection from the Content tool. eportfolio automatically adds three separate tags to a reflection: the course code, module name, and the topic name. This allows students to easily search for all reflections created in the course using this information. Students need to have permission to use tags for this functionality to work. If students do not have permission to create tags, then the tags need to be pre-populated in the system. 2013 by Desire2Learn Incorporated. 2
Tags are automatically added to reflections. Submit reflections to Dropbox You can now submit reflections to Dropbox for assessment. Instructors can view the reflection submission in Dropbox. Once students receive feedback and their evaluations, they can add their original files with feedback as an artifact into their eportfolio from Learning Environment. 2013 by Desire2Learn Incorporated. 3

Form templates and form responses The Forms tool in Learning Environment was improved for better usability. New terminology is part of the workflow improvement. Form templates for users can be created at the organization, department, or course level. Add form templates directly from a module within Content. eportfolio now provides several new features and updates to improve the usability of the Forms tool, including: The Edit Form Template button enables you to edit the form template in a new tab. Buttons to help navigate between editing the form template or form response. Completed form responses are saved in eportfolio and tagged with the course ID, module name, and topic name. Form activities can now be associated to learning objectives. Completion summary tracking is now based on the actual completion of the form. Tags are automatically added to form responses Additional presentation themes You now have additional presentation themes to choose from when personalizing presentation. The new themes were designed to reflect a more modern, clean, and minimalistic aesthetic. 2013 by Desire2Learn Incorporated. 6
Two examples of new presentation themes: Orchid and Titan Insert link to pages within a Presentation You can now customize how others view your presentations. Instead of solely using the navigation panel, you can integrate the URL of a particular page as a link into another presentation page to guide viewers through your presentation in whatever order you want. You can find the page link in the Page Properties dialog. Thumbnails for link artifacts in presentations When you add a link artifact to a presentation, a thumbnail for the webpage is displayed instead of a generic icon. Ignore and restore shared items from users You now have greater control over what is displayed in your Newsfeed, Explore page and Invites page. You can click Ignore Items from User from an item s context menu, to ignore all items shared by a user. You can manage the list of users whose items you have ignored from the Settings page. eportfolio 4.3 Features Guide eportfolio Mobile Application eportfolio Mobile Application Users are now able to document learning both inside and outside the classroom using the ios mobile application for eportfolio. This application allows you to complete all of the following actions using a mobile device: Take photos or record audio and add them as artifacts Add and tag reflections Share items with peers, mentors and instructors Comment on shared items and feedback provided to you View shared or existing items in your portfolio Receive notification of new activities Create link artifacts Note To use this application, your organization must be using Desire2Learn eportfolio 4.0.0 or higher. Users can also use the mobile application if they have a mydesire2learn account.
