Once you have visited the Wax Museum in Mexico City, you can do one of the following activities: A. Write a biography about a famous person you admire. Be sure to include biographical details and facts such as date and place of birth and death, family information, major events of life, lifetime accomplishments, and a final comment about how people feel about him / her, his/her impact on society or his/her historical significance. B. Write a short article about a famous person from the twentieth century that you admire. Write your article about the person, describing his / her personality as well as the reasons you admire him / her. Don t forget to write your final comments and feelings about the person you choose. Important aspects to evaluate: An interesting title that catches the reader s attention. 4 paragraphs (one for introduction, two for the main body and one for the conclusion) A writing technique to start & end your biography. 300 words as maximum. Tenses to use (If the person is dead, you can use past simple and passive voice in past tense in the whole biography; if the person is still alive, you can use present simple and present perfect in the final paragraph only. You must use prepositions of place and time properly. You can also use relative pronouns and any other grammar structure you need.) Check spelling, grammar and punctuation. Throughout its 14 thematic rooms, you will experience a tour within the history of Mexico, international politics, art, terror, cinema, sport and entertainment. It houses over 200 wax figures of many national and international famous people such as film stars, filmmakers, writers, politicians, kings and queens, singers, athletes, and bullfighters among other personalities INSTRUCTIONS: During your tour inside the Wax Museum, you will have to choose at least three famous people you admire, you like or you love in each of the following categories below. This will help you decide which personality to talk about in your writing composition (a biography or a small article). Write the names in the boxes. MERITORIOUS AUTONOMOUS UNIVERSITY OF PUEBLA LAZARO CARDENAS HIGH SCHOOL STUDY TRIP IN MEXICO CITY APRIL 4 TH, 2017 ACTIVITY # 2: AN EXCITING EXPLORATION TO RIPLEY S MUSEUM NAME: GROUP: GRADE: Cultural Note: Ripley s Believe It or Not Museum in Mexico City exhibits one of the largest collections of weird and unusual objects that came from places explored by the well-known American cartoonist and collector Robert L. Ripley. Here you can marvel at the tallest man in the world, the world s largest tire and the world s smallest photographic camera among other oddities. INSTRUCTIONS: Robert L. Ripley was a great explorer who traveled around the world and discovered many things. During your visit to Ripley s museum, find three artifacts or amazing attractions that interest you. Find out as much as you can about them. Make notes on this sheet of paper. With the information you gather, you will have to be able to write a triptych or make a promotional video. Be sure to take photos or videos of the artifacts or attractions you chose. Where is the museum located?. When was it opened?.. What does the museum look like?. How many exhibition halls does it have? What can you do & see there?. What is your 1 st chosen artifact or attraction?... Where does/did it come from?. What it is/was used for? Where was it found or created? What is/was it made of?. What does it look like?

As soon as you visit Ripley s Museum in Mexico City, start working in one of the following activities. A. Write a triptych about Ripley s Museum that includes information about the building by giving historical facts about it. Explain what you can see and do there. Describe in detail three artifacts or attractions you have chosen by giving an accurate picture of them. Your description can include information about size, weight, shape, pattern or decoration, color, origin, material and any other special feature. Include final comments, feelings, impressions and /or recommendations. Don t forget to write some biographical information about Robert L. Ripley, and add pictures to make it more attractive. The organization of the information is free. B. Make a promotional video burned onto a DVD about Ripley s Museum no longer than 10 minutes at most. Include the same information required in activity A. Persuade people to visit this incredible place and add pictures or segments of videos to make it more attractive. Important aspects to evaluate: An original General Title You should include a writing technique to start your first idea. Phrases or Questions that catch the reader s attention to introduce each topic. Themes to talk about: Who Ripley was (biographical facts and most important achievements) External description of the building, location and historical facts about it. What you can see and do there. A detailed description of three of the most impressive artifacts or attractions you found. (What do they look like? What are/were they used for? Where do/did they come from? What are/were they made of?) Final comments, feelings, impressions or recommendations of the place you visited. Use of present tenses: present simple, present perfect and passive voice in present tense. Use past tenses to give factual information. You can also use superlatives, relative pronouns (who, that, which) and descriptive vocabulary (e.g. exquisite, exclusive, etc.) to make your writing more interesting. When describing objects, you should use a variety of adjectives. Creativity (Include photos or segments of video of the artifacts or attractions you saw) Check spelling, grammar and punctuation.
