3. Release History Please refer to the release notes. 4. Creating the Driver Diskette or Folder To create the driver disk, follow these steps: 1. Locate the driver you want on the QLogic website (http://www.qlogic.com/support/drivers_software.asp). 2. From the Quick Links drop-down menu, select iscsi HBAs option, and then select the HBA for which you want to download drivers. 3. If prompted "Would you like to open the file or save it to your computer?" select Save. Specify a temporary location on the hard drive and download the driver. 4. Insert a blank diskette in the diskette drive A: if you are extracting to a diskette. 5. Run the self-extracting file you just downloaded specifying (or the folder where you want to locate the driver files) in the Unzip To Folder: field. 5. Installing the Driver This section is divided into the following three sections: 5.1. Initial OS Installation with the QLogic iscsi Adapter as Boot or as Add-On 5.2. Adding the QLogic iscsi Adapter to the Existing OS 5.3. Updating the Existing Driver NOTE: The QLogic iscsi Adapter is a multifunction device. When installed in a PNP system, the OS detects two functions for eeach adapter: Ethernet Controller and Network Controller. The Network Controller refers to the iscsi function. 5.1. Initial OS Installation with the QLogic iscsi Adapter as Boot or as Add-On NOTE: You must create a driver disk (see section 4) when installing the OS and the QLogic iscsi Adapter. You cannot install the QLogic iscsi Adapter driver directly from the QLogic CD. To install Windows with the QLogic iscsi Adapter driver when the QLogic iscsi Adapter is attached to a bootable device, follow these steps: 1. Start the Windows installation procedure using the Setup disks or CD. 2. If you are booting using the Windows installation CD, press F6 when the following message displays: Press F6 if you want to install a third party SCSI or RAID After loading all the standard devices, press S to Specify Additional Device. Go to step 5. 3. If you are booting from the Windows installation floppy disks, after the standard devices have been detected and configured, press S to Specify Additional Device. 4. Select Other and press ENTER. 5. Insert the QLogic driver disk created in section 4 and press ENTER. 6. Select the QLogic iscsi Adapter, then press ENTER. 7. Continue with standard installation procedure.
5.2. Adding the QLogic iscsi Adapter to the Existing OS To add the QLogic iscsi Adapter's driver to an existing Windows system, follow these steps: 1. Install the QLogic iscsi Adapter in the appropriate slot on your computer. 2. Restart or power up your computer, and log in as Administrator. 3. When your computer powers up, Windows detects the newly installed device, then displays the Found New Hardware Wizard with Ethernet Controller message. The Found New Hardware Wizard program starts installing the QLogic NULL driver for the QLogic iscsi Adapter. 4. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), then click Next. 5. Select the Search for the best driver in these locations option, and type or browse to the path to the QLogic driver directory. For example: 6. Insert the QLogic driver disk in an appropriate drive, then click Next. 7. When the Security Alert - Driver Installation dialog box appears, click Yes. 8. In the Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box, click Finish. Windows displays the Found New Hardware Wizard with Network Controller message. The Found New Hardware Wizard program starts installing the iscsi driver for the QLogic iscsi Adapter. 9. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), then click Next. 10. Select the Search for the best driver in these locations option, and type or browse to the path to the QLogic driver directory. For example: 11. Insert the QLogic driver disk in an appropriate drive, then click Next. 12. When the Hardware Installation - Windows Logo dialog box displays, click Continue Anyway. 13. Click Finish on the Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box. 5.3. Updating the Existing Driver If the QLogic iscsi Adapter's driver is already installed and you want to install an updated version of the driver, follow these steps: 1. Start the Device Manager from the Windows Start menu: a. Select Settings -> Control Panel. b. Double-click System applet. c. Select the Hardware tab. d. Click the Device Manager button. 2. Use the scroll bar to scroll down the list of hardware types and double-click the SCSI and RAID controller. 3. Select QLogic iscsi Adapter from the devices list and then click Properties. 4. Select the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver to start the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard, then click Next. 5. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), then click Next. 6. Select Don't search I will choose the driver to install, then click Next. 7. Insert the QLogic driver disk in an appropriate drive, then click Have Disk.
8. In the Install From Disk dialog box, type or browse the path to the QLogic driver directory in the Copy manufacturer's files from field. For example: 9. Click OK in the Install From Disk dialog box. 10. When the Hardware Update Wizard/Select a Device Driver dialog box appears, click Next. 11. When the Hardware Installation dialog box displays, select Continue Anyway. 12. Click Finish on the Hardware Update Wizard/Completing the Hardware Update Wizard. 6. Removing the Driver The driver does not need to be uninstalled to uninstall the QLogic iscsi Adapter device. Simply power down your computer and remove the adapter from your computer according to the manufacturer's instructions. NOTE: You do not have to use the Device Manager or the Hardware Wizard to uninstall the QLogic iscsi Adapter. After you have removed the QLogic iscsi Adapter and restarted your computer, Windows recognizes that it has been removed. 7. Limitations None 8. Additional Notes The driver must be run in conjunction with a currently supported version of the Microsoft iscsi service to be WHQL compliant. 9.
