Delivering Next Generation DCIM for a Mobile Workforce 1

About Optimum Path Optimum Path Inc. is a software company, headquartered in Florida, USA with locations in APAC and EMEA regions. We continue to provide a unique insight for our Data Center Infrastructure Management customers as they progress Next Generation Data Center activities. 2

DCIM Background Dynamic Cooling Standard DCIM Capability Core Platform Dashboard & Reporting Asset & Change Management IT Power Mgmt Many organizations have already invested effort in implementing DCIM into their Data Centers. Generally these activities were for the express purpose of delivering the standard functionality of Core DCIM. Monitoring & Data Aggregation Data Collection The scope of these activities generally related to basic monitoring of Power, Space & Cooling. 3

DCIM Background As these DCIM implementations matured and as operational resources gained confidence with the toolsets, the standard baseline of DCIM was set. Many DCIM implementations initially focused on delivering basic metrics such as PUE and have since evolved to leverage SS 564 reporting and additional enhanced functionality. 4

DCIM Background Data centers leveraging DCIM now have insight into both the historical and current state of their data center metrics. However many organizations are actively looking to expand this existing capability and gain next generation insight for their lines of business. 5

Capability Evolution Data Center Service Optimization Data Center Business Planning Data Center Service Based Costing Data Center Service Mapping Reporting Physical Asset Management Capacity Management Monitoring As the DCIM platform matures, we are seeing the capability move up the business value chain. Many Data Centers are evolving their DCIM operations and moving into Data Center Service Optimization. Many organizations are also looking at Predictive Analytics and Forward planning for their Data Centers. 6

Business Insight Data Center Service Optimization Data Center Business Planning Data Center Service Based Costing Data Center Service Mapping Reporting Physical Asset Management Capacity Management Monitoring Regardless of how the service is defined or what type of information is being categorized and reviewed, we are seeing a fundamental shift in the way that DCIM is being consumed. That, is we are seeing the desire for a DCIM capability to provide ondemand & relevant insight for a Mobile Workforce. 7

Mobile Workforce Changing Workforce, Changing Mindset - Whilst the demographics of the workforce will continue to shift to a Millennial base, we are seeing pervasive adoption and use of mobile technology across all spans of business. This shift is extending across all seniority lines of resourcing, from the executive level C-suite, to business line planners & the Data Center engineers. We are seeing increased domination of mobility technologies in areas such as Data Center Asset tracking, Monitoring, Commercial Reporting & even Data Center Device Control. 8

Mobile Workforce Technological Advances - Whilst mobile technology reached critical mass some time ago, the most contemporary generation of mobility devices are almost there in terms of full productivity and relevance. That is, the primary shift for consumption of the DCIM capability and management of the Data Center itself is moving away from a monolithic, operational only silo to an all mobile, access anywhere, anytime approach. This change in mindset is primary based in evolution of Persona & Consumption 9

Persona & Consumption It is effectively about the DCIM capability providing an easy to consume, on demand & relevant level of insight to the specific stakeholders interest. 10

Persona Based Access Whilst the individual stakeholders that manage and maintain a Data Center are well defined, the interactions and workflows between each of the stakeholders are constantly evolving. This level of collaboration and exchange of ideas between the stakeholders is what provides the competitive edge in the data center. The ability for DCIM to furnish each stakeholder with the relevant insight at the right time is the primary value in any DCIM capability. 11

Persona Based Access Executive Owner Data Center Sales Executive IT Manager Facilities Manager Customer As the DCIM capability grows in each Data Center, we are seeing a defined shift in the way the capabilities are being leveraged, particularly around collaboration between internal and external stakeholders. 12

Persona Based Access Executive Owner User Profile The Executive Owner of the Data Center is generally focused on the business and commercial aspects of the operation. The Executive Owner is deeply involved in long term planning and the macro view of the data center business. In this example the Executive owner may have insight into the Business Service Scorecard of the data center, and require long term projections for reaching existing capacity and recommendations for investment in new data center construction. Insight Needed Operating Expense Business Service Health Commercial Lifespan of Data Center 13

Persona Based Access Data Center Sales Executive User Profile The Data Center Sales Executive typically engages customers or managed service prospects in order to sell or lease raised floor space and power within the datacenter. Typically the Data Center sales executive needs real time views of floor space allocation and power availability correlated to relevant prices points and ability to showcase the data center via a mobile capability. Insight Needed Data Center 3D Map Floor Tile Sales reservation/allocation Daily data center statistics 14

Persona Based Access IT Manager User Profile The IT Manager is a key consumer of services in the data center. Generally the IT Manager understands Rack based equipment in the Datacenter. The IT Manager will be more interested in physical capacity at the rack level and that mission critical IT systems are hosted on redundant power circuits. The IT Manager will take a great interest in an area based 3D floor plan, generally drilling down into the rack level and leveraging enhanced reporting. Insight Needed Moves/Adds/Changes of IT Equipment Rack Insight Asset Management 15

Persona Based Access Facilities Manager User Profile The Facilities Manager is concerned with the operational view of large, building level equipment such as generators, chillers and EMS systems. Generally the facilities manager will be physically patrolling the data center and visually checking the metrics of the largest devices The facilities manager is predominately focused on day to day aspects in the Data Center, specifically real time trend charts, capacity availability and reporting. Insight Needed Real time facilities alerting Holistic Power Management Facilities Device Control 16

Persona Based Access User Profile The consumer of service requires insight into their consumption and billing information. The consumer of services needs a reliable channel to interface with the service provider and to have confidence that SLA s are being met. Insight Needed Interface with Service Provider Monthly Reports Value Added Insight Customer The consumer of service needs realtime insight into their paid for service, such as power, capacity & processing capability. 17

Optimized for Access Each of these personas have a mobility device. Each of these personas have the ability to visit an app store and gain insight into their data center with a single click. 18

Optimized for Access To serve the needs of a mobile workforce, insight into the data center needs to be easily accessible. The flexibility and on demand capability of such insight helps the data center business to continue to innovate in a fast moving environment. 19

Optimized for Consumption 20

Optimized for Consumption Flat Screen TV 1080p HD & 4K UHD Traditionally, a DCIM solution is the centerpiece of any Data Center Operations Room. Generally the big screen will provide the operational insight and serve as the showcase for Executive walkthroughs. However, often times the information presented in this format doesn t always match the day to day insight needed by a cross functional Data Center operation. 21

Optimized for Consumption 2 in 1 (Laptop/Tablet Hybrid) Advanced functionality, standard consumption model. Tablet Device Near parity in feature set, laptop replacement one generation away. Smart Phone Total user base penetration, consumption based on function and size. 22

Optimized for Collaboration As DCIM starts to span multiple business lines in the data center, we are seeing adoption of the capability across multiple stakeholders, but also the patterns of access are changing. Many stakeholders are looking for a fully featured DCIM capability that is easy to access from inside and outside the data center. More importantly a DCIM capability is required that allows stakeholders to manage their daily workflows specific to their role or activity. 23

Mobility at the Core Consumer Persona Process Whilst the roles that manage and maintain a Data Center are well defined, the interactions and workflows between each of the stakeholders is much more fluid. Mobility The level of collaboration and exchange of ideas between these stakeholders is what provides the competitive edge in the data center. IT Facilities The ability for a DCIM platform to furnish each stakeholder with the relevant insight at the right time in an easy to consume format is the primary value in any DCIM capability. 24

Functional Process Data Center Sales Data Center Operations DCIM Mobility Capability Business Planning Customer Interaction Within the functional flow, a robust DCIM capability is already in place many of the metrics and reports are already available the real value is delivering this information to the stakeholder with easy to deploy & consume, mobile ready view into the data center. 25

DCIM Evolution We see that DCIM will continue to grow and provide richer feature & function the rate of DCIM core adoption will continue to expand across the APAC region. As DCIM core components become largely commoditized we will see a continued evolution into DCSO for more enhanced, value added insight. 26

DCIM Evolution The competitive advantage any data center will gain from a DCIM capability will be the ability to consume the relevant information via a mobile centric, business insight point of view. DCIM is fundamentally a capability platform, whilst all involved have a different point of view about what a DCIM platform should deliver, the key driver is still the ability for the individual stakeholder to receive insight relevant to their decision making process. 27
