This will take you to a page that has links to all the sculptures with basic tombstone information and photographs provided by the Five College Database. Step 1: Create Your Content In the gray navigation bar, click Your Project. To start off, click Create Project Page. This will take you a new screen where you can fill out the required information for your page.
Create a Project Title for your overall project. You will keep this same title for all your project pages so they can be grouped together. Input a Page Number. Next, create an Admin Title. Your admin title should be easy to recognize so you can easily find your content in the future. An easy format is Project Title (Author: Your Name) Page Number. For example, Niki de Saint Phalle (Author: Emily Bumgardner) 1. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Make sure you select the appropriate course and click Save. Follow this same process for adding additional pages. Make sure to keep a consistent Project Title and clearly label your Admin Title every time. For a faster process when browsing the site, you can also click the Add Content button in the gray navigation bar. Click Project Page and follow the above instructions for filling out the page information.
Step 2: Find Your Content Once you ve created your first page, you can go back and edit it. Return to the Your Project page. Click Find Your Content. A new page displaying recently added content will appear. Find your project and click the Edit link on the right.
For a faster process, you can also click the Find Content link in the gray navigation bar. This same page (above) will appear. Step 3: Add Your Content
You should now see a similar page to what you encountered in Step 1. Now you can add content! The overall web layout is divided into two sections: left and right. There are left and right text boxes where you can add the text of your paper. Further down the page there are options to upload nodes to your page, including videos, photos, audio, and additional media. If you enter content into the left text box and upload a node, the node will appear in the free space on the right side of the page, and vice versa. This left right set up is an easy way to begin thinking about the format of your page. In these text boxes, it is also possible to embed media. While this will give you more control over where the media will appear on your page, the nodes typically fulfill the same function. To embed a photo, click the photo icon on the toolbar. A new window will appear. You can upload an image by clicking Browse Server. A new window will appear, which will allow you to select photos that have already been added to the website (See step 3d) or upload your own photos. Once you have uploaded or selected your photo, you will be able to preview the image and text in the small Preview window. The boxes to the right of the window will allow you to adjust the size of the image, add a border, or add space between the image
and text (HSpace and VSpace). You can also adjust how the image is set within the text in the Alignment box. Once you are finished adjusting your image, click OK. Scroll down to the bottom of your page and click Save. 3a. Add a Node Directly to a Page You can add nodes directly to pages or upload them independently of pages. To upload a node directly to the page, scroll down to the node section under the text boxes and click Add new node under the desired media section. The uploading processes are outlined by media below. 3b. Video, Image, and Audio Nodes To upload a video that you have saved to your computer, scroll down to the node section and click Video > Add new node. Add a video title, choose your file and then hit Upload. Your video file MUST be txt, mp3, mov, or mp4 format and maximum 50MB to be uploaded to the site. The website also gives you the option to add a description and tombstone label text to the video. Once your video is finished uploading, click Create Node under the tombstone label. Make sure to scroll down and click Save before exiting out of the page. Your video is now saved to that page.
This process of uploading content is virtually the same for both the image and audio nodes. Images MUST be png, gif, jpg, or jpeg and maximum 50MB to uploaded to the site. Audio files MUST be txt or mp3 and maximum 50MB. You must always title your node, and you have the option of adding tombstone text to these files. 3c. Media Nodes The media feature allows you to embed media (like Youtube videos, Sketchfab, or ThingLink) onto the page using an iframe code. (See our tutorials on Sketchfab and ThingLink to see where to find the iframe codes on these platforms). If you go to Youtube, you can find this code underneath a video s Share tab. Click Share > Embed and copy the highlighted code. On the website, click Media > Add new node. Add a title and click the Source button. Then paste the link you copied from your video into the text box. You have the option to add a tombstone label below.
Scroll down and click Create Node. Once it is finished uploading, scroll down and click Save. 3d. Add a Node Independent of a Page To add a node separately from a page, return to the Your Content page and click Find Your Content. Click the + Add Content in the upper left hand corner. Select whichever media type you would like to upload. When the upload is complete, scroll down and click Save. You can now find your media the same way you found your project page. Click the Find Content button in the gray navigation bar. Your uploaded media should appear in the list. To add this content to a page, find your project page under the Find Content feature. Once you are on your project page, scroll down to the node section. Select Add existing node under whichever media you wish to upload.
Type in the title of your previously uploaded media. Select it from the drop down menu and click Add node. Once it is uploaded, scroll down and hit Save. 4. Previewing Your Work Now that your content is uploaded, you can review it. To preview your content, return to the home page by clicking the home button in the top left corner of the screen in the black navigation bar. When you return to the home page, click the Courses link.
Select your course. Click Your Project in the light gray navigation bar. Then click Find Projects on the next page. Select your project from the list. This will take you to your pages. If all your pages share the same Project Title (explained in Step 1), then you should see page navigation numbers at the bottom of the screen, which will allow you to flip between pages. Continue to edit your work, using these pages as a preview for the finished product.
It should be noted that this preview feature under the Find Projects tab is what your content will look like when it is published. To most clearly gauge how your project develops visually as you edit it, have two tabs or windows open when working. In one tab or window, edit your work; have the preview of your final published page open in another. After making each new edit, you can refresh the preview of the final published page to see your changes.
