It is mainly based n upgrading an existing 8.2.x r 8.3.x system; hwever it des include infrmatin n the extra steps/tips if yu are upgrading an 8.1.x system. Cntrller is an imprtant prduct/system t its users. Therefre, care shuld be taken ver upgrading a Cntrller system. Therefre: In an ideal wrld, upgrading shuld nly t be dne by experienced IBM Cgns technical cnsultants Hwever, less experienced peple may wish t use this dcument (fr example fr upgrading test systems - r dem VMWare images). Hwever, this dcument may als be used by the I.T. administratrs f IBM Cgns Cntrller 8 custmers t upgrade their live systems, but nly at their wn risk. This dcument assumes the fllwing: Yu are currently running a Cntrller 8.x release (nt 2.x) yu can check this by clicking help-abut inside the applicatin Yu wish t upgrade t Cntrller 8.4 RTM This was released in Nvember 2008 This versin is als knwn as versin 8.4.116 (in help-abut inside the applicatin) The filename is cntrl_win32_8.4.27.15_ml.tar.gz ) when dwnlading frm IBM Cgns Als, we are assuming: There is nly ne (single) Cntrller 8.x applicatin server Cntrller has been installed in a standard/simple/ default way, with n special custmizatin The nly IBM Cgns applicatin n the APP server is Cntrller Fr example yu have nt gt the full IBM Cgns 8 BI sftware suite installed n it, and/r Cgns Planning etc. Yu have already gt a suitable backup f the server (fr example a full Ghst image), and yu are happy that yu have a fallback plan in place shuld anything unexpected happen during the upgrade This is purely as a precautin, in case f unexpected prblems.
Upgrading t IBM Cgns Cntrller 8.4 frm a previus 8.x versin 6 2.2 Descriptin f terms used in this dcument This dcument refers t terms such as the fllwing: Cntrller admin user Als knwn as the Cntrller service accunt r system accunt, r ften as the COM+ user. This is a Windws Dmain User accunt (created inside yur Windws NT/AD dmain), fr the purpse f running backgrund services (e.g. COM+) n behalf f Cntrller Cntrller User grup This is the Windws Dmain Grup that cntains all the users, including the Cntrller Admin User itself. Under certain special circumstances, Cntrller can authenticate users via this grup membership. In ther wrds, yu may nt be able t launch Cntrller if yu are nt a member f this grup, even if yu are a dmain administratr! Database/Micrsft SQL server Mst custmers use Micrsft SQL (2000 r 2005) as ppsed t Oracle (9i r 10G) as their database repsitry. This dcument shall therefre generally assume the use f Micrsft SQL. Applicatin Server This is yur Windws 2003 Server, which is running the Cntrller lgic. Assuming that the system has been installed n a single all-in-ne server, this server includes a COM+ service, a Cgns 8 BI Java applicatin and an ASP.NET website. Citrix Server / Micrsft Terminal Server Many custmers decide t deply the Cntrller 8 client via Citrix r Terminal Services (especially t remte/nn-lan users). Inside this dcument, fr the sake f simplicity, we shall refer t Terminal Servers as simply Citrix servers. Installatin directries the drive/flder used when installing Cntrller. This may be different fr each server (e.g. applicatin server and Citrix server). By default, it is: C:\Prgram Files\Cgns\c8 Enhanced Reprting Optimizatin settings als knwn as ERO and Optimise2 fr mst situatins, these settings include: a path t a netwrk share a Windws username/passwrd (fr share access) a subflder (if necessary) These settings are used t temprarily stre files fr bulk inserts int the database NOTE: Optimise2 was nt pssible with Cntrller 8.1; therefre yu will nt have printscreens with this infrmatin available n yur existing 8.1 implementatin. TIP: All f the abve infrmatin will have been given t yu if the system was installed by IBM Cgns, as part f the Custmer Visit Reprt (CVR) that the technical cnsultant prvides after the visit. Hwever, if yu are uncertain f the values, there are methds f duble-checking see Appendix A.
Upgrading t IBM Cgns Cntrller 8.4 frm a previus 8.x versin 7 2.3 Main Prerequisites Ensure that all users are aware that the Cntrller system will be unavailable. Assuming the upgrade is perfrmed by an efficient and experienced persn, then: the server upgrade prcess shuld take apprximately 1 hur the client upgrade prcess shuld take apprx 5 minutes fr each client Naturally, if yu are inexperienced, then the prcess will take lnger. Check that all yur database(s) (in ther wrds, bth the applicatin databases and the CntentStre database) have been successfully backed-up recently (fr example, the night befre) this upgrade will alter the applicatin database schema and thus render the database unreadable t any earlier versin f Cntrller Therefre, in the unlikely event f an issue with the upgrade, yu wuld need t revert the database back t the versin befre the upgrade. It will als upgrade the CntentStre, and thus render it ptentially unreadable t any earlier versin f Cntrller. Therefre, in the event f an issue with the upgrade, we may need t g back t the ld versin f the database. Vital: In later steps, there is requirement t apply sme settings t the Cgns Cnfiguratin and Cntrller Cnfiguratin prgrams. It is vital that these prgrams are launched befre the upgrade, and yu make a nte f all the settings (which we shall refer t later in the dcument). Therefre, befre prceeding: launch Cgns Cntrller Cnfiguratin frm the Start Menu take print-screens f all the current settings and paste them int a Wrd dcument fr reference purpses. Fr example, here is ne f the screens that yu shuld take a cpy f:

Click "File - Exprt As" When prmpted, chse "yes" t exprt decrypted cntent Chse a new flder (fr example, nt the desktp ) Save the file as cgstartup.xml Keep this file safe. Repeat the abve fr Cgns Cntrller Cnfiguratin Fr example: Repeat the abve print-screen until all infrmatin inside each and every sectin is captured By perfrming the abve, this will allw yu t refer back t yur settings later, when yu are asked t enter the apprpriate values. Therefre, befre cntinuing, please mdify the Windws system variable JAVA_HOME The default (ld) setting is C:\Prgram Files\cgns\c8\bin\jre\1.4.2 The default (crrect) setting is C:\Prgram Files\cgns\c8\bin\jre\1.5.0 Afterwards, yu must rebt the Cntrller applicatin server. TIP: Fr mre infrmatin, see KB1037475 - Cannt start Cgns 8 Service after upgrading t Cntrller 8.3 VITAL: Yu MUST install the Service Pack 1 versin f.net 2.0 ( NetFx20SP1_x86.exe ), *nt* the riginal versin ( dtnetfx.exe ). Service Pack 1 can give huge perfrmance increases sme Cntrller tasks run three times quicker when using.net 2.0 SP1. This is because 8.2 and 8.3 use Micrsft.NET Framewrk 2.0 (cmpared with.net Framewrk 1.1 fr Cntrller 8.1.x). 1. Lgn t the Cntrller Applicatin server 2. Fr perfrmance increases, it is typically recmmended t disable Caspl internet certificate checking by running the fllwing cmmand: C:\WINDOWS\Micrsft.NET\Framewrk\v2.0.50727\CasPl.exe -e ff 8. Finally, there is a requirement t cnfigure a.net 2.0 trust, s that the applicatin server trust itself. The quickest way t d this is fr is t run the fllwing batch file line. Create a batch file (e.g. Cntrller_NET2.0_caspl_trust.bat ) with the cntents similar t the fllwing: @ech ff REM Batch file created by Richard.Cllins@Cgns.cm REM last updated - 28th March 2007 REM REM Fllwing lines add a.net 2.0 trust REM REM Make sure that yu change the "servername"... Lgn t the applicatin server lcally n the cnsle TIP: Assuming that yur server is running Windws 2003 server, yu can cnnect t the cnsle sessin using the cmmand: mstsc.exe /cnsle Alternatively, physically lgn t the server at its cnsle (e.g. by walking up t it in the server rm) Alternatively, cnnect t the cnsle sessin by using VNC r PCAnywhere 2. Disable new lgns n the server t ensure that n remte users are using the system: - launch a DOS prmpt - change lgn /disable 3. Check n users are running a remte sessin n the server - start run - TSADMIN (see belw) - check that yu are the nly user lgged nt the server (yu will be clred green see belw - lgff any ther users (if necessary) - duble-check that yu are cnnecting t the cnsle sessin (circled belw in red)

Uninstall the ld versin f the Cntrller client frm the server: - On the server, launch Add/Remve Prgrams : - Highlight Cgns 8 Cntrller Link Add-In (This will be named differently, depending n the versin f Cntrller yu have installed) - Click Remve - Cnfirm that yu want t uninstall the sftware - Repeat the abve fr Cgns Cntrller Frms Cnverter (in the unlikely event that this is als installed) Finally, repeat the abve fr each f the Citrix/Terminal servers (i.e. in additin t the applicatin server)
Upgrading t IBM Cgns Cntrller 8.4 frm a previus 8.x versin 14 3.2 Uninstall existing versin f Cntrller 8.x server Frm the Applicatin Server: Launch Start Prgrams Cgns8 Uninstall Cgns 8 Uninstall Cgns 8 - Click Next - At the fllwing screen, tick the bx next t Cgns Cntrller then next - After a few minutes, it will have uninstalled all (~246) cmpnents - Afterwards, click Finish TIP: At this stage (befre ging any further), please take a backup f the current residual files (thse left behind after the uninstall). Fr example, cpy the flder C:\Prgram Files\Cgns\C8 t a new lcatin (e.g. C:\Prgram Files\Cgns\C8.backup_befre_8.3_upgrade ). This is t make an archive f the ld cnfiguratin files. By ding the abve, it wuld make reverting t the previus Cntrller versin (in the event f issues) much easier.
Upgrading t IBM Cgns Cntrller 8.4 frm a previus 8.x versin 15 3.3 Installatin f Cntrller 8.4 Server Lgn t the Cntrller Applicatin Server and launch the install rutine frm the CD Fr example, duble-click n cntrl_win32_8.4.27.15_ml.tar\win32\issetup.exe During the install, yu are asked several questins. Assuming that yu nly have ne single applicatin server, then typically chse the fllwing defaults: Next I Accept, Next Next Next Next Next The install will start (typically 330 cmpnents). After it has cmpleted, click Finish. 3.4 Cgns Cnfiguratin Launch Cgns Cnfiguratin frm Start IBM Cgns 8 Cgns Cnfiguratin After this has launched, acknwledge the message t upgrade the cnfiguratin: TIP: If yu get an errr message here, similar t The current cryptgraphic infrmatin is nt cmpatible with the new JRE then see KB#1042176.

Upgrading t IBM Cgns Cntrller 8.4 frm a previus 8.x versin 22 3.8 Optinal nly required if using ISAPI (nt the default = CGI) When Cntrller was first installed, it is pssible that Cntrller was cnfigured t use ISAPI and nt CGI fr its reprting. This is an ptinal cnfiguratin change that *may* give better perfrmance under certain circumstances. If this was dne, then perfrm/check the fllwing t ensure that ISAPI is re-enabled: launch Cgns Cnfiguratin Lcate Envirnment and then search fr Gateway URI Mdify entry t have cgnsisapi.dll instead f cgns.cgi at the end Click save Restart the Cgns8 BI service In additin, launch the fllwing: Ntepad.exe c:\prgram files\cgns\c8\webcntent\default.htm Mdify the entry frm cgns.cgi t cgnsisapi.dll instead: Repeat the abve fr the file: c:\prgram files\cgns\c8\webcntent\index.htm Finally, change the Reprt Server setting (inside Cntrller Cnfiguratin ) t use cgnsisapi.dll:

Hwever, there may be a reasn (e.g. fr sme custmers delivering Cntrller via Citrix) where the client (e.g. Citrix server r end user s PC) device has the CCR flder (cntaining CCR.EXE and the ther files) cpied lcally (i.e. nt his/her PC). If this is true, then this flder needs t be updated with the new CCR flder, [which is fund as a subflder f webcntent n the Applicatin server] => typically there is n actin required n the client PC regarding this part. ========================================================== 2) The Excel link (an add-in which is installed frm an.msi file) T upgrade, simply uninstall the ld versin f the Excel link (n each client PC and/r Citrix server). Afterwards, simply re-install the later versin in the same way as it was riginally installed. (Typically this means deplying the file CntrllerClient.MSI fr manual installs, and ClientAdmin.MSI when autmatically deplying via a tl such as Active Directry). ========================================================== 4.2 Pre-requisites The perfrmance f the Cntrller client can imprve dramatically if the Micrsft.NET Framewrk 2.0 is patched t the latest versin (Service Pack 1). Click Help Abut and check that the versin f Cntrller has upgraded, as expected. Afterwards, launch Excel, and click Cntrller Abut Cntrller Excel link. Check that the versin f Cntrller has upgraded, as expected. Citrix Server / Micrsft Terminal Server Fr sme custmers, they chse t deply entirely via Citrix/Terminal Server. Installatin directries the drive/flder used when installing Cntrller. This may be different fr each server Simply lgn t each applicatin/citrix server (and client PC if lcally installed) t find where Cntrller is installed (e.g. right-click and click prperties n Cntrller start menu item). Enhanced Reprting Optimizatin settings On yur applicatin server, launch Cntrller Cnfiguratin. Click n Enhanced Reprting Optimizatin Make a nte f yur settings fr each database cnnectin. After yu have upgraded Cntrller, yu may need t re-enter these settings (previus versins f Cntrller frgt these settings during an upgrade, but mre recent versins remember them). 6.2 Appendix B Citrix/Terminal Services when using Raming Prfiles Fr mst custmers (nt using Terminal Services raming prfiles) can ignre this sectin. Check whether yur dmain/active Directry is set t use Raming Prfiles fr Terminal Service sessins (NB this is a cmpletely separate setting frm Raming Prfiles fr nrmal Windws sessins (e.g. when the user lgs nt his/her Windws XP PC). Cnsider the prblem that wuld be caused if the users had raming prfiles fr multiple Citrix/Terminal servers. Since Cntrller creates/requires an Excel add-in fr their prfile, if the user lgs nt a Terminal Server (r Citrix server) that des nt have Cntrller installed (r has Cntrller installed t a different lcatin) then the user prfile (i.e. registry settings) will be pinting t files that either d nt exist r are in the wrng lcatin. Therefre the user will get errrs. In ther wrds, by default, when the user launches a sessin n a Citrix server with Cntrller installed, and then launches Excel, his/her prfile will try t pen the C:\Prgram Files\Cgns\CCR\CntrllerXL.xll addin. If they lgff, and then lgn t a Citrix server WITHOUT Cntrller installed, it will STILL try t pen this file but the file wuldn t exist, therefre they wuld get an errr! The easiest way t slve this is t remve the Excel add-in frm the default prfile n the Terminal Server, but manually add it as part f a published Excel batch file. T d this, n each Citrix/Terminal Server (whilst n users are lgged n): In a cmmand prmpt, type change user /install Launch Excel Tls add-ins. UNTICK the Cntrller add-in Cgns Cntrller link Exit Excel change user /execute The abve will have remved the autmatic lading f the add-in.
