3 1. Intrductin Overview A majr part f the prduct life cycle is the upgrade t the next release. Upgrade prcedures are knwn t smetimes be a cause f failures, s in this dcument we present yu with the best practices recmmended by HPE R&D fr a smth upgrade f HPE LadRunner. Audience This dcument is intended fr Perfrmance Engineers wh are respnsible fr maintaining and upgrading the varius LadRunner cmpnents. General upgrade infrmatin can be fund in the LadRunner Installatin Guide. 2. Preparatin Backup assets Befre beginning the upgrade prcedure, make sure all yur assets are prperly backed up; i.e. VuGen scripts, Cntrller scenaris, Analysis test results and generated reprts. Dwnlad relevant sftware Dwnlad the apprpriate LadRunner versin frm the HPE Sftware dwnlad site (r frm yur frmal sftware prvider). Prepare the target machine 1. If yu are upgrading frm a LadRunner versin earlier than 11.00, yu must manually uninstall the existing installatin f LadRunner befre prceeding with the installatin f the new versin. 2. If yu are upgrading frm LadRunner versin 11.0x and abve, there is n need t uninstall befre yu upgrade. The upgrade prcess uninstalls the previus versin autmatically, withut need fr manual interventin. Nte: The abve steps apply fr all LadRunner installatins: LadRunner Full setup, VuGen standalne, Lad Generatr standalne, etc.

4 3. Upgrade prcess Imprtant: It is highly recmmended that yu perfrm the upgrade n all LadRunnerrelated machines. LadRunner des nt supprt hybrid cnfiguratins; fr example, where the Cntrller is ne LadRunner versin and the Lad Generatr is a different versin. As in any cmplex system upgrade, it is recmmended that yu first perfrm the upgrade n yur staging envirnment, and after that n the prductin envirnment. See Upgrade the staging envirnment befre the prductin envirnment fr mre infrmatin. LadRunner sftware upgrade prcedure Assuming yu are upgrading frm versin 11.5x t a newer release, perfrm the fllwing: Run the setup.exe file (fund in the installatin flder). Chse the relevant installatin frm the setup windw. Nte: The selected installatin ptin must match what is already installed n the machine; this means, fr example, that yu cannt chse LadRunner full setup n a machine that has a standalne lad generatr installatin. If yu want t change the setup n the machine, manually uninstall the existing installatin befre installing the new versin. The upgrade prcedure uninstalls the previus installatin, s the whle upgrade takes mre time than a regular clean installatin. Once the installatin finishes successfully, clse the setup windw. Nte: A rebt may be required if yu als install Netwrk Virtualizatin. Upgrade the staging envirnment befre the prductin envirnment After upgrading the staging envirnment, perfrm the fllwing steps prir t upgrading yur prductin envirnment: Open each mdule (VuGen, Cntrller, and Analysis) and verify a successful launch. Verify that yu d nt see any license errrs. Recrd a shrt script in VuGen, using yur mst cmmnly used prtcl. Replay nce. Verify the replay was successful. Create and run a simple Cntrller scenari (1 script, 10 Vusers, 5 minute run). Verify yu see mnitrs starting.

5 Verify successful cmpletin f the scenari (i.e. n Cntrller crashes). Open results with Analysis. Verify default graphs are available and that they present cherent data. Once these tests have been perfrmed and have passed successfully, prceed with upgrading yur prductin envirnment. LadRunner license upgrade prcedure If yu are upgrading frm versin and abve, then yu d nt need t upgrade r replace yur license. The previus existing license will wrk with the new release. If yu are upgrading frm a release lder than 11.50, then yu will need a new license. T btain this, yu submit a ticket t the HPE Sftware Licensing Team, using the accunt yu use t submit supprt tickets r access the KB database. Fr the ticket, yu will need the active SAID (received with yur supprt cntract) assciated with the prduct, and the hst ID f the machine where LadRunner is installed. Yu can btain the active SAID and hst ID frm the fllwing lcatin n the machine, after the upgrade prcess has cmpleted successfully: Fr versin 11.5x: Click Start > All Prgrams > LadRunner > Cnfiguratin > LadRunner License. Fr versin 12.0x: Open the LadRunner License Utility. Nte: If yu need a new license, use the license prtal t manage this request. The license prtal can be accessed thrugh this URL: LadRunner upgrade registry cnsideratins T put it simply there are n registry preparatins t perfrm prir t an upgrade. The keys and values stred by ne LadRunner installatin can be utilized by the ne that replaces it. If yu decide t uninstall LadRunner cmpletely (withut upgrading), thse values can stay in the registry, they wn t cause any harm t ther applicatins. LadRunner assets upgrade prcedure There is n need t manually upgrade existing VuGen scripts, Cntrller scenaris r Analysis files. Once yu pen them in the newly installed release, yu can safely use them as befre. Nte: The abve is relevant fr Recrd & Replay scripts. If yur scripts are dependent n the n-bard cmpiler in LadRunner (fr example yu have.h files which were cmpiled in versin 11.0x and yu have upgraded t versin 12.0x) yu will need t recmpile these files in the new release t enable the script t wrk.
