Welcome SimpleText.ws is a website with the following goal: Your writing, notes, and to-do lists online. SimpleText.ws stores your text and keeps it synced between your work, home, and devices like the iphone. Unlike manual syncing, SimpleText.ws merges your changes so you'll never lose data. SimpleText for Mac keeps your SimpleText.ws website documents synced to your Mac. Working with SimpleText for Mac SimpleText for Mac runs as a status bar item. When running it watches for changes in your SimpleText folder and immediately syncs those changes to the website. Sync Sync the contents of your SimpleText folder with the www.simpletext.ws website. Open SimpleText Folder Opens the SimpleText folder in the Mac OS X Finder. Each document inside is a plain text file that can be opened and edited. Open SimpleText Website Opens the SimpleText.ws website in your browser so that you can view the online versions of your documents. Sign Out Signs you out so that you can Sign In with a different account.
Basic Tasks Using SimpleText for Mac is pretty simple. Edit text files in the SimpleText folder, and the changes that you make are synced to the SimpleText.ws website. To edit a synced document Open the document in a text editor, and then save your changes. To rename a synced document Use the Finder to rename the document that you wish to rename. To create a new synced document Create a new plain text file in the SimpleText folder. To delete a synced document Remove the document that you wish to delete from the SimpleText folder. To sync your SimpleText folder to the website SimpleText for Mac will sync on startup and anytime the contents of the SimpleText folder changes. You can also force a sync at anytime by choosing the Sync menu item. Resolving Sync Conflicts Most of the time sync conflicts don t happen. Even when you edit the same document in two different places (for example with on your Mac with SimpleText for Mac and on your iphone with WriteRoom for iphone) the SimpleText.ws website will merge those changes together.
When the changes cannot be merged you ll be notified that a conflict occurred. To resolve the conflict visit the SimpleText.ws website, and then click on the Conflicts button, and you ll be taken to a list of unresolved conflicts. Preferences To access SimpleText for Mac s preferences choose the Preferences menu item. Start on login When selected SimpleText for Mac will start when you log in. Automatically checks for updates When selected SimpleText for Mac will automatically check for new versions of itself. Automatically sync when local files change When selected SimpleText for Mac will watch for changes in your local SimpleText folder and automatically sync them to the website. Sync Service Settings These settings are only necessary if you are self hosting the SimpleText.ws website on your own servers. SimpleText for Mac Tips & Tricks Folders are ignored by the sync process. All synced documents must be listed in the top level SimpleText folder. Hidden files in your SimpleText folder are ignored when syncing. To change the location of your SimpleText folder first quit SimpleText. Then open Terminal.app and run defaults write com.hogbaysoftware.simpletext SyncedDocumentsPathKey NEW_SYNC_FOLDER_PATH. Then restart SimpleText.
