Integration Network Connection BACnet/IP Addressing The BACnet/IP (B/IP) address of the MicroTech II Applied Rooftop Unit Controller in a BACnet/IP network consists of the four-octet IP address followed by the two-octet UDP (User Datagram Protocol) port number. The BACnet/IP address is a six-octet value analogous to a MAC address. The IP address portion of the BACnet/IP address must be unique in the BACnet/IP network segment. The default UDP port number in the MicroTech II Applied Rooftop Unit Controller is 47808 (BAC0 in hexadecimal). The device object of the MicroTech II Applied Rooftop Unit Controller contains an IP Subnet Mask (Default subnet mask is 255.255.0.0) and a unique IP address. The controller does not support DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) IP addressing. The MicroTech II Applied Rooftop Unit Controller can be incorporated into an Ethernet network dedicated to BACnet devices only or an Ethernet network shared with BACnet devices and other devices. Dedicated BACnet Networks For an Ethernet network dedicated to BACnet devices only, the default IP address and IP Subnet Mask in the MicroTech II Applied Rooftop Unit Controller device object may be used. The default IP Address of the controller is written in the device object and can be determined in one of two ways: 1. Construct the IP Address from the MAC Address of the controller (the MAC address is the 18- digit [six-octet] number on the label affixed to the Main Control Board): IP Address Octet Method Range 1 (Most Significant) 172 (this value is fixed) 172 2 16 (this value is fixed) 16 3 Either 64 + Logical AND of the Fifth Octet of the MAC Address and 63 or 64 + (Fifth Octet of the MAC Address) Mod 64 64-127 4 (Least Significant) Sixth Octet of the MAC Address 0-255 The method you use to find the third octet requires further explanation. Either method gives the same answer for this modulus (64). The first method requires that you convert the Fifth Octet of the MAC Address to a binary number and logically AND it bit-by-corresponding-bit with 63 (3F in hex or 00111111 in binary) and then convert the result to a decimal value and add it to 64. The second method adds 64 to the Fifth Octet of the MAC Address Modulus 64. The result of the Modulus operation is the remainder only (ignore the quotient) of dividing the fifth octet by 64. For example 20 mod 64 is 20 and 65 mod 64 is 1. For example, for a MicroTech II Applied Rooftop Unit Controller with a MAC Address of 0.16.141.0.54.190, the IP address would be 172.16.118.190. 54 = 110110; (110110 AND 111111 = 110110 =.54); 54 + 64 = 118 54 mod 64 = 54; 54 + 64 = 118 IM703-0 11

Note: You can use the scientific version of the Windows calculator on you computer to make either of these calculations. 2. Read IP Address property from the device object using a service tool or another BACnet device. To set the IP Address of other BACnet IP devices (workstations, routers, controllers) in the dedicated BACnet Ethernet network select IP Addresses with the first two octets the same as the IP Address of the controller (the default subnet mask is 255.255.0.0), and the third and fourth octets close to the third and fourth octets of the MicroTech II Applied Rooftop Unit Controller IP Address. For example, assign the IP Address of the workstation to 172.16.118.191 for the controller in the previous example. Use the same IP Mask in the workstation as in the controller (255.255.0.0). Shared BACnet Networks Integrating the MicroTech II Applied Rooftop Unit Controller into a shared Ethernet LAN requires close cooperation with the network administrator of the shared Ethernet network. First, obtain the IP Subnet Mask of the shared network from the network administrator. Then, obtain static IP Addresses for all MicroTech II Applied Rooftop Unit Controllers you are integrating into the shared network. Finally obtain the address of an IP Router to use for sending IP messages to and from the BACnet IP subnets. Once you have these, write them to the IP Address, IP Mask, and IP Router Address properties of the device object in the MicroTech II Applied Rooftop Unit Controller. The default BACnet/IP Network Address in the MicroTech II controller is 1001. The Network Address must be unique for each BACnet network segment. All BACnet/IP devices on all Ethernet segments must have the same BACnet/IP Network Address. This is the Network Address property of the device object of the MicroTech II Applied Rooftop Unit Controller. Finally, the Communication Option property of the MicroTech II Applied Rooftop Unit Controller device object must be set to NONE for BACnet IP communications to take place. NONE is the default value for this property. Configuring the Unit Controller The MicroTech II Main Control Board and BACnet Ethernet/IP Communications Module are loaded with software, programmed, and configured at the factory as a unit controller. The unit is ready to operate with the default values of the various parameters set at the factory. Default values may be changed with the unit s keypad or via the network. See the appropriate operation manual for default values and keypad operating instructions and see the appropriate MicroTech II Protocol Information Data for descriptions of the network variables. See Reference Documents for part numbers. 12 IM703-0

Service Information Test Procedures Replaceable Parts List If you can control the unit from its keypad, but you are not able to communicate with unit via the network: Check the network wiring Check communications Use the standard TCP/IP suite of protocols to check your connectivity with other devices. For example, type ping <IP address of the MicroTech II BACnet Ethernet/IP Communications Module>. If you get a response from that IP address, you are connected to the BACnet Ethernet/IP Communications Module. Use the Transmit LED to determine whether data is reaching the output connector; use the Receive LED to determine whether any responses are being received. If the MicroTech II BACnet Ethernet/IP Communications Module still does not respond, replace the communications module with a new one.
