Internet Access: Wireless WVU.Encrypted Network Connecting a Windows 7 Device Prerequisites An activated MyID account is required to use ResNet s wireless network. If you have not activated your MyID account, you will need an active network connection to do so. Connecting your Windows 7 PC to WVU.Encrypted Wireless: http://it.wvu.edu/services/wireless/wvuencrypted/config/configurewindows7 If your PC is also connected to the wired Ethernet network, disconnect it now. If you do not disconnect from the wired network, the computer may choose to use the wired network instead of the wireless network, and the following steps will not work as expected. If the following steps do not work as expected, simply re-connect the Ethernet cable to your computer to regain your network connection. 1. Open your Start Menu, click on "Control Panel" in the right-hand column. 2. Click on "Network and Internet." 1

3. Click on "Network and Sharing Center." 4. In the left-hand column, click on "Manage Wireless Networks." 5. Click on Add. 2

6. Select "Manually create a network profile." 7. Enter the network name as WVU.Encrypted, select security type WPA2-Enterprise and Encryption type AES. Click "Next." 8. Click "Change Connection Settings." 3

9. Click to the Security tab. Make sure the authentication method is Protected EAP (PEAP) and then click the Settings button. 10. Check the box to Validate Server Certificate. Scroll down on the list of trusted root certificates and select Go Daddy Root Certificate Authority G2. Make sure the authentication method is EAP- MSCHAP v2, and click Configure 4

11. Make sure the option to "Automatically connect" is NOT checked. Click OK 12. Click OK on previous screens to return to the WVU.Encrypted Network Properties. Click on Advanced settings. 13. Make sure that Specify authentication mode is checked and select User authentication from drop down menu. Press OK when complete. Press OK in subsequent screens. the 5

14. Click Close on the successful notice. 15. In the bottom right hand of the screen, click on the flashing notification: "Additional information is needed to connect to WVU.Encrypted." 16. Your logon username and password will be your MyID account. If you require assistance, please call the Service Desk at (304) 293-4444. 6

12. Make sure that Specify authentication mode is checked and select User authentication from the drop down menu. Press OK when complete. 13. Return to the home screen and move your cursor to the upper right hand corner of the desktop. Choose Settings from the taskbar. 14. Click Available to show detected wireless networks. 11

15. Select WVU.Encrypted. 16. Click in the check box if you prefer to connect to WVU.Encrypted automatically. Then, click Connect. 17. Use your MyID credentials to authenticate. 12
