SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT This is a legal agreement between you, the user, and Sumitomo Electric Interconnect Products, Inc. By installing SumiMark 6 Software, you agree to be bound by the terms of this agreement. If you do not agree to these terms, promptly return all items (systems, components, written materials, packaging) for a full refund. The software is protected by United States copyright laws and international treaties. You may make one copy of the software solely for backup or archival purposes. You may not rent or lease the software or copy the written materials accompanying the software. You may not reverse engineer, de-compile, or disassemble the software. ii

I. HARDWARE SETUP Unpacking and Inspection This section is provided to assist you in taking the printer from the shipping container to the application environment and ready for use. 1. Remove top foam packing piece. 2. Lift printer straight up out of box carefully with adequate assistance. 3. Remove accessory kit and supplies. Important: Save box and all packing materials for future use, in the event the printer needs to be shipped. Units returned for service in non-approved packaging may void the warranty or increase repair costs due to shipping damage. Verify the printer box contains the following materials when unpacking: See Figure 1. - SumiMark IV Printer - Tubing Spooler Assembly - Power Cord - Power Surge Protector - Ethernet Cable - Serial Cable - CAT 5 cable - Notched Cutting Blade - CD containing SumiMark 6 software, drivers and other utilities. - A sample ribbon roll with take-up ribbon core (pre-installed on the unit) Figure 1 4

Connecting the Printer and Tubing Spooler To connect your SumiMark IV printer to your computer, you must connect the Serial and Ethernet cables that came with your printer from your computer to the printer. Refer to Figure 2 below for proper cable connections. Now place the Tubing Spooler Assembly to the right side of the printer and connect to printer using the blue CAT5 cable supplied with the printer. Refer to Figure 2 below for proper cable connections. Important: Use the cables that came with the printer, as they have been tested to ensure proper printing. Loading the Ribbon Refer to Figure 3 below and the following directions for loading the ribbon. Tubing Access Cover Ribbon Supply Spindle Ribbon Take-Up Spool Side Access Door Green Print Head Latch Figure 3 1 - Open the Tubing Access Cover. 2 Rotate the Green Print Head Latch counter-clockwise to open the print head module. 3 Open the Side Access Door allowing the ribbon to be loaded. 4 Unwrap the ribbon and place the Ribbon Supply Roll on the Ribbon Supply Spindle located towards the back of the printer. Slide core all the way to the back of the spindle. 5 Place the Ribbon Take-up core on the Ribbon Take-Up Spindle located towards the front of the printer. Slide core all the way to the back of the spindle. 6 Route the ribbon under the print head mechanism, under and around the back of the Ribbon Take-Up Core, then attach with tape to Ribbon Take-Up Core. 7 Tighten ribbon by manually rotating the Take-Up Core counter-clockwise. 8 To ensure proper ribbon operation make sure that ribbon is wound ink out, fed off the back of the Supply spindle, routed under the Print head and re-wound on the Take- Up spindle from the back of the spindle. 6

When properly loaded, the Ribbon Supply will be rotating clockwise and Ribbon Take-Up will be rotating counter-clockwise. Proper ribbon loading method is also shown on diagram inside the Tubing Access Cover. Loading SumiMark Tubing Refer to Figure 4 below and the following directions for loading SumiMark tubing. Rotate the Green Print Head Latch counter-clockwise to open the print head. 7

3. Open the Side Access Door down to allow the tubing to be loaded. 4. Slide the SumiMark tubing spool onto the freestanding Tubing Spooler Assembly with the RFID tag facing inward. Tubing should be feeding from underneath the spool and into the Tubing Access Slot from the back of the SumiMark printer. 5. Route the SumiMark tubing through 3 Tubing Guides as follows: 6. Take the Tube and guide it under the print head and through the cutter. 7. Slide the tubing over the 1st Tubing Guide between the adjustable rollers. 8. Slide the tubing under the 2nd Tubing Guide between the adjustable rollers. 9. Slide the tubing over the 3rd Tubing Guide between the adjustable red fingers. 10. Adjust the 3 Tubing Guides using the red knobs until they almost touch the tubing. Important: The tubing should move freely between all guides. 11. Now that the tubing is sticking out of the cutter, close the Side Access Door and turn the Green Print Head Latch clockwise until it locks into place. II. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION Sumimark 6 Software Installation Important: Close all programs that are currently open on your computer. Insert the SumiMark 6 installation CD into your CD Drive. The Installation window should automatically be displayed. Note: If the Installation window does not display on your computer, use Windows explorer or My Computer, Browse to the CD ROM drive (D:\) and double click on autorun.exe. 8

This window will allow you to View Quick Reference Guide, Install or Update SumiMark 6.0 or Install Printer Driver. To install the SumiMark 6.0 software, click on the Install or Update SumiMark 6.0 button. The Install Software window will be displayed, click on the Install SumiMark 6.0 button. The Welcome window will recommend that you close all other window programs before you continue with the installation. If you have closed all running programs then click on the NEXT> button. Otherwise click on CANCEL button, close all programs and try again. To continue, you must read and agree to the Terms and Conditions of the License Agreement. Read the Terms and Conditions, click on the I agree to the terms of this license agreement option, then click on the NEXT> button. If you do not agree, simply click on the CANCEL button and terminate the installation. The Installation Folder window is now displayed. You may select the default folder (C:\Program Files\SumiMark III) by clicking on the Next > button. Or to select another folder click on the Change button and select a folder of your choosing. The Shortcut Folder window is now displayed. You may now select the shortcut folder you wish to use for the SumiMark software. You may also select whether you wish to Install this program for the installing user or all users. Make your selections if any, then click on the Next > button. You are now at the Ready to Install window. Please check all the settings and make sure they are correct. If you are satisfied with the settings, click on the Next> button, otherwise click the <Back button and make any changes. 9

The installation program will proceed until it has completed installing the SumiMark 6.0 software. When completed, you will be asked if you will be printing using Ethernet or parallel communication. If you choose parallel, skip the Ethernet connectivity installation. Congratulations, your SumiMark software version 6.0 installation is finally completed. Please click on the Finish button to return to the main Installation window. If you choose Ethernet communication, follow the instructions below. Ethernet Connectivity Installation The Welcome window will be displayed, click on the Next> button to continue. Otherwise click on Cancel button, close all programs, then try again. To continue, you must read and agree to the Terms and Conditions of the License Agreement. Read the Terms and Conditions, click on the I accept the terms of the license agreement option, then click on the Next> button. If you do not agree, simply click on the Cancel button and terminate the installation. The Installation Folder window is now displayed. You may select the default folder (C:\Program Files\silex technology\extendview) by clicking on the Next > button. Or to select another folder Click on the Change button and select a folder of your choosing. You are now at the Ready to Install window. If you are satisfied with the settings that you have just made, click on the Install button, otherwise click the <Back button and make any changes. The installation program will proceed until it has completed installing the Silex ExtendView software. When completed, the Finished window will be displayed. Click on the Finish button to complete the process. Congratulations, your SumiMark software version 6.0 installation is completed. Please click on the Finish button to return to the main Installation window. Printer Installation To install the Printer Driver, click on the Install Printer Driver and the Add Printer Wizard window will be displayed. A Welcome window will be displayed. You will have the choice to Install the New Driver, Update an Existing Driver or Remove a Printer Driver. To install the SumiMark printer driver, click on the Install Printer Drivers option, then click on the Next > button. 10

The Specify Printer Model window is displayed. Select the Sumitomo SumiMark IV driver, then click on the Next > button. The Specify Port window is displayed. If you are using a SumiMark printer with a parallel port, select the proper parallel port (LPT1: is the most common) and click on the Next > button and skip down to the Specify Printer Name window on page 15 and 16. 11

If you are using a SumiMark printer with an Ethernet connection, click on the Create Port button. The Create Port window will be displayed. Click on the Standard TCP/IP Port selection to highlight it, then click on the New Port button. The Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard is displayed. Click on the Next > button to continue. 12

The Add Port window is displayed. Type in the Printers IP address in the Printer Name or IP Address prompt (the Port name will automatically be entered). The default IP address for the SumiMark IV printer is 192.0.0.192. When you have entered the correct IP address, click on the Next > button. The Additonal Port Information Required window is displayed. Select the Standard device type and choose the Generic Network Card option. Now click on the Next > button to continue. 13

The TCP/IP completion window is displayed. This is just a verification window. Click on the Finish button to complete the process. The Create Port window remains open, click on the Close button to close this window. 14

You are now returned to the Specify Port window, having the IP address designated as the Port. Click on the Next > button to continue. The Specifiy Printer Name window will be displayed. This window allows you to change the name of the printer, set the SumiMark printer as the Windows default printer. When you have made all the necessary changes, click on the Next > button. 15

The Completing the Add Printer Wizard window is displayed, click on the Finish button to complete the printer installation. A "Printer has not passed window logo testing to verify it's compatibility with Windows XP" message will be displayed. Click on Continue Anyway button. 16

The Add Printer Wizard will continue adding the printer driver. Congratulations, you have now completed adding the TCP/IP port to your SumiMark printer driver. Setting Changes to Printer Driver Note: Whenever you install a printer driver you will need to change the following settings. 1. Click on Start>Printers and Faxes. 2. Right click on your Sumitomo SumiMark Printer icon to match your printer version. 3. Click on the Printing Preferences. The Printer properties window will be displayed. 4. Click on the Stock Tab. 5. Click on the Use Current Printer Settings to un-check the option. 6. Change the Method to Direct Thermal. 7. Change the Mode to Normal. 8. Change the Type to Continuous. 9. Change the Label Present Distance from.24 to.96.. 17

10. Click the Option Tab. 11. Change the Print Speed to 4 in/sec. 12. Change the Darkness to 50, then click the Apply button. 13. Right click on your Sumitomo SumiMark Printer icon to match your printer version. 14. Click on Properties. 18

15. Click on the Advanced tab. 16. Click on Print directly to printer. Click the Apply button. If you want to print markers that are shorter than.50 inches in length continue to steps 17 and 18. If you will be printing markers only over.50 inches in length click on the Ok button. 17. Click on the Tools tab, then click on the Driver Options button. The Driver Options window will be displayed. 18. Click on the Printer Specifications tab, then check the Override Manufacturer Defaults check box and change the Minimum Length to.25 inch. Click the Apply, then click the Ok button. DEFAULT SETTINGS You can use the default settings to set how the system will act and display. To change the Default Settings, from the main SumiMark program, click on Tools>Default Settings. Product Tab Sleeve information Type - This is a list of all of tubing types available for this printing system. To set the default product Type click on the arrow and then clicking on the selected Type. Color - This is a list of all of the tubing colors available for this system. To set the default product Color click on the arrow, then clicking on the selected Color. 19

Size - This is a list of all of the tubing sizes available for this system. To set the default product Size click on the arrow and then clicking on the selected Size. Length - This entry box allows you to enter the marker Length you use most often. This length will be the default Length displayed as you create markers and wire lists. Number of Lines - You may set the Number of Lines you wish to use as your default lines. This is the Number of Lines that will be used as the default lines when you create markers and wire lists. Font Font Name This is a list of all the Font Names available for you to use. Set the default Font Name by clicking on the arrow and then clicking on the selected Font Name. Font Style This is a list of all the Font Styles available for you to use. Set the default Font Style by clicking on the arrow and then clicking on the selected Font Style. Point size - This is a list available Point Sizes for you to use. Set the default Point Size by clicking on the arrow and then clicking on the selected Point Size. MISCELLANEOUS Landscape - Having this checked will allow you to select Landscape (90 degree rotation) as an option in the wire list entry window. Use Graphics and Barcodes - Having this checked will allow the use of the Advanced features such as printing graphics and barcodes at the Wire List Entry window. Allow Variable Length Markers - Having this checked will allow you to enter variable length markers within the same wire list in your Wire List Entry window. Print copies one at a time Having this checked will automatically use this setting as the default in your Print Wire List window. Reduced Line Spacing - Having this checked will automatically print all markers with reduced spacing between the lines on the marker. Auto Overwrite on import - Allows to overwrite an existing wire list when you import a new wire list of the same name. If you do not have this checked, the software will ask if you wish to append to a wire list when you try to import an existing wire list. Import SumiMark I/II into the folder you are importing from - This allows you to set whether a file will be imported into the folder that you are currently reading and writing from, or the folder that you are importing from. Copies Default Choose to set copies for automatic number of copies is always equal to one (Copies = 1), or to allow the user to enter a number of copies each time a marker is printed. 20

Numeric Sequential Character - This is the character used to identify numeric sequencing. The default character is the $ sign but can be changed to any character. Alpha Sequential Character - This is the character used to identify alpha sequencing. The default character is the! sign but can be changed to any character. Duplicate Side Character - This character is used to seperate two pieces of text on a line of a marker (one on the left and one on the right). You will then be able to duplicate that line swapping the left and right test, by choosing the duplicate side feature (Ctrl +I). The default character is a dash (-) but you can change it to any character. Auto Length. Extra Length on Each Side When choosing the Auto Length selection during the Wire List Entry screen, this feature allows you to adjust the unprintable margin on each side of the text. Alignment Horizontal - You may set the default horizontal text alignment to left, right or center. Vertical - You may set the default vertical text alignment to top, bottom or center. Margins Top Margin If needed, enter adjustments to print more exactingly. Negative numbers move text up on the marker and positive numbers move text down on the marker. Left Margin - If needed, enter adjustments to print more exactingly. Negative numbers move text to the left and positive numbers move text to the right. Unit of Measure - This feature allows you to display measurements in Imperial (ie, inches) or Metric (ie, centimeters). Import Option Tab Import Delimited Files Delimited Character Select the default delimter from the selection list (comma, semicolon, space or tab, comma delimited is the most common). This is the delimiter that will be automatically selected when you import a delimited file (the delimiter can be changed at the time of import). What it Delimits Select what the delimiter will delimit as a default (lines or tags). If you delimit lines, the system will take each column of information to be imported as a line of text on your marker. If you delimet tags, the system will take each column of to be importated as a separate tag (marker). This information can be changed at time of import. Column number uses as copies You may select a default column that will be used to identify then number of copies of a marker you wish to import. If you do not intend to import separate copies per maker, enter a 0 for the field. This information can be changed at time of import. 21

Import Auto Overwrite on import - If you wish to automatically overwrite an import file that has already been created, check this check box. When you have this check box checked, you will not be asked if you wish to overwrite an existing file during imports, it will happen automatically. Import SumiMark I/II files in folder you are importing from - If you wish to convert older versions of the SumiMark files (SumiMark I or SumiMark II) into the same folder as the older files are, check this box. Import Excel files Import Multiple product excel spreadsheets - If you have a spreadsheet that has information for Multiple product sizes (1/8, 3/16 and 1/4) and have it formated properly, check this box. To look up the format required to import Multiple product size spreadsheets, see the import section within the User s Manual or press F1 at any point within the software. Column no. to use as copies - If you have a spreadsheet that has a specific column to identify the number of copies of a marker to print, you can specify this column as the "Column no. to use as copies". Number of rows to exclude - If you are importing a spreadsheet that has header information, you will want to exclude those header rows from the import. This is the number of the header rows you wish to exclude from the import. The rows are counted fromt he 1st down ot the number of rows you wish to exclude. You can not choose to exclude specific rows. One Column with multiple lines - If you have a column in a spreadsheet that has multiple lines of marker information, check this box. Line Info. Column Number If you select the "One Column with multiple lines" option above, you will be asked to identify this column in your spreadsheet that has the marker information. Import Path Tab Ascii/Delim Path - You may pre-select the path that the system will use to import Ascii and Deilimted files from the disk or network. Excel Path - You may pre-select the path that the system will use to import Excel files from the disk or network. Sumi I/II Path - You may pre-select the path that the system will use to import SumiMark I and SumiMark II files from the disk or network. Printing and Path Tab Printer - This pulldown list box is a list of all of the available printers you have loaded on your system. Select the Sumitomo SumiMark IV printer as your default printer. 22

RFID Port - This pulldown list box is a list of serial (Com) ports your system may have. Select the serial (Com) port that your system will use to connect to the SumiMark IV printer. This will usually be Com1 port, but your computer port may be different. Printer Port Type - There are two communication types available for printing with the SumiMark IV printer - Parallel and Ethernet (TCP/IP). Select the port comunication type you wish to use for your SumiMark printer. Parallel Port - If you have selected the Parallel communication type, a list of Parallel ports will be displayed. Select the Parallel (LPT) port that your system will use to connect to the SumiMark printer (This will usually be LPT1:). Ethernet (TCP/IP) Port If you have selected the Ethernet communication type, a default IP address must be manually entered. Enter in the IP address that you will be using to comunicate with your SumiMark printer. This will usually be 192.0.0.192. To save above options, click Accept button. To close this page, click on the Exit button. III. Creating and Printing Wire Lists Creating a Wire List Click on the Create Wire List icon, or Click on Wire List>Create a New Wire List drop down menu. Enter a file Name, to be used by the software to save this wire list under. The Description field is optional, however it is very convenient for differentiating between similar file names. Now specify the Special Features, Sleeve, Font and Alignment information. Starting with the special features, click to check if you wish Landscape printing, Variable Length Printed markers or Auto Length markers. Next enter the Sleeve information, Type, Color, Size and Length of the product you wish to print on. Now enter the Font information you wish to printed with, Font Name, Font Style, Point Size and Number of Lines. Finally, enter the Alignment information, Horizontal and Vertical. Many of these options can be set as defaults in the Tools>Default Settings window. 23

At the conclusion of this window, you will have created a wire list file in which to store your markers. The next step is to enter marker data for your wire list. Clicking on Accept button will save this wire list to the designated folder then bring up the Marker Entry window. You will notice at the top of the marker entry window's right side, the current wire list data path name is displayed. Also on the top right side of the window, your wire list's sleeve and font information is displayed. The number of markers you have created within this wire list is displayed in the far right hand top corner of the Marker Entry Window. This will start at zero. Printing a Wire List At the Marker Printing window, enter the following. The Marker Range, by default this will be set to print the entire wire list. If you wish to print fewer markers than the indicated number, change the beginning and ending marker numbers you wish to have printed. You should check to see that you will be printing to the correct printer with the correct product, by checking the information at the bottom of the window. The manner and sequence of printing the markers from this wire list may be chosen in the Copies to be Printed and Backward options. By default, one copy of each marker will be printed. You may choose to print multiple copies of markers by changing the number of copies to be printed. Small positioning changes in the placement of the printed text may be made by adjusting the Left and Top Margins on the Marker Printing Window. A negative number adjusts text to the left for Left Margin and upward for the Top Margin. The Print Advanced button must be used if printing markers with graphics or bar codes. The Printer Setup button allows you to change various printer settings. Details on these settings are covered in the Setting Changes to Printer Driver section. 24
