Chapter 1 Deploying Document Image Services This chapter describes how to deploy Document Image Services, which provides support for image-oriented documents and is designed to support a wide range of third-party viewers. You can deploy the Document Image Services module with TaskSpace or with another application that uses the WDK Image viewer control. Note: Repositories from releases older than 6.0 are not supported with the Document Image Services software. The following describes the steps required to deploy Document Image Services: To deploy Document Image Services: 1. Before you begin deployment, consider whether you want to deploy Document Image Services with or without TaskSpace. Planning deployment, page 8 provides information about deployment scenarios, image viewer scenarios, and image viewer comparisons. 2. Install Documentum prerequisites and prepare the Documentum environment. Documentum prerequisites, page 11 provides information on how to prepare the Documentum environment. 3. In Documentum Administrator, create a user and give it the EMC Documentum administrator or superuser privilege level. This is required for DAR installations. For instructions, refer to the Documentum Administrator User Guide. 4. Install the required DARs to the repository or repositories that will be used with Document Image Services: a. Install the Documentum Composer DAR Installer Plug-in zip file. For instructions, refer to Installing the DAR Installer, page 11. b. Install the Document Image Services DAR using the DAR Installer. If any problems occur, refer to Chapter 2, Troubleshooting Document Image Services deployment. Planning deployment Before you begin deployment, consider whether you want to deploy Document Image Services with or without TaskSpace. Table 1. Deployment scenarios Deployment scenario TaskSpace Description The TaskSpace module simplifies tasks through a streamlined user interface with built-in image operations. TaskSpace is specifically designed for users who have to perform a large number of tasks, and who have to find documents and folders in very large repositories. For instructions on deploying TaskSpace, refer to the Documentum TaskSpace Deployment Guide. 8 EMC Documentum Document Image Services Version 6.5 Deployment Guide

Deploying Document Image Services Deployment scenario Document Image Services Both Description The Document Image Services module provides support for image-oriented documents and is designed to support a wide range of document image viewers. The Document Image Services module can be deployed with TaskSpace or with another application that uses the WDK Image viewer control. If you deploy both Document Image Services and TaskSpace, TaskSpace features include an image viewer, annotation support for Daeja ViewOne Pro and IGC Brava!, and page serving for PDF and TIFF files. (Page serving does not apply to secure PDF files.) The image viewers are installed separately. Also consider image viewer setup. Table 2. Image viewer scenarios Image viewer scenario UCF Image viewers Description If you deploy TaskSpace without Document Image Services, documents are displayed using Unified Client Facilities (UCF) technology. This means that TaskSpace opens each document using an association of file types to programs. For example, if a TaskSpace user displays an image, the document might open in Microsoft Paint. When UCF opens a file, it uses the file-program association from the client operating system. For more information on UCF, refer to the Web Development Kit and Client Applications Development Guide. If you deploy both Document Image Services and TaskSpace and you want to include image viewers in your deployment, you can install Adobe Acrobat Reader, PAS, OpenOffice, Daeja ViewOne Pro, or IGC Brava!.
