SECTION 01 1 System overview The ACTpro Hub is a controller for the elock access control system. It can control up to 32 elock doors and manages the access rights for up to 60,000 cardholders, deciding what doors they are allowed to access. The elock access control system consists of: ACTpro Hub, ACTpro elock door lock, ACT Enterprise PC software for configuration and monitoring When a cardholder presents their card to the elock, the card information is sent to the Hub over a wireless link. The Hub checks the access rights for the card holder and sends a message back to the elock, allowing or denying access. The Hub communicates door status conditions and warnings to the ACT Enterprise PC software over TCP/IP. The elock system is completely compatible with the ACTpro product range. The Hub can be powered from either PoE (Power-over- Ethernet IEEE 802.3af) or directly from a 12V DC power supply. 1.1 ACTpro elock The ACTpro elock is a battery-powered electromechanical lock. It has been designed to replace existing door handles and furniture on doors, giving card-based access control throughout the building. A proximity reader (125 khz or MIFARE, depending on the model) is housed in the front escutcheon. The battery is housed in the back escutcheon on the secure side of the door. The elock battery can be expected to operate up to 200,000 times or 5 years before needing replacement. In the event of a totally flat battery, connect a laptop to the elock USB port on the front escutcheon. The ACTpro elock model supports ACTRFID and HID 125 khz proximity technologies. The ACTpro elock MF model supports MIFARE Classic and MIFARE DESFire EV1 technologies. 1.2 ACT Enterprise PC Software The ACT Enterprise software is used to configure, maintain and monitor the access control system The software provides a number of different clients based on the user s role. ACT Install: is used by security installation professionals to configure access control hardware, controllers and doors. ACT Manage: is for system administrators to manage the access rights of card holders. ACT Monitor: is used by security guards to view and manage alarm events. (ACT Monitor is not available in ACT Enterprise Lite version) 1

1.3 System Diagram An example of an elock and ACTpro1500 access control system is shown below. It consists of one Hub, with 4 elocks, 2 ACTpro1500s and a PC running the ACT Enterprise software. The system is completely extendable up to 4,000 doors with additional elocks, Hubs and ACTpro 1500s. If more cardholders are required, the ACTpro4000 may be used instead of the ACTpro1500. Note: The ACTpro 1500 / 1520 Controllers is NOT interoperable with other ACTpro controllers (ACTpro 2000/3000/3200/4000/4200). 2

SECTION 02 2 Configuration Guide There are 4 steps to install and configure a basic ACTpro elock access control system. 1. Hub installation 2. elock installation 3. ACT Enterprise software configuration 4. Access control system configuration 2.1 Hub Installation 2.1.1 Powering Hubs ACT recommends installing and powering up the Hubs before installing any elocks. When the elocks are powered up, they will try to contact the Hubs. The Hub may be powered from either a: PoE IEEE802.3af source with battery back-up +12V, 1Amp source with battery back-up Note: The simultaneous use of +12Vdc and PoE is possible. The Hub will source its power from the +12Vdc supply. To default the Hub, see the Hub Defaulting section later in the manual. By default, the Hub is set for DHCP mode. 2.1.2 Hub Group: The Hub Group is responsible for managing the 32 elocks in its Group. For fault-tolerance and highreliability, ACT allows up to four Hubs in a Hub group. If the wireless signal is poor to one Hub, the elock may connect with another Hub in the Group that has a better signal with no loss of functionality. In most cases, with careful consideration of the site layout and a comprehensive site survey, one Hub per Hub Group is sufficient. The address of the Hub is set by the dipswitch. All Hubs in the same Hub Group have the same address. Warning: The Hub Group address should not conflict with the addresses of any ACT4000 or ACT1500 controllers on the system. The Hub Group Address is set by the dipswitch as a binary number. Each of the 8 dipswitches has the following numeric value: Dipswitch Value 1 128 2 64 3 32 4 16 5 8 6 4 7 2 8 1 Examples: To set the address to 1, set dipswitch 8 ON and the rest OFF. To set the address to 3, set dipswitches 7 and 8 ON (2+1=3) and the rest OFF. To set the address to 25, set dipswitches 4, 5, and 8 ON (16+8+1=25) and the rest OFF. 3

To set the address to 99, set dipswitches 2, 3, 7 and 8 ON (64+32+2+1=99) and the rest OFF. To set the address to 145, set dipswitches 1, 4 and 8 ON (128+16+1=145) and the rest OFF. 2.1.3 Locating Hubs ACT recommends a site survey be conducted prior to installation to determine the optimum position for the Hubs. The ACT site survey test wand is available for this purpose. In general: Locate the Hubs away from metal surfaces and electrical sources. Position Hubs at ceiling height and in a central location relative to the elocks. The wireless signal will be affected by dense objects such as brick walls or metal surfaces. Decide which elocks will be in each Hub Group on the basis of proximity with other elocks. Locate Hubs that are in the same Hub Group in different locations so if one experiences RF interference, the other Hubs still will be able to communicate with the elock. To provide redundancy, each elock should be able to communicate with at least two Hubs in its Hub Group. 2.2 ACTpro elock Installation Install the elock as per the installation instruction sheet supplied with the elock. Important: Remember to note the RF MAC address of the elock. This will be required for ACT Enterprise software configuration. After power up, the elock will look for Hubs to communicate with. If it has no Hub Group assigned, the door will go into free access mode. It will remain in this mode until the ACT Enterprise software configuration is completed, and a Hub Group has been assigned to the elock. 2.3 Configure ACTpro elock with ACT Enterprise Software 2.3.1 Manually add ACTpro elock Hubs To add a Hub, ensure it has a unique Hub Group address (see section 2.1.2 Hub Group). From ACTinstall select the Advanced Setup then Controller/Hubs Groups menu. On the top right select Add Hub Group. 2.3.1.1 General Tab: Name: Enter a name to describe the Hub Group.
