Further information 1 Vehicle Activation The vehicles can be activated online. Under /activate, you can find a correspondingly prepared template which you should fill in. The activation of the vehicles is the prerequisite for the application of FleetBoard and of the FleetBoard Clients. 2 Log-on to the FleetBoard System The FleetBoard Clients are found in the FleetBoard system. To access the system, you have to log on. You will receive your login data with the following documents: Fleet Name: The fleet name is specified in the contract affirmation document, which we will send you via postal delivery. User: We will send you an e-mail with your user name, the so-called Customer Admin User. Password: You will receive your password in a separate e-mail, which we will send you 1 or 2 days later. Page 1 of 10
As soon as you have received your complete login data, you are able to log on to the FleetBoard system. Via the URL http:///info/en, you will get to a login mask (see Figure1). Figure 1: Start-up page /info/en, with login mask 3 Overview of the Services which Require a Java-based Client After logging on, the services which you have booked will be displayed in an overview. Figure 2 shows all available services. The services which require a client are marked with red frames. Figure 2: Service overview, with all available services. The services which are marked require a Java-based client. 4 Installation of the FleetBoard Clients The FleetBoard Clients can be installed in two different ways: either via Java Webstart or by means of the installers. Up to now, Java Webstart has been the only option to install the clients. With effect of April 2012, we can offer you the option to use an installer for this purpose. Customers using the Webstart Clients are recommended to switch over to the use of installers for the following reasons: Page 2 of 10
Significant reduction of the initial start-up time of the FleetBoard Clients Selection of installation parameters (e.g. installation directory) No time-consuming server synchronization of profile data required, since user-related data can also be saved locally Installation dates and times can be selected individually. The proxy settings of the Internet Explorer can be taken over (is of particular relevance to working in Citrix environments). Integration of a life cycle management for the installers Installer can be rolled out over the network in centralized mode. 4.1 Installation with Java Webstart, Example "Mapping" To install the clients you require, please click on the corresponding service. A pop-up window is opened (see Figure 3). Click the OK button. Figure 3: Pop-up window to save the client Page 3 of 10
The loading of the application is started automatically. The download window of the client is displayed (see Figure 4). Figure 4: Splash screen of the client download If the client was downloaded successfully, it has to be started by clicking on the corresponding service once more (see Figure 2). The client mask is opened without a renewed entry of the login data (single sign-on). If the login mask of the client is displayed instead, a proxy server will be used in your company in the majority of all cases. You then have to enter the name and port of the proxy server in the Settings window (see Figure 5 and Chapter 6). Figure 5: Client with login mask and the Settings window The installation of the client via Java Webstart also creates a desktop link and an entry in the start-up menu. If you start the client via one of these two links, you have to log on by entering your login data into the login mask of the client in all cases. Page 4 of 10
4.1.1 Digital Signature When starting the client, you may be requested to confirm the digital signature. A dialog box is displayed which shows the warning message The application s digital signature cannot be verified. Do you want to run the application? Please check the Always trust content from this publisher option and confirm the signature by clicking the Run button. Figure 6: Dialog box referring to the digital signature 4.1.2 Query of the Installation Directory for Clients If a new client has been downloaded successfully, a dialog box to change the installation directory will be displayed after the initial start-up. In the normal case, click No. As a result, the installation will be performed in the user directory. Only experienced users and system administrators should change the installation directory. 4.2 Installation of the FleetBoard Clients with Installer The following steps describe the installation process of the FleetBoard Clients by means of the installer. 1. Language selection for the installer: The language selection made here is only valid for the installation process. If you start the client for the first time, you will be asked for the language setting for the clients. 2. Uninstallation of older versions: If the client has already been installed on these computers, you can uninstall these versions in the course of the installation process. Page 5 of 10
If you select Yes, the existing installation will be removed. If you select No, the existing installation will not be dealt with and the installation process will be continued in normal mode. If you select Cancel, the installation will be cancelled at this point and the previous status will be maintained on the computer. In the normal case, you should always select Yes. If you select No, we urgently recommend to create a new installation directory in Step 4. 3. Personal Data Directory: Here, you can select one out of two options. a. Default: This option should always be selected for multi-user systems, since the user data directories of the FleetBoard Clients are selected in accordance to the Windows standard in this case. b. Select folder: Here, you have the option to specify the directory for the user data explicitly. In this case, environment variables are not supported. For this reason, all users using the client on this computer will have the same user data directory. Page 6 of 10
4. Select Destination Location: Here, you specify the folder in which the application is to be installed. 5. Select Start Menu Folder: You can choose whether you wish to create a start menu entry and where this entry will be stored. 6. Select Additional Tasks: Here, you can create a desktop link. Page 7 of 10
7. Subsequently, the selected options will be displayed once again in summarized form. 8. Delete settings and logs: If the client has already been installed on this computer and if you have answered the uninstallation query with Yes at the beginning, you will now be asked whether you also want to delete all settings of the previous version, as well. Click No if you wish to maintain the logs and settings of the previous version. General issues: The client is started from the installation folder (Point 3) via the eclipse.bat batch file. If you require special adaptations of the installation (e.g. other environment variable for user data directories), you can make these changes here. Moreover, the installer contains its own Java Runtime Environment, which does not have to be specially installed. It is only used by the installed client. As a result, the installation of Java Environment is not necessary on your computers (see Point 5). 5 System Requirements (Java, Browser, Proxy, Ports) Prior to the installation, please check the hardware system requirements. To be able to use the FleetBoard services in an optimal manner, FleetBoard recommends to comply with the system requirements described under /info/en/system-requirements.html. You can have your system checked online under /check/check_en.html. 5.1 Java for Webstart The required Java version by Oracle can be downloaded from the following page: www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/index.html. To do this, you have to register, which is free of charge. Please check whether an Oracle Java 1.6.0_26 32-bit version has already been installed. On Windows 7 computers, a Java 1.6.0_26 64-bit version can also be installed alternatively. If this is the case, please uninstall the Oracle Java 1.6.0_26 64-bit version and install the Oracle Java 1.6.0_26 32-bit version. 5.2 Java for the Installer As described under Point 4, you do not have to install Java in this case. Moreover, you do not have to uninstall a 64-bit Java version, since the installer is delivered with its own Java version, which will be used automatically by the clients. Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0_26 32 bit is delivered. It is possible that after the initial start of the client a local firewall (e.g. Zonealarm or Windows Firewall) requests that you activate the client for the Internet. Page 8 of 10
NOTE: shall not be held responsible for problems occurring as a result of the installation of Oracle Java and of the FleetBoard Clients. For this reason, please check in advance: 1. which effects the installation of the Oracle Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0_26 32-bit version and of the FleetBoard Clients will have on your computers. 2. whether the application of other programs with Oracle Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0_26 32-bit version still works. 6 Exemplary Configuration of a Proxy The configuration of a proxy at the FleetBoard Mapping Client will be explained in the following as an example. If you are using a proxy server in your company, this server must be entered into the FleetBoard Client. To do this, click on the Settings icon in the login mask of the client (see Figure 5, red frames). A pop-up window with entry fields is opened. Check the Proxy option and enter the host name (or the IP address) and the port of your proxy server. Click Apply and then OK to confirm the proxy settings. 7 Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs The following sections discuss the most frequent problems and their solutions. I cannot find the user data of the FleetBoard Clients. The installation directory is selected in dependence on the environment variables. If the LOCALAPPDATA folder (Windows Vista and higher) exists on the computer, the directory stored there will be used. If it does not exist, the APPDATA folder will be used. In this folder, a fleetboard folder will be created. The user data of the FleetBoard Clients will be stored there. Mapping does not display any maps. If the Mapping service does not display any maps, you should check your port and proxy server. As described under Point 6, go to Settings and check the entries under Proxy. The client cannot be started. If the client cannot be started even though you have clicked on it several times, the Java version has to be checked. Please note that starting the client takes some time. Please wait for a longer period of time when the Oracle Java logo is displayed. The installation and client download windows are not displayed (only valid for Webstart Clients). If neither the installation, nor the download window is displayed, please check the firewall settings. Possibly, the firewall filters out JNLP files. JNLP files are Java Webstart files, which the FleetBoard Clients can download and call via JNLP (Java Network Launching Protocol). Page 9 of 10
Error message Link could not be created is displayed. If the error message Link could not be created is displayed, this may be due to the fact that the computer does not have the necessary rights. Under Windows 7, the user must have the authorization to access the desktop directory to create a link on the desktop. The installation of the client is not affected by this. 8 Usage of CITRIX Products You are using a virtualization technology, such as Citrix Xen? When using virtualization technologies, programs such as Microsoft Word are not directly installed on the PC, but are started via an application on the server. The user interface is then transferred to your PC. In this case, we recommend using the installer version of the FleetBoard Clients. This improves the start-up speed of the client. In addition, user-related data can be saved locally (this makes time-consuming server synchronization unnecessary). If you are using a virtualization technology in your company for your desktop computers or workstations, please inform your administrator and forward the system requirements for the FleetBoard Clients to him. If the administrator has problems when installing the FleetBoard Clients, please contact the FleetBoard Support under +49 (0)711 17 91 999. 9 Further Information If any of your questions is not answered by the Quick Start Guide installation wizard, please contact the FleetBoard Support under +49 (0)711 17 91 999.
