CHAPTER 1 OVERVIEW About Plan2Nav Jeppesen s Plan2Nav for ios is the ultimate navigation and planning tool designed for boaters with a true passion for being on the water. Demo your coverage area with a free 3-day trial map, download the enhanced base map or start planning your journey with the in-app purchase of a detailed C-MAP chart. Free App Features The Plan2Nav for ios app includes several free features allowing you immediate access to cruising and planning. CHAPTER 2 INSTALLATION Plan2Nav can be downloaded from the App Store or from itunes using your MAC or PC. Installing Plan2Nav from itunes 1. Open itunes Store and click on App Store. 2. Type Plan2Nav in search store field then select Jeppesen Marine Plan2Nav. 3. Select Download. 4. The completed download will be listed in itunes under Store > Downloads. 5. Plan2Nav will appear on your device after syncing. For details on how to sync, click here. Installing Plan2Nav from the App Store 1. From the device s App Store, tap the search field and type Plan2Nav. Select Jeppesen Marine Plan2Nav for the specified device. 2. Tap Free and then Install. 3. A Plan2Nav icon will appear on the devices HOME screen. Launching Plan2Nav 1. Tap on the Plan2Nav icon to open. 2. The first time you use Plan2Nav, you will be prompted to ACCEPT the End User License Agreement If you chose to DECLINE, Plan2Nav will automatically close. You must review and accept to continue. Account Registration To download free trial maps, demo charts or full detailed C-MAP by Jeppesen charts within Plan2nav, you will first need to register the device with the C-MAP Web Store. 1. From main tool bar, tap on to expand the full menu bar then select Register. 2. Existing Accounts - Enter your E-mail and Password, then select Login. 3. New Accounts- Select Create a New Account or login with Facebook. 4. Enter a valid e-mail and password, then Create Account. 5. An activation e-mail will be sent the registered e-mail address. To complete registration, open the e- mail from Jeppesen Marine Web Store and click on the activation URL. At this time, you can choose to add credit card and billing details to the account. 6. How to Sync itunes Chart Purchases Starting with Plan2Nav version v1.5.0, it is possible to share chart purchases on both ios and Android platforms. If you have previously purchased charts for Plan2nav through itunes, then you will need to register your device on the C-MAP Web Store in order to sync your itunes chart purchases. 1. From main Plan2Nav tool bar, tap on to expand the full menu bar then select Register. 2. New Accounts- Select Create a New Account or login with Facebook. Enter a valid e-mail and password, then Create Account. 3. Once the Web Store account has been created, the PURCHASE TRANSFER (A) option will appear. A Select YES, to sync itunes with the Web Store. 4. Insert itunes password (B) then select OK. Note: You must use the same itunes account details that were originally used to purchase charts. B 5. CHAPTER 3 Buy Charts Plan2Nav WEBSTORE enables you to view and purchase detailed charts for select regions. Access free base/trial maps and purchased charts from the YOUR MAPS menu. About A. A Wi-Fi or 3G connection is necessary for downloading charts. Note: downloading via your cellular connection could be slow and costly, as chart files can top 500 MB. B. C-MAP charts for Plan2Nav can be purchased in-app only. C. Chart downloads can be paused and continued later. D. Downloads could take up to 30 minutes to complete, depending on connection speed and file size. E. During your download, a progress bar will show the remaining percentage until download is complete. F. Installed charts are accessible even when a wireless connection is not available. G. Chart purchases can be shared between three android or ios devices. H. Existing chart purchases can be updated at 50% off retail. About Free Trial Map The free trail map option lets you demo your coverage area before purchasing. 1. Only one free trial is available, so pick carefully. 2. Trial maps last 3 days. All coverage detail will disappear at the end of the trial. 3. How to Buy, Update or Demo C-MAP Charts 1. From Plan2Nav tool bar, select WebStore. 2. Go to the Maps Catalog. 3. Locate charts by region by selecting Area or choose Search (A) to locate by name. 4. Once the desired chart has been selected, choose Buy (B) or Buy Update*. *BUY UPDATE appears when a previous version of the chart has already been purchased. Updates are discounted 50%. 5. Select from: B A 3-day free chart demo Charts valid for phone only Charts valid for tablet or shared between phone & tablet 6. Tap Buy to perform payment. Quick Tip: Use the info icon to view additional map detail, list of official hydrographic charts and release dates. Your Apple itunes Store account will be used to execute payment. How to Install C-MAP Charts 1. From Plan2Nav toolbar, select Your Maps. Your Maps menu will display ON THE CLOUD (A) and ON THE DEVICE (B). A B (A) On the Cloud Displays purchased & free demo charts available for download (B) On the Device Displays charts installed on the device 2. Under ON THE CLOUD (A), select Download to start the chart installation to the device. 3. The chart will move under ON THE DEVICE (B) and the download will start automatically. 4. CHAPTER 5 FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS Map Actions Plan2Nav uses the standard pinch-zoom functionality for zooming in/out and panning of the map. When first launched, the default view is north-up. To adjust the chart s view, use the following on-screen gestures: Pan Pan the chart by placing one finger on the screen and dragging in the desired direction. Zoom In Zoom in by placing two fingers on the screen and pulling them apart, in the area of interest. Zoom Out Zoom out by placing two fingers on the screen and pulling them together, in the area of interest. Two-Finger Rotation Change the chart s orientation [ROTATE] by placing two fingers on the screen and moving in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion. Function is disabled when C-Weather is overlaid. Two-Finger Tilt Change the charts perspective [TILT] by placing two fingers on the screen and moving up or down in parallel. Function is disabled when C-Weather is overlaid. Double Tap A quick double tap on the screen will return the map to the default north-up 2D view and allow for a quick zoom-in when in the 2D/north-up mode. Questions? Email: plan2nav@jeppesen.com 10
Quick Info Plan2Nav's quick info menu will display your locations coordinates and the distance from GPS (when GPS is active). Quick Info also allows you to bookmark your favorite locations and view detailed map information, including: photos, marina info, nav-aids, source data, depths, restricted areas, tidal height and much more. Tap on any point on the map to access the Quick Info menu then choose from: Map Info (A) - access object details within the clicked location. Add to Favorites (B) bookmark your favorite points. A B The Quick Info menu can be moved by dragging the window box or click X to close. Map Info Map Info will display your locations coordinates and provide details about items on map. Map Info is accessible from the Quick Info menu. 1. Tap your desired point on the map to launch the Quick Info Menu. 2. Tap the blue arrow next to Map Info then continue expanding additional cartographic detail by tapping blue arrow next to the desired object. 3. Map Info continued Additional Map Info features include: Multimedia Content Multimedia content will display panoramic photos. Photos can be magnified using the zoom in/out functionality of Plan2Nav. ipad users can double click an image to view in Full Screen. Tide Height Tide Height station content is displayed graphically with a view of the tidal station s tide height. It includes predictions for: High/Low Water Sunrise/Sunset Moonrise/Moonset Begin/End Twilight Click on the arrow next to the date to change the date of predicted Tide Height station. Questions? Add to Favorites Add to Favorites allows you to bookmark your favorite points on the map. It is accessible from the Quick Info menu. 1. To bookmark a location or point on the map, click on the map and select Add to Favorites. 2. Set Name (A) -short text and Description (B) extended text of favorite. Change color of favorite icon by tapping the marker icon and select from five different icon colors. 3. Click Save (C) to add your new favorite icon to the map. C B A Note: A NAME value is required to save a favorite icon. Unless they are deleted, favorite icons are always visible on the map view and cannot be hidden. Questions? Managing Favorites Access the Favorites menu by tapping the favorite icon on the map or by going to Search/Go to > Favorites from the main tool bar. In addition to providing the favorite icon s name, description, coordinates and creation date, the favorites menu also features the following functions: Edit Change favorite icon name, description or color. Navigate to Starts the navigation mode, favorite icon is the destination. View on map Map will center on the favorite icon. Delete Favorite 1. Select Search/Go To > Favorites. 2. Navigation Mode Set your destination using GPS through Plan2Nav s Navigation Mode. Navigate to point on the map: Click the destination on the map > select Map Info > Go To. Navigate to map object: Click on the map object > select Map Info > choose object > Go To. Select Search/Go To > Nearby Objects or Text Search > choose object > Go To. Navigate to coordinates: Click on Search/Go To > Coordinates > enter coordinates > Go To. Navigate to a favorite marker: Select Search/Go To > Favorites > tap blue arrow next to favorite > Navigate To. Navigate to a route: Select Search/Go To > Route > Route Points > click on route point. Navigation Mode continued The active navigation mode will display: A. Destination Tool Bar (with coordinates of destination point) B. On-Screen Compass C. Red Navigation Line (from GPS location to destination) A C B While in navigation mode, the on-screen compass will display the following data fields (note: some fields will show N/A until GPS fix is retrieved): DST Distance to selected destination ETA Estimated time of arrival, based on avg. speed BRG Bearing of vessel in degrees (Green Marker) COG* Course Over Ground, based on the device s GPS *COG is not available if GPS data is available or more accurate or if vessel is not moving. GPS Plan2Nav offers four GPS modes: OFF, ON, TRACK and TRACK ROUTE. Switch modes by tapping on GPS from the main tool bar. The GPS icon will change to display the specific GPS mode. GPS OFF Default mode GPS ON When highlighted GPS TRACK Map will move, based on GPS location GPS TRACK & ROUTE Map will move, based on heading When the GPS is ON, the on-screen compass will display the following data fields: SOG Speed Over Ground, based on the device s GPS COG Course Over Ground, based on the device s GPS Questions? Search/ Go To Quickly access map detail and saved data using Plan2Nav s Search/Go To feature. Search/Go To is accessible from the main tool bar and provides access to the following search features: Coordinates Navigate to specified coordinates. Nearby Objects Find the nearest object by category. The search radius is five KM from center of map. ORA/PORT Text Find the nearest object by text. The search radius is 10 nautical miles (18,520 meters) from the center of the map. Favorites View, edit, go to and delete saved favorites. GPS Tracks View, edit, go to, share and delete saved tracks. C-Weather Easily download weather overlay in Plan2Nav. The Weather overlay provides a four day forecast covering a one-by-one degree area that can be downloaded as often as necessary. 1. Go to desired location on the map and click on Weather Icon (A) from the main toolbar. A D B C 2. Select Download (B). Once download has finished, the weather forecast will overlay on the chart. 3. Select Forecast (C) to change the type of weather displayed on the chart. Weather Types include: Wind, Wave, Weather, Humidity and Temperature. 4. Use the slider (D) to change the forecasted date and time. 5. Turn ON/OFF with Note: A connection is necessary for C-Weather downloads. Only one region can be downloaded at a time. Chart Plotter Link The Chart Plotter Link feature is compatible with Standard Horizon CPN series chart plotters and when activated, Plan2Nav will remotely display the chart plotter s screen. This feature is supported starting with Plan2Nav version 1.3.1 and CPN 700i and 1010i chart plotters using software version 2.2.2.210 or higher. To set up Chart Plotter Link, follow the steps below in order: Standard Horizon CPN chart plotter 1. Launch CPN chart plotter and choose Plotter mode. 2. Press the info key. 3. Select P2N Link (A) and choose CPN Wi-Fi (B) then close. A B Mobile Device - Plan2nav 4. Go to the devices Settings and select Wi-Fi (C). C 5. Tap on the CPN 700i or CPN1010i network connection to activate the Wi-Fi link with the CPN (D). D 6. Open Plan2Nav and tap Chart Plotter Link (E). Chart Plotter Link continued 7. Plan2Nav will display an image of the CPN chart plotter screen once a connection has been established. Chart Plotter Link Screen Options SEARCH Establishes the connection between the CPN chart plotter and Plan2nav. PLAY Displays the CPN chart plotter screen once a connection has been made. 1:1 Displays the image based on the dimensions of the CPN chart plotter FIT TO SCREEN Enlarges the CPN chart plotter image. X Closes the Chart Plotter Link function Chart Plotter Link only works when the CPN chart plotter is running in the Plotter mode. CPN s Internet, Media Player, Connection Manager and Calibration screens are not repeated. Plan2Nav does not allow for control of the chart plotter through the Chart Plotter Link function. Only one CPN chart plotter can be linked at a time. Additional features and functions of Plan2nav are inaccessible when using the Chart Plotter Link feature. Track The track functionality in Plan2Nav allows for saving and sharing of your track files. Track detail includes: Start/End Location, Time, Duration, Distance and Speed. Track functionality is accessible from the main tool bar. 1. Start tracking by clicking Track from the main tool bar. 2. To finishing tracking, click Track again and select YES to the message Do you want to stop Tracking? 3. After stopping the track, the option to save will appear. To save, select YES or NO to cancel. 4. Tracks files will be saved to Plan2Nav under Search/Go To > GPS Track and to the itunes file sharing folder. Manage Tracks Manage track files in Plan2Nav by going to Search/Go To from the main tool bar and selecting GPS Track. Rename Track Select track file > Edit > enter/change name > select Done. Set Visibility of Track on Map Select track file > Visible (turn on ON or OFF). Display Track location on Map Select track file > click Search. Measure Use Plan2Nav s measuring feature to determine the distance and bearing between two points. Measure is accessible from main tool bar. 1. Turn measuring on by selecting Measure from main tool bar. GPS will be automatically activated and a green distance line (A) will appear. 2. Move each point to the desired location to display DST = DISTANCE (B) and BRG = BEARING (C). 3. While measure mode is active, multiple locations can be measured by clicking points on map. 4. Route Plan2Nav s route function lets you create, edit, save and share your favorite routes. Route is accessible from the main tool bar. Create/Edit Route: 1. Tap on Route from main tool bar. If a route already exists, then the option to Edit Last Route or Add New Route will appear. Select appropriate option. 2. Place points along your route by tapping on the map. The route tool bar located at top of screen allows you to: Clear deletes entire route Clear Last Point deletes last route point 3. End the route by selecting Route or X from the route tool bar. 4. Individual waypoints in the route can be added, moved or deleted. Insert - Tap desired location in route leg. Move - Tap waypoint to display X, drag pin to move. Delete - Tap waypoint to display X, press to delete. Manage Routes Manage Route files in Plan2Nav by going to Search/Go To from the main tool bar and selecting Route. Rename Route Select route file > Edit > enter/change route name > Done. Set Route Visibility Select route file > Visible > turn ON or OFF. View Route Points Select route file > Route Points. Settings Plan2Nav s settings menu provides access to unit settings, application details and the restore content feature. Access Settings from the main tool bar and then choose from: Map Background Overlay Apple Maps and Satellite images onto detailed C-MAP charts. A Wi-Fi connection is needed to overlay Apple Maps and Satellite. C-MAP Charts - No overlay. Apple Hybrid - Apple map and satellite overlays. Apple Map - Apple map overlay only. Apple Satellite - Apple satellite overlay only. Map Details Adjust map details to display as FULL or BASIC. The basic setting disables Land features (natural, cultural, rivers, lakes and landmarks) and Tracks & Routes. Unit Settings Unit Settings options include: Depth Meters, Feet or Fathoms Distance Km, NM or Miles Coordinates DD.dddd, DD:MM:SS or DD:MM.mmmm Speed Km/h, MPH, M/S or Knots Temperature Celsius or Fahrenheit Fuel Consumption L/H or GPH News E-Mail Sign up to receive the latest news and updates for Plan2Nav by entering your e-mail then select I agree. Jeppesen will keep your details confidential. Transfer itunes Purchases Use this feature to restore charts previously purchased through itunes. See page 8 for more detailed instructions. Questions? Multi-Language Plan2Nav ios supports Jeppesen s Multi-Language feature which allows C-MAP vector charts to be viewed in both English and the local language. Multi-Language is offered for the following local languages: English Italian Chinese Japanese Danish Korean Dutch Norwegian French Portuguese German Spanish Greek Swedish The Multi-language feature is based on the language set within the device. To change your devices language settings go to: Settings General International Language then choose one of the supported Multilanguages. Plan2Nav will display the local language for chart names, objects and menu settings. NOTE: The presentation of multi-language charts depends solely on the source data. If the original source chart was available in the local language then the digitized version will also be available in the local language, otherwise the chart will appear in English. Anchor Drift Activate or deactivate the anchor drift alarm by selecting Anchor Drift from the main tool bar. When Anchor Drift is activated, an audio alarm will signal if the vessels location has moved from the current GPS location; based on pre-established Anchor Drift settings. Sharing Track and Route GPX Files Plan2Nav allows for export of Track and RouteGPX files from device to PC. 1. From the main tool bar select Search/Go to. 2. Click on GPS Track or Route and then select the file to be exported. 3. Click on Export as GPX. The GPX file will be saved to your itunes file sharing folder. 4. Connect device to your computer and launch itunes. 5. Click on the connected device from the Devices section of itunes. 6. Select the Apps tab and scroll down to File Sharing. 7. Under the file sharing, select Plan2Nav. A list of saved files will be shown under Plan2Nav Documents. 8. Save to a PC by highlighting the file and selecting SAVE TO. Plan2Nav FAQs What is the cost of Plan2Nav? The Plan2Nav application is free to download. Detailed C-MAP vector charts to supplement the free world background charts can be purchased within the app. Coverage pricing can be viewed in Plan2Nav s embedded chart catalog found under BUY CHARTS. How long does it take to download Plan2Nav? Plan2Nav application downloads in less than five minutes. How long does it take to download charts? The average download time is 20min. Times will vary depending on file size and connection speed. Can I download Plan2Nav chart purchases on multiple devices? Yes. You can share chart purchases on up to three ios or Android devices. Can chart purchases be made on PC and then transferred to Plan2Nav? No. All Plan2Nav C-MAP chart purchases must be made in-app. What type of connection is required to download charts in Plan2Nav? A Wi-Fi connection is necessary. The system will not allow the data to be downloaded with only a 3G connection. Do I need wireless connection to view purchased charts? No. Once downloaded to the device, purchased charts are accessible even when a wireless connection is not available. When downloading chart data, does the device have to stay connected for the entire download? No. You can stop a download at anytime and resume at a later time/date using through YOUR MAPS. However, chart detail will not be viewable onscreen until completely downloaded to the device. When starting the application will the terms of service agreement show up each time I use the application? No, you only need to accept once. Terms of Service can be found under Settings > Legal. Will all screens work in portrait and landscape? No. Due to the size of the iphone window, some screens are viewable only in portrait and the menu bar will display arrows, indicating the availability of additional icons not shown on screen. Does Plan2Nav support an external GPS? Yes, depending on device compatibility. Some devices will allow for an external GPS connection via Bluetooth. Is Plan2Nav available for Android? Yes. Plan2Nav is also available for Android and can be downloaded from Google Play or the Amazon App Store. Chart purchases can also be shared between ios and Android devices, starting with v1.5.0. Can you change the size of icons and nav-aids within Plan2Nav? No. Is wireless connection required for C-Weather downloads? Yes. Connection is necessary to download C-Weather. Why do I get the message Download Error when downloading C-Weather? Plan2Nav requires access to port 12361. If this port is blocked, weather downloading will be unsuccessful. How can I return a purchased chart? Requests for credit can be submitted to Apple. Learn how to report a purchase problem. How do I turn Location Services ON? Location Services can be turned on from your devices Settings Menu. Go To Settings > Location Service > set Location Services and Plan2Nav ON. Will purchased charts be lost when updating Plan2Nav? No. Updates to Plan2Nav will not affect charts currently purchased and installed. However, purchased charts will be lost if the app is deleted or uninstalled.
