ABA Presidential Nomination Process Instructions The following document provides instructions for ABA members and customers to participate in the ABA Presidential Committee Nomination Process. All participants must have an ABA online account prior to getting started. Please follow the instructions below in order to self-nominate or nominate someone else for an open position within one of our Presidential committees. 1. To begin, please visit the myaba page located at http://shop.americanbar.org/ebus/myaba.aspx. 2. If you are already an ABA Member please sign in with your username and password. If you are a first time participant and not an ABA member, you must create an online Customer Account before getting started. Click the Join the ABA button located on the myaba Page to join the ABA and create an account, or click New Customer to create your on-line account. 3. Once you have successfully signed in, if necessary edit your contact information. Then click the Personal Information link on the left navigation and then click the Name and Demographics link to verify or update all your demographic information (birthdate, race and ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and disability). 1

4. Click Membership & Participation link on the left-hand navigation. 5. Additional navigational options will appear. Click the Committee Nominations link. Doing so will bring you to your Committee Nominations summary page. If you have already been involved in the nomination process, you will see a summary of your nomination selections. If this is your first time participating, this screen will be blank. 6. To begin the selection process, click the Add a New Committee Nomination link. 2

7. You will be prompted to choose whether you are nominating yourself or someone else. Self-Nominations If you have selected this option you will be nominating yourself for open Presidential Committee positions. Follow the instructions below to continue with self-nominations. 1. Step 1 will ask you to verify the current contact information we have for you on file. Please make sure your record is complete and that all demographic fields are filled out. Then click the Next button to proceed. 3

2. Step 2 will ask you to verify the current demographic information we have on file. Please fill this section out completely. Then click the Next button to proceed. 3. In Step 3, you will need to select the Entity, Committee and Position you are nominating yourself for. From the Entity List, select the appropriate entity for your desired committee (ABA Board of Governors Committees, Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice, Special Committees and Commissions or Standing Committees). To determine the entity under which your committee falls, see the List of Committees on the Presidential Appointments Website. 4

4. From the Committee List, select the Committee in which you are interested. 5

5. Once you have selected the correct Entity and Committee, the available open positions will appear in the Available Position field. Select the position you would like to nominate yourself for. 6. Please provide any supporting details within the Statement of Interest field. There is a character limit of 2000 characters. Please be sure to keep this field under this character count. Exceeding this character limit could impact your submission process. 6

7. If you are ok with your entry, click the Add to List Below link. This will add this nomination to your submission process. If you are interested in other positions, feel free to add another position by repeating steps 3-7 above. You will also notice for each nomination you include, the nomination will appear in the Pending Nominations area on the screen. NOTE: You have the option of determining the priority of each self-nomination. Use the up and down arrows to move a specific selection to your desired priority level. You may also edit or remove a pending nomination by clicking on the Edit or Remove links next to each of the self-nominations. 8. If you are ok with the current nominations, click the Next button. 9. Step 4 will allow you to upload any supporting documents to your nomination. Please do not upload any documents. The Appointments Committee will only review information you provide in the Statement of Interest. 10. Click Next. 11. Step 5 will summarize all the information you entered within the self-nomination process. This is your last chance to make any corrections prior to submission. Click the Edit button next to any of the areas needing correction. If you are ok with your entries, click the Next button. 12. You will be brought to a Thank You page indicating your submission was successful. Shortly after your submission, you should also receive a confirmation email message. 7

13. You may continue with another submission by clicking on the Submit Another Nomination button or you may go back to your MyABA page by clicking on the Go to My ABA button. Nominating Someone Else If you would like to nominate someone else for an open position, follow the instructions below. Be sure to select the Nominate someone else option to get started. 1. Step 1 will require you to locate the person you are nominating. NOTE: The person must be in the ABA system prior to locating their record. If they are not an ABA member or an existing ABA customer, they must first create an online account. They can do so by visiting http://shop.americanbar.org/ebus/myaba.aspx. 2. Once the online account is created, if you know the person s email address, enter their email address on record and click the Search button under the email address field to locate the nominee. If the search is successful, the list of available nominees will appear. Be sure to select the correct person and click the Next button. 8

NOTE: Please keep in mind if you unable to locate a nominee by email, this could be because we have an alternate email address for your nominee. You may also search on First Name, Last Name, State or Firm Organization. Enter your search criteria in any of the fields and click the right Search button to locate your nominee. If the search is successful, the list of available nominees will appear. Be sure to select the correct person and click the Next button. 9

3. Step 2, you will need to select the Entity, Committee and Position you are nominating this person for. From the Entity List, select the Entity (ABA Board of Governors Committees, Special Committees and Commissions, or Standing Committees) under which the Committee belongs. Please refer to List of Committees to determine if the committee of interest is a Standing, Special or Board of Governors Committee. 4. From the Committee List, select the Committee you are interested in nominating the person for. 5. Once you have selected the correct Entity and Committee, the available open positions will appear in the Available Position field. Select the position you would like to nominate this person for. 10

6. Please provide any supporting details within the Statement of Interest field. There is a character limit of 2000 characters. Please be sure to keep this field under this character count.
