PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 4 1 PiceaServices installation Customer will be given a specific download URL to PiceaServices installer. Installation requires administrator rights. The computer must be connected to internet during installation and usage. Before installation the language must be selected (language can be later changed from Menu: Tools > Settings...) Default installation folder is C:\ProgramData\Piceasoft\PiceaSwitch (Please note that the folder ProgramData is hidden by default) Depending on the computer and network speed the complete duration of the installation varies from 6 to 10 minutes (PiceaServices installation takes less than 1 minute; additionally the drivers installation takes from 5 to 10 minutes). The installer can be remotely started on multiple computers in different shops simultaneously by using a configuration tool PiceaConf (please contact support@piceasoft.com). The installer installs a service for "silent" driver installation.
PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 5 2 Activating PiceaServices Customers will receive an activation key. The expiry date agreed with Piceasoft will be shown. After filling in the Activation key and the Identification information, PiceaServices can be activated. It is important to write a descriptive Store name, Store ID, Address, and Region for customer specific reporting and analytics purposes.
PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 6 3 After the installation When PiceaServices starts, it opens in Home view. If only PiceaSwitch is activated, the home view is not displayed; PiceaSwitch opens directly. Connect the devices with USB cables and follow instructions on the display.
PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 7 4 PiceaSwitch in brief Preparation before content transfer: Connect devices with USB cables. Transfer direction is always from left to right Swap the source and target devices by double-clicking one of the device icons, or by clicking the Swap devices button (if necessary) It is possible to select/deselect the content types by clicking the content type icons The selected content types are highlighted If you want to select individual items, click the Select content button Start the content transfer by clicking the Start transfer button If the source device has a memory card inserted, it can be removed and placed into the target device (if it is supported). This will reduce transfer time and prevent duplicates. You can find the list of supported device platforms and content types in chapter PiceaServices device support later in this document. 5 Overview: Device settings before content transfer Turn on the right mode on the devices before connecting. See detailed settings in different device platforms in next chapters:
PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 8 5.1 Android devices a) Turn on Developer options and USB debugging mode (as explained): Android 4.2 ->: Keep tapping Build number in Settings > About phone > Software information > Build number until the pop-up note You are now a developer! id displayed. Then turn on Developer mode and USB debugging in Settings > More > Developer options > USB debugging. Android 3.x-4.1: Settings > Developer options > USB debugging. Android 2.x: Settings > Application settings > Development > USB debugging b) Connect the device and set USB connection type: Android 4.x ->: Set the Media Sync (MTP) mode on: Open Notification Panel by swiping down from top of the device display and choose USB connected and then Media device (MTP) Android 2.x-3.x: Set the USB mass storage on: Connect your device via the USB cable to your computer or laptop. Open Notification Panel by swiping down from top of the device display. Tap USB Connected and touch Connect Storage to PC c) Disable the device display lock and accept all requests on device UI The following link shows instructions for setting Developer mode and USB debugging mode for different Android releases: Configuring Android USB connectivity. Example: The screenshots below refer to Samsung Android devices Release 4.2 and later:
PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 9 Do not forget to allow USB debugging mode on device display, after connecting it with USB cable: If the query is not displayed on device display, click the Ask again on the device button in the PiceaSwitch user interface.
PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 10 5.2 iphone/ipad Insert SIM card into target iphone Activate the phone Apple id not yet necessary Turn off the passcode from source iphone and don t create the passcode in target iphone Don t enable icloud sync in the target iphone before the transfer because that enables also Find My iphone. After connecting iphone with USB cable, answer Trust on iphone UI to question if you trust this computer 5.3 Windows Phone Transfer content from the Windows Phone: Connect your device to computer with a USB cable. (Please pay attention that for software versions of Windows Phone 7.5 and 7.8 there is no need to connect the cable, because computer does not recognize the devices. In this case only contacts can be transferred via Bluetooth). To transfer contacts and messages follow the instructions on the screen. Create a backup using contacts+message backup app: 1. Connect your Windows Phone with USB cable to computer 2. Open Store application on the device 3. Search for the contacts+message backup application. Verify the publisher of the application is Microsoft Corporation. 4. Tap the install button 5. In Windows 8 devices: After successful installation, open Settings > system, find the contacts+message backup item and tap it 6. In Windows 10 devices: After successful installation, open Settings > Extras, find the contacts+message backup item and tap it. If you don t find it, restart the phone and try again. 7. Tap the agree button to accept the license terms 8. If memory card is not present, tap pick folder button 9. Tap documents folder 10. Tap backup button 11. Select content types, and tap the backup button to start the operation 12. Wait for the backup to complete
PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 11 13. Reconnect the device 14. Continue with the transfer process Transfer content to the Windows Phone: Connect your device to computer with a USB cable. When Windows Phone is a target device, sign in using the button Sign in to Microsoft account. If you don t have an account yet (e.g. Hotmail), you can create one following the link Sign up in the pop-up window. Transfer content to Windows Phone. Contacts and calendar entries are transferred to the Microsoft account and other data via the USB cable. After the transfer is completed go to Windows Phone Settings and open email + accounts. Add a Microsoft account to the settings and synchronize data with the device. 5.4 Nokia S40 and Symbian Use Nokia Suite (or Ovi Suite or PC Suite) mode: Settings > Connectivity > USB > Nokia Suite. But for e.g. Nokia 208, 301, 515: Use Modem mode 5.5 BlackBerry Connect the phone with USB cable and choose USB drive setting on the phone display 5.6 Other devices If PiceaSwitch does not already have a driver for new Android phone, the driver is generated automatically on Piceasoft server and distributed to all customers globally by automatic updates Support for the following device platforms is restricted: Proprietary platforms from Samsung, Sony-Ericsson, Siemens etc, for example Bada phones. Content should be transferred with Bluetooth connection, for example Sony-Ericsson K501i and Doro 520:

PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 13 6 ios full content transfer - speed improvements and wider content support Content transfer from ios device to ios device is now up to 40% faster using this feature Content transfer from ios device to device supports same contents as itunes backup. For example settings can be transferred from old iphone to new iphone. Note! All the content on the target device will be overwritten. Requirements for ios devices: The ios version of the target device must be the same or later than in the source device The memory size of the target device must be the same or larger than in the source device The transaction doesn t include the following content and settings: Content from the itunes and App Stores, or PDFs downloaded directly to ibooks Content synced from itunes, like imported MP3s or CDs, videos, books, and photos Photos already stored in the cloud, like My Photo Stream, and icloud Photo Library Touch ID settings Apple Pay information and settings Activity, Health, and Keychain data Apps are not transferred and are not overwritten on the target device. Press Start transfer button to proceed.
PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 14 Should you decide to press Cancel button the regular PiceaSwitch view will open, where content can be selected. With regular PiceaSwitch you can transfer the entire content except settings. Also the content of the target device will not be overwritten. 7 Backup and Restore 7.1 Backup to USB flash drive When one mobile device and a USB flash drive are connected, PiceaSwitch automatically offers to Backup or Restore content. It is also possible to start Back up or Restore operation from the Menu: Tools > Back up... or Restore...
PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 15 Backup and Restore operations are performed in five simple steps using wizard. default feature optional feature 7.2 Backup to cloud While Backup/Restore to/from USB flash drive is a free feature, we also offer a separately licensed Backup/Restore device content to/from cloud 1. Supported cloud services are: Microsoft OneDrive, DropBox, GoogleDrive, and customer specific cloud services (example in the screenshot is JottaCloud.). 7.3 Export contacts, calendar entries and messages as a text file 1 Cloud backup is a separately licensed feature. To have it enabled, please contact your sales agent or distributor.
PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 16 An extra folder is created on a USB flash drive: contacts are exported as a vcard file, calendar entries are in a vcal file, and text messages in a separate CSV file. 8 Application delivery for iphone and Android devices Predefined applications can be promoted to both iphone and Android users and installed on device during content transfer. App links to App store or Google Play Store are sent to devices via text messages. We offer Preloaded content and Optional content. Both preloaded and optional content can be defined by a person, who has access to Piceasoft analytics: https://analytics.piceasoft.com/ Preloaded content is automatically loaded into device during Switch. Content is predefined and cannot be changed during the transfer. Optional content is available for the customer during Switch. Customer can choose the content to be transferred to device during the transfer. This is an optional feature. To have it enabled, please contact your sales agent or distributor. Company manager can define, which applications (available in the app store) will be offered to users. App selection can be done with a PiceaReporting account. At the moment this is an optional feature that can be enabled on request. The Examples of text messages from Android Play Store:
PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 17 9 PiceaDiagnostics 9.1 Purpose of the tool PiceaDiagnostics is a software tool that helps retail stores avoiding No Fault Found (NFF) returns and unnecessary repair center deliveries by checking the device for faults. PiceaDiagnostics tool is designed to assist and accelerate testing of the critical functions in Android OS and ios based devices and report the testing results. The tool performs both fully automated as well as user-assisted test cases and software analysis. PiceaDiagnostics tool verifies that all device hardware will function as expected during normal usage. PiceaDiagnostics tool will/can perform tests and analyze the results via any available Android OS or ios software interfaces. In user-assisted test cases, the tool will control the test applications but the operator will need to decide whether the result was successful or not. 9.2 Supported Android devices You can find the list of supported device platforms and content types in chapter PiceaServices device support later in this document. This applies to devices that are tested and to the phone used as the phone call counterpart. 9.2.1 Prerequisite for Android devices In order to successfully run PiceaDiagnostics test cases with full testing capacity, two (2) valid SIM cards are needed: one for the phone call answering client (counterpart) and the other for the device to be tested. Also an SD card is needed for the device to be tested. Tests can be run only for one device at a time. A Wi-Fi access point and a Bluetooth counterpart will also be needed. It is recommended to have a Bluetooth counterpart on a computer as a Bluetooth receiver connection will be more stable via computer. A phone is not recommended as a Bluetooth counterpart, because usually a Bluetooth connection on the phone will stay active only 120 seconds at a time and it requires constant reactivating. 9.3 Supported ios devices You can find the list of supported device platforms and content types in chapter PiceaServices device support later in this document
PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 18 9.3.1 Prerequisite for ios devices In order to successfully run PiceaDiagnostics test cases with full testing capacity, two (2) valid SIM cards are needed: one for the phone call answering client (counterpart) and the other for the device to be tested. Tests can be run only for one device at a time. A Wi-Fi access point and a Bluetooth counterpart will also be needed. The Wi-Fi connection needs to be enabled and Wi-Fi credentials needs to be given manually to the device to be tested before starting the tests. For Bluetooth testing a Bluetooth Smart or Smart Ready device is needed (a device supporting Bluetooth LE connectivity. This could be e.g. an ios device. 9.4 Settings Settings can be found from the Menu: Tools > Settings. 9.4.1 Diagnostics tab Before some of the diagnostics test cases can be run, basic settings need to be entered first to the Diagnostics tab. Telephone call number: The phone number of the answering application. The number must be given in international telephone number format starting with the international call prefix (usually a + character = plus sign) then the international country code and the global subscriber number (e.g. a number in Finland +358506316211). Note! During the testing/piloting phase if the tick box (Use custom number) is not selected then the call is made to a pre-defined number / answering phone in Finland. Wireless network: The credentials of the Wi-Fi counterpart. WPA authentication is recommended as it provides secure authentication. Note! These settings are only applicable for Android devices. For ios devices the credentials must be entered manually using device Menu.
PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 19 9.5 Usage Guidelines 9.5.1 PiceaDiagnostics client (in device) PiceaDiagnostics client is the main UI for running the user-assisted diagnostics cases. The PiceaDiagnostics client shows the following information: diagnostics case name, phase of the diagnostics, status of the case / execution and provides a short explanation of the case and the execution instructions. Example of Android client UI: Example of ios client UI: 9.5.2 PiceaDiagnostics computer software PiceaDiagnostics computer software is the main UI for executing the overall Diagnostics and Analyze for repair process. The test case selections and case executions are managed and initiated from the computer side. Open PiceaDiagnostics and the software will start collecting data from the device.
PiceaSwitch Quick Start Guide Page 21 Manage apps view enables user to can see the whole system and 3 rd party applications including their details. User is also able to remove and refresh applications. Battery details gives information about the battery and its condition. Delete content enables fast way to delete certain types of user content. Run tests opens a new view for running individual automated and user-assisted hardware test cases. Analyze for repair guides user through the process of deciding whether the device has such hardware related problems that it would be worth sending it to the repair center. 9.7.1 Battery performance test for Android Battery performance test for Android devices allows easy battery performance evaluation (on the scale from 1 to 5) by analyzing device battery with Piceasoft application.

Same case can be run multiple times. Also the device body and display and back cover condition can be graded. At the end a diagnostics report can be viewed and saved locally. The details are also sent to PiceaReportiing system.
