How to Open Your Charles Schwab Stock Plan Account Complete the process in a few simple steps. For U.S.-based clients This guide gives detailed directions to help walk you through the steps of opening a Schwab brokerage account. Getting Started Before opening your account online, have these things handy: 1. Your Employee Identification Number. This could be your payroll ID, Social Security number, company ID number, or corporate ID. You ll most often find it on your paycheck or payroll system (such as ADP or Oracle). It might also appear on your listing in your company directory. Make sure all of your entries match your employer records exactly. 2. Your home address (use the same address as the one your employer has on file for you). 3. Your Social Security number or Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN). 4. Your company s stock trading symbol (the abbreviation that identifies your company for stock trades in the U.S. stock exchanges). Please give yourself enough time (about 5 to 10 minutes) to complete the account set-up process. You can t open your account online if: 1. You select U.S. for your Country of Citizenship, but choose a non-u.s. country for Country of Residence. 2. Your company considers you an affiliate or insider. (See page 2 for definitions and details.) Please note: Your experience opening an account online may vary slightly from what is presented in this guide. If you see any screens that are not represented in this document, simply follow the directions on that page to proceed. 1
How to Start To open a new Schwab One brokerage account or to link to an existing Schwab brokerage account, visit the Schwab Equity Award Center. On the home page, click on the Get Started button; this will take you to the Account Setup page. Answer the two questions on this page, and then click on the Submit button. You will be given one or more methods to apply. To apply online, click the Apply Now button under the Online heading. --At the first Open An Account page, enter your company s Stock Trading Symbol. This is an abbreviation that identifies your company for stock trades on the U.S. stock exchanges. The trading symbol is not case sensitive. --Select your Primary Country of Citizenship. This is usually the country where you were born, though some people change their citizenship, or maintain dual citizenship in a country where they were born and in a secondary country where they currently reside. Select your Secondary Country of Citizenship, if applicable. Select your Country of Residency. Note to U.S. Expatriates If you select a non-united States country for the Country of Residence and United States for either one of the Country of Citizenship fields, you will be unable to proceed with the online account opening application and you will be required to complete a paper application. Note to Affiliates/Insiders If your company considers you an Affiliate or Insider, you are not eligible for online account opening and you will be required to complete a paper application. Affiliate: An individual who is in a position to influence the actions of a corporation such as a company executive, officer, or director. Insider: An employee who has access to material, non-public information. Click on the Continue button when you re ready to move on to the next screen. Or click on the Cancel Application button to stop the application process. Eligible account types: Individual Schwab One or other Schwab brokerage accounts may be used to exercise your employee stock options. If you are a U.S. employee, joint Schwab One or brokerage accounts may be used to exercise your employee stock options. Account types that cannot be used to exercise your employee stock options include Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), Personal Choice Retirement Accounts (PCRAs), and Partnership, Limited Liability Corporation (LLC), Custodial, Corporate, and 401( k) accounts. 1 Get Started Holder Information Primary Account Holder In the appropriate spaces, enter your first and last name, your city and state of residence, Social Security number, and Employee ID. (Your Employee ID may also be known as your Employee Number, Social Security number, your Payroll ID, Company ID Number, or Corporate ID.) Please enter your personal information exactly as it appears in your company s records or the account opening process will not be successful. Usually, the way your information appears on your paycheck is what you should use in these fields. For your protection, the information you provide will be matched to your company s records to ensure accuracy and/or confirm your identity. Please read the Helpful Hints below. Click on the Next button when you re ready to move on to the next screen. Or click on the Cancel Application button to stop the application process. Helpful Hints Your first and last names need to match your company s records exactly, including hyphens, spacing, etc. If your middle name or middle initial (including punctuation) appears in your company s records, it should be added to the First Name field. If you don t know your Employee ID, you can find it on your paycheck or payroll system such as ADP or Oracle. It might also appear on your listing in your company s employee directory. Make sure all of your entries match your employer records exactly, or the application process will be unsuccessful. You may be asked to verify your date of birth or date of hire. 3
Already have a Schwab account? If you already have one or more eligible accounts with Schwab that can be used with your equity awards, this pop-up window will appear when you click the Next button. At this point, you can select your current account as your equity awards account or continue to open a new account. Linking a current Schwab account to your equity awards is a shorter process than opening a new account. 4
2 Your Information Account Holder Information We re required by securities industry regulations to ask many of the questions in this section. Primary Account Holder Your name information is pre-populated here. Please check to make sure it matches the name information you provided per instructions on the previous page. Enter your Email Address. Addresses Enter your Home Street Address (no P.O. Boxes, please). Enter your Home City, State, Zip Code, and Country of Residence. If you have changed your home address in the past six months, please check the appropriate box. Or, if you would like your mail to be sent to a different address, please check that box. Phone Numbers Please fill in at least one of the three spaces provided for phone numbers: your Home Phone, your Mobile Phone, or your Business Phone. (Enter only numbers in the phone number fields entering commas, hyphens, etc. will trigger an error and require you to reenter the numbers). Identification Information Please choose your country of primary Citizenship. Enter your Social Security number (no hyphens are needed). Enter your Date of Birth (mm/dd/yyyy). Enter your Mother s Maiden Name. Enter your current Driver s License Number and Expiration Date. 5
Your Information, continued. Employment Information Choose your current employment status from the options given. Affiliations Check whichever box applies to you and your status with your employer. Investment Profile Choose your current Income Range and Liquid Net Worth. Click on the Next button when you re ready to move on to the next screen. 3 Online Setup Create a Login ID that is six to twenty characters long and includes at least one letter. (No symbols are allowed.) Create a Password that is six to eight characters long and has one number between the letters. (No symbols are allowed.) Reenter your Password to confirm. Choose a security question from the drop-down menu and provide an answer to verify your identity in case you forget your login information. (Answers can consist of letters, numbers, or both, but be careful not to enter any spaces before or after any of the characters or digits.) Please remember to print this screen for your records and jot down your account number for future references. Click on the Next button when you re ready to move on to the next screen. Or click the Back button if you need to change a response in the Your Information section. Helpful Hints Remember, your Login ID should be six to twenty characters long with at least one letter and no symbols (for example: dogandcat1915 or catsanddogs2014). Your password should be six to eight characters long with one number between the letters and no symbols (for example: my98dog or no57cat). 7
4 Account Features On this page you choose the features you want with your Schwab One brokerage account. You can modify these at any time after your account is open. Margin Trading. A margin allows you to borrow or purchase additional securities using your brokerage account assets as collateral. Schwab MoneyLink. This feature lets you link an external account, such as a Schwab Bank High Yield Investor Checking account, to your brokerage account to easily transfer money from one account to another. Access Your Money. Choose how you prefer to access cash in your brokerage account. Document Delivery. You can choose paperless services to reduce the amount of mail you receive. Earn Income on Uninvested Cash. The Schwab Bank sweep feature is automatically included with your account. If you have more than $500,000 in household balances, you may request a sweep money market fund as an alternative to speaking to your Schwab representative. The yield of a sweep money market fund may be higher than rates offered by either Schwab or Schwab Bank. For more information, read the Cash Features Disclosure Statement for Individual Investors. Click on the Next button when you re ready to move on to the next screen. Or click the Back button if you need to change a response in the Your Information section. 8
5 Agree to Terms Review the agreements and disclosures provided on this page. Download or print the documents listed on this page for your records. Check the I Consent box if you agree with the statements. Click on Next when you re ready to move on to the next screen. 9
6 Review and Confirm Here you can review the personal information you entered on the previous pages to verify that the information is accurate. Please double-check the information you entered into your application, and if you need to make changes, click on the appropriate Edit link to go back and change your information. Click the I Agree box to accept the account agreement. Click on Submit when you re ready to move on to the next screen. 10
Open an Account Thank You After you submit your application, you ll see a confirmation notice and information about the status of the application. This screen includes your new account number and provides a link to create a new Login ID and password for your equity award account. If your application is approved, click on the log in link to activate a login and password for your account. Then, log in to the Schwab Equity Award Center, where you can: Manage your account. View real-time balances of your vested and unvested awards as well as share and cash balances. Exercise/trade your stock options. Perform Equity Compensation Awards transactions. If your online application is not immediately approved, you will receive a message that it is under manual review, and you will be notified later of its status.
