WebSphere Commerce Suite includes server software to host e-commerce sites and robust payment software to handle secure Internet payments. Add to that IBM s business expertise and a fearless commitment to the advancement of e-commerce technology, and you have a complete e-commerce solution. Start with a firm foundation The foundation of your e-commerce site is built upon IBM WebSphere Application Server. It fully utilizes Java technology to offer flexibility, portability and extensibility within WebSphere Commerce Suite. The architecture of WebSphere Commerce Suite creates an open environment in which to easily integrate third-party systems. And you can enjoy faster development cycles that speed time to market by leveraging the Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB ) object model. Included in WebSphere Commerce Suite is IBM DB2 Universal Database software, the engine that powers the world s most demanding e-business applications. For IBM ^ iseries users, IBM DB2 is available with the IBM OS/400 system. It contains all the data used by the WebSphere Commerce Suite system, from basic information required to run the server to detailed information about individual buyers, product items and prices. IBM DB2 relational database also offers robust search capabilities that give your buyers a number of ways to quickly find the information they need. Empowering your business users What differentiates WebSphere Commerce Suite from other e-commerce solutions are intuitive tools that let marketing and line-of-business personnel take an active role in defining the dynamic content served on your site. Now, the people who clearly understand the business can be involved in the decisions that determine what each customer sees. Let the IT staff use their valuable skills most effectively, while significantly reducing your IT maintenance costs. Empower your marketing staff to reinforce branding and create targeted promotions. Line-of-business staff can focus on workflow. Accounting staff can study billing and payment aspects. When business needs change, the simplicity of the tools lets your non-it staff optimize applications anytime. WebSphere Commerce Suite Accelerator, a component of WebSphere Commerce Suite, is an easy-to-use interface that acts as an integration point for WebSphere Commerce Suite functionality all the tools you need to manage your e-business in one place. Develop marketing strategies, handle customer orders and perform customer service. WebSphere Commerce Suite Accelerator provides functionality based on the role of the user and divides it into four main categories: marketing, merchandising, operations and customer service. 2

Create targeted marketing programs and promotions Marketing managers can use tools to help them monitor, analyze and understand customer behavior. With this information they can target specialized programs and promotions to particular customer segments. You can also create programs using collaborative filtering technology from MacroMedia, included with WebSphere Commerce Suite. Collaborative filtering lets you collect user information and build profiles based on defined criteria as well as specific user behavior, such as products purchased, items added or removed and site usage patterns. Entice customers with innovative merchandising techniques Merchandising tools help determine the best way to sell products and track customer purchases. You can find, list and change product details, determine discounts and manage product auctions. Many e-commerce sites add the excitement of auctions to attract users, encourage repeat visits, capture customer data, increase sales and move excess inventory. WebSphere Commerce Suite provides an interface that makes setting up and running an auction easy. Several auction-bidding techniques are available, including open-cry, sealed-bid and Dutch. Store administration made easy Store administrators use tools to manage store operations, including working with orders, payments and fulfillment. Customer service representatives can create, modify and cancel orders as well as handle customer registration information. Analyze your success After establishing your marketing programs, it is imperative that you be able to measure success rates. What works? What doesn t? IBM WebSphere Commerce Analyzer, included with WebSphere Commerce Suite, Pro Edition, provides a robust business intelligence solution designed to analyze and report on statistics generated by your customers. WebSphere Commerce Analyzer automatically extracts data to a remote, dedicated machine. Then, it processes numerous database records in order to compile prebuilt reports about traffic and usage. These reports answer questions that are vital to running a successful e-business. Multicultural support in a global economy WebSphere Commerce Suite provides multicultural support in a number of languages, currencies, varying presentation layouts, payment structures and shipping options. Increase customer loyalty by offering a tailored, worldwide experience. Buyers can select their own cultural preferences and you can provide unique shopping experiences by leveraging the same core infrastructure and catalog. Let customers select their language of choice. Display multiple currencies and perform dynamic currency conversion. Customize data formats based on different cultural expectations. Determine taxation, shipping and payment methods depending upon a customer s geographic location. 3

It s much more than local languages and currencies. WebSphere Commerce Suite delivers multicultural support that permeates the entire product architecture. Support for m-commerce offers additional flexibility Open up your business to a much wider audience by extending your e-commerce applications to include wireless users. Cellular phones, pagers, PDAs and other handheld devices give customers additional flexibility in how they access your company s e-commerce system. Support for mobile-commerce (m-commerce) is built into WebSphere Commerce Suite. Developers can write adapters that give buyers customized solutions depending upon the specific devices they have. Protocols supported are HTTP, using HTML and the wireless access protocol (WAP), using wireless markup language (WML); i-mode wireless communication is also supported. Tools to help you build your e-commerce site WebSphere Commerce Studio provides the development tools you need to create your e-commerce site. A visual page designer helps Web developers easily create HTML and JavaServer Pages (JSP ) files. The workbench environment lets Web teams organize and manage Web development projects. Wizards make creating dynamic pages easy by generating JSP files, JavaBeans code, SQL statements and servlets based on your requirements. You can modify site pages by simply dropping JavaBeans code onto JSP files. When you are finished, publish the site to WebSphere Commerce Suite staging and production server to get your e-business up and running. Included with WebSphere Commerce Studio, Developer Edition is IBM VisualAge for Java, Professional Edition. Integration with WebSphere Commerce Studio gives you the tools to develop and debug advanced JSP templates and to quickly add content to the templates. This increases productivity for Web developers and programmers. One of the biggest benefits of VisualAge for Java is its ability to reduce the overall effort and cost to build, deploy and maintain Java applications. For developers new to Java technology, VisualAge for Java provides integrated scenarios for e-business that let developers learn how to build solutions by customizing prebuilt applications. VisualAge for Java and the WebSphere software platform are an ideal training environment regardless of your level of expertise. 4

For enhanced functionality that includes developing business logic, or back-office operations, take advantage of VisualAge for Java, Enterprise Edition available with WebSphere Commerce Studio, Professional Developer Edition. It offers additional functionality including support for EJB technology and connectivity features to support integration to other systems such as IBM CICS Transaction Systems, IBM MQSeries and more. The VisualAge for Java, Enterprise Edition test environment lets you run WebSphere Commerce Suite functions without exiting VisualAge for Java. This means you can test customized WebSphere Commerce Suite code without having to deploy the code to the commerce server. Sharing information adds value for your customers Today s challenge is to manage e-commerce-related files in a way that lets you share content with your trading partners, suppliers and customers. Catalog content, documents, pages, graphics, text, contract, invoices and others all need to be maintained efficiently and effectively. WebSphere Commerce Suite has functionality to help build catalogs and manage their content, including XML technology, to provide a standards-based mechanism to mass-import catalog data. For advanced functionality that helps organize catalog information into packages and bundles and enables you to build rich product information with detailed attributes, IBM WebSphere Catalog Manager is an available add-on product. WebSphere Catalog Manager can be purchased separately for use with WebSphere Commerce Suite, Start or Pro Editions. Systems management keeps your e-business running WebSphere Commerce Suite is Tivoli Ready, which means you can use Tivoli solutions to manage your e-commerce systems. Tivoli s e-business management products enable you to speed deployment, ensure security, maintain availability and optimize business systems performance. IBM SecureWay Directory server can be used with WebSphere Commerce Suite for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) standards-based directory services (on iseries, LDAP Directory Services). This server centrally updates information that can be used by multiple applications, networks and systems across a variety of platforms significantly reducing the time-consuming process of updating individual application-side files and directories. 5

Proven configuration techniques for peak performance Highly scalable, WebSphere Commerce Suite is often set up with a three-tier configuration using multiple WebSphere Commerce Suite servers and a single remote database. The Web server is installed on one machine; the WebSphere Commerce Server and WebSphere Application Server are installed on the second machine; and they access a database server on a third machine. All machines must be running the same operating system. This configuration provides improved performance, scalability and security options. For small Web sites, or for development purposes, use a single-tier configuration placing the Web server, WebSphere Commerce Server, WebSphere Application Server and database server on one machine. Depending upon your platform, you may need to increase performance and scalability. WebSphere Commerce Server provides several configuration options: Use a network dispatcher to distribute workload to multiple Web server nodes and multiple WebSphere Commerce Server nodes Use a process called cloning to make identically configured copies of the WebSphere Commerce Server Pick the product that s right for you today IBM WebSphere Commerce Suite, Start Edition for Microsoft Windows NT and Microsoft Windows 2000 is designed for entry-level Web sites. It supports IBM DB2 Universal Database and IBM HTTP Server. Using WebSphere Commerce Suite, Start Edition, you can create compelling e-commerce sites. Visitors to these sites can place items in shopping carts, set preferences, navigate through catalogs, check out, select payment and shipment methods, and pay by credit card. IBM WebSphere Commerce Suite, Pro Edition is designed for businesses that require a robust, scalable e-commerce solution. With WebSphere Commerce Suite, Pro Edition, you get all the features of WebSphere Commerce Suite, Start Edition, as well as advanced tools to create and manage informationrich catalogs, personalize purchasing experiences for your customers, create and manage auctions, and integrate your site with existing systems.
