1. The Toolbar In every Interactive Lecture and Practice Activity, the Toolbar at the bottom of the user interface provides several buttons that will help you navigate the lesson and access different features and functionalities of the lesson presentation. Menu Select this button to view the entire Menu listing the screens in the Interactive Lecture or Practice Activity. You can jump to a particular screen using the Menu feature. Select the menu icon and use the scroll bar to view the list of screens / pages in the lesson. Select the screen you want to jump to and release. Print Select this button to print a printer-friendly version of any screen. Glossary Select this button to view the glossary List. A glossary is an alphabetically arranged list that gives brief definitions of words related to a specific topic, also called a controlled vocabulary. Closed-Caption Select this button to view an audio transcript at the bottom of the player above the toolbar. Closed captions typically show a transcription of the audio portion of a course as it occurs, sometimes including non-speech elements. 2
Notes Select this button to view a list of screen numbers with its respective screen titles. This section enables students to save important pieces of information. Since Notes are saved to a device's cache, you should save or email them to yourself to retain a copy. Volume Control Select this button to turn the audio on or off. You can also use it to modify the volume. Play Select this button to play or pause the audio on that particular screen. Back Select this button to return to the previous screen. Next Select this button to proceed to the next screen. Help Select this button to view the application help system. The Help button is placed at the far right end of the player. 3
2. Visual Icons Icons are used throughout to highlight important information. Below is the list of program icons, which may be used throughout the course. Stop and Think This icon indicates either an interactivity that tests the student s knowledge of information covered on previous screens or a point for reflection in text. Emphasis This icon highlights something from the text that needs special attention. Communication and Teamwork This icon provides a point of focus on communication skills and teamwork challenges. Infection Control This icon reiterates the important methods of infection control. Caution This icon stresses the need for particular attention so as to avoid problems. 4
Safety This icon emphasizes the ways to create and maintain safety in the work environment. Case Study This icon indicates real-life case studies likely to be found in the work environment. Legal and Ethical Issues This icon directs attention to the legal and ethical issues in the healthcare environment. Professionalism This icon stresses the importance of professionalism in the workplace. Hand Washing This icon emphasizes the prime prevention tool for avoiding infection. 5
