1. Purpose The programming unit provides the specialist dealer or therapist the possibility of checking resp. reprogramming the controller data of the impulse device IG 16. The driving behaviour of the electric wheelchair can be adapted to the individual requirements and the learning progress of the respective user by programming the pulse device. 1.1 Safety information Do not spray the programming unit with water. Only plug the programming plug ➅ into the programming socket of an ORTOPEDIA-Impulse device. Always handle the programming unit correctly and never throw it or drop it. This is necessary to ensure a reliable functioning. 3 4 2 5 1 6 1 2. 3. Notes on use Despite electronic safety measures, it is possible to make mistakes during the programming when the local circumstances and the possibilities of the user are not taken into account. For example, it is not practical to set the acceleration and the speed to the maximum value when the wheelchair is used in confined spaces. When programming the delay value, take into account that, on one hand, an abrupt braking can endanger the wheelchair driver and, on the other hand, the braking distance must not exceed 1.0 m at 6 km/ h or 2.0 m at 10 km/h for safety reasons. If the user has impaired motor functions, the response behaviour of the vehicle to abrupt joystick movement should be damped via the programming of smaller values. The programming must therefore take into account many factors that are dependent on the respective situation and the user and for which there can be no general guidelines. However, below are some items that can give a dealer or therapist entrusted with programming valuable information on special circumstances: The programming must be specially tailored to the user. The reaction capacity, constitution and physical and mental possibilities must be taken into account. A talk with the doctor or therapist can be very helpful. The environment in which the wheelchair will be primarily used should be viewed before the programming. A programming at the place of use in order to take the environmental circumstances into account directly and be able to make changes after a test drive is the better option. 4
4. Programming sequence a) Switch off the control unit. b) Pull the protection cap off of the programming socket of the impulse device. c) Plug the programming plug into the impulse device. d) Switch on the control unit. e) Do the programming. f) Switch off the control unit. g) Extract the programming plug and insert the protection cap. If a new value is programmed and conveyed into the IG 16 while driving, the E-wheelchair will brake abruptly. Afterwards it starts driving again with the new values. This function can be used when matching the driving characteristics to the user. The value of a settable function can be altered with the +/- keys. After releasing these keys the value is automatically transferred into the IG 16 after about 3 seconds and you can immediately test what effect this change has. Attention:! The electric wheelchair can still be driven whilst the programming unit is connected. Take care that such driving does not pull off the cable to the programming unit. 5
5. Key operation ESC-Key: Abort of the programming and return to the beginning of the menu P-Key: Confirmation of the menu selection + - Key: + 1 %, Yes, in the main menu one step forward - - Key: - 1 %, No, in the main menu one step back 6. Fault messages at switch-on The fault memory location with the current fault message will be displayed immediately if a fault is detected in the IG 16 system after the switch-on. You can jump to the start of the menu at any time with the ESC-key. 7. Menu guide a) Driving parameter x b) Chair type programs c) Operating data d) Error memory e) Joystick alignment Attention:! For the safe functioning of the IG 16, BG 16 /18 /19 a complete joystick alignment is to be completed after exchanging one of the system components. f) Jump to a 6
7.1 Driving parameter x The driving characteristics of the electric wheelchair can be programmed under this menu item. The following settings are possible: 1. Forward speed max./min. 2. Backward speed max./min. 3. Curve speed right max./min. 4. Curve speed left max./min. 5. Forward acceleration max./min. 6. Forward deceleration max./min. 7. Acceleration in curves max./min. 8. Deceleration in curves max./min The double minimum/maximum-values only show when the speed-, curve- or delay potentiometers are activated. In the other case each value only appears once. By selecting the fixed driving programs all previously set values of item 1 to 8 are overwritten. The following driving programs currently exist: 9. Standard Standard-driving characteristics, (manufacturers setting) 10. Active Steering and driving behaviour more direct 11. Sportive Steering and driving behaviour very direct 12. Therapy 1 Driving characteristics softer than standard 13. Therapy 2 More soft and lazier than therapy 1 14. Therapy 3 More soft and lazier than therapy 2 15. Therapy 4 Driving characteristics very soft and lazy 16. Retrieving the values Restoring the previous settings before selection of the driving parameter x menu. 17. Jump to the beginning of the menu 7
7.2 Chair type programs Under this menu item the impulse device programming can be adjusted to a chair type. This programming is designed for the exchange of the device. Hereby all! Programmed values are irreversibly overwritten with those of the selected chair type. After selecting this menu item an indication is given to the new programming of the impulse device and subsequently the current E-chair types. With the +key the chair type is selected and afterwards the programming for this chair made with the P-key. Hardware switches are also changed here, so that the impulse device switches to fault when the wrong chair is selected, also for example while driving. 7.3 Operating data Under this menu item the following data can be displayed: 1. Power-on time of the IG 16 without fault in hours and minutes. 2. Driving time of the electric wheelchair in hours and minutes. 3. Version and time of issue of the IG 16 device software. 4. Version and time of issue of the programming software. 7.4 Error memory Here you can view the error memory with its last error indications. The last 90 errors can be called off. The upper line displays the storage- and error number. At the bottom a description of the error-group (10 groups) to the error indication number runs through the display. With help of this explanation a localising of the source of the fault is made easier. 8
7.5 Joystick alignment With this menu item a complete alignment of the maximum- and offset- values of the joystick is to be done on each exchange of the IG 16 or BG 16 / 18. Also single positions can be elected for the error search: 1. complete Complete alignment in all 4 directions with center alignment 2. center Alignment of the joystick in center position 3. forward Alignment of the joystick in forward position 4. backwards Alignment of the joystick in backward position During the alignment the driving stage is to be set to 100% on the BG 16. On the BG 18 the speed pre-selection to right limit. The joystick is then, according to the instructions in the display, to be held in a limit position or to be released in center position. 7. Alignment of the rear potentiometer in center position on the Rondo. For this the rear panel has to be removed and the rear wheels brought mechanically exact into center position. The display then constantly shows the electrical position of the potentiometer. 5. right Alignment of the joystick in position right 6. left Alignment of the joystick in position left 9
