Graduation Pathways CTE Pathway CDOS Pathway 4+1 Assessment Option

Components of the CTE Pathway Meet the minimum diploma requirement of 22 credits Pass the 4 required Regents exams, one each in ELA, Math, Science & Social Studies + Approved Technical Assessment and Successfully complete an approved CTE program of study that includes: 3 or more credits of CTE instruction that is rigorous and focused in a specific career pathway Work based learning options A completed employability profile Successful completion of a 3-part industry based national technical assessment* *From Approved Alternate Technical Assessment list Students exit school with a Regents diploma and a Technical Endorsement 4

CDOS Pathway Regents approved the CDOS Pathway in June 2016 for ALL students 5

Components of the CDOS Pathway (Diploma path) Meet the minimum diploma requirement of 22 credits Pass the 4 required Regents exams, one each in ELA, Math, Science & Social Studies + complete the requirements for the CDOS Credential in Option 1 or Option 2 Students exit school with a Regents diploma and the CDOS Credential 6

CDOS Credential (stand alone) No minimum credit requirement No Regents exam requirement but students must have access to Regents level coursework Complete all the requirements for Option 1 or Option 2 Students exit school with the CDOS Credential only 7

CDOS Credential Components Option 1 Complete a Career Plan Demonstrate achievement of the CDOS learning standards 1, 2, & 3a Successfully complete at least 216 hours of CTE coursework and/or work based learning experiences, of which at least 54 hours must be in WBL Complete an employability profile Completed 12 years of school excluding kindergarten 8

CDOS option 2 (Sept. 2016) In order to ensure that the assessments taken under Option 2 measure universal foundation skills necessary for entry level employment, are of sufficient rigor, meet requirements for validity and reliability, and are available to all NYS students, the proposed regulations require that, on or after April 3, 2017, students who seek to use Option 2 to meet the requirements for the CDOS Commencement Credential must pass a work-readiness assessment approved by the Commissioner. 10

CDOS option 2 The proposed amendment sets forth the criteria and conditions for assessments to be placed on the Commissioner s approval list and the Department will be working on a request for qualifications process to identify work-readiness assessments that meet these criteria To be made permanent rule December 28, 2016 11

Option G Hold an industry acceptable credential in a career and technical education subject and have at least two years of acceptable work experience in the certificate area to be taught or in a closely related subject area acceptable to the department

Option H Enrolled in a NYS approved career and technical education teacher preparation program or its equivalent in the certificate area to be taught and have either: minimum one year of satisfactory work experience in the career and technical area to be taught or in a closely related area or receive a passing score on an industry accepted career and technical examination that demonstrates mastery in the career and technical education subject for which a certificate is sought or a closely related area as approved by the department through a request for qualifications process

Option I Currently certified 7-12 grade teachers in any subject area, and have at least two years of acceptable work experience in the certificate area to be taught or in a closely related subject area acceptable to the department, or who hold industry-recognized credentials, where available.
