About this publication This document identifies the IBM License Metric Tool enablement position of each product within the IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1 family of products. Who should read this publication This publication is intended for users who must identify, collect, maintain, and report information about the inventory of IBM software assets by using the License Metric Tool. 3 IBM Enablement Guide for IBM Spectrum Protect

Overview IBM License Metric Tool is a product that IBM makes available to IBM Passport Advantage clients to help them determine the consumption of processor value units (PVU) for IBM full and subcapacity software. Later versions of License Metric Tool can also help users determine the consumption of other licensing metrics. The tool helps users assess whether they are compliant with licensing requirements; the tool provides reports that are required for IBM compliance audits. For more information about License Metric Tool see: http://www.ibm.com/software/passportadvantage/ibmlicensemetrictool.html https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/ibm%20licens e%20metric%20tool/page/home%20page Where to obtain more licensing information General information about the IBM Passport Advantage licensing options is available at: http://www.ibm.com/software/passportadvantage/about_software_licensing.html The License Agreement (LA) and License Information (LI) documents that are provided with IBM Spectrum Protect define the terms and conditions that are associated with usage of that software. The License Information document defines the licensing option (also known as the charge metric) that is associated with the licensed offering. Contact your IBM software representative with specific questions about the licensing of your IBM Spectrum Protect software. Copyright IBM Corp. 2016 4

IBM Spectrum Protect IBM Spectrum Protect Version 8.1 IBM Spectrum Protect Extended Edition Version 8.1 The IBM Spectrum Protect product offerings are enabled for discovery by License Metric Tool. License consumption information reported by License Metric Tool License Metric Tool can be used to determine the license consumption that is associated with these products with certain exceptions. PVU With one exception, you can use License Metric Tool to determine the license consumption information that is associated with the PVU licensing option for these products. When you use the IBM Spectrum Protect software to protect a host that does not have IBM Spectrum Protect installed, the PVUs that are associated with this host must be manually calculated. Examples: Data that resides on a file server that is connected to the host where the IBM Spectrum Protect software is installed. Data that resides on a remotely accessed host where the IBM Spectrum Protect software is installed. (for example, network shares and Network File System (NFS) mounts) Hosts that fall under this exception must be manually identified and the PVUs must be manually calculated. Client device You cannot use License Metric Tool to determine the license consumption information that is associated with the Client device license option for these products. License Metric Tool associates the PVU licensing metric with all hosts that are discovered to have components of IBM Spectrum Protect installed. For any host where it is intended to claim Client device licensing, you must manually identify and exclude those host instances from the license consumption report generated by License Metric Tool.
