How to Confirm Uploads in TechSmith Relay Recordings submitted to the Relay server can fail to upload. This is one of the most common problems we see with lecture capture. Fortunately this problem can be prevented. This document covers how to check the progress of an upload, confirm that it is complete, and prevent common upload problems. Confirming Uploads 1. After you submit a recording through Relay, you can check its status in the Relay server. To confirm that a recording has completely uploaded, start by signing into the server. Open a browser and navigate to https://rxlect.pharmacy.ohio-state.edu/relay/ 2. Sign in with the same user ID and password that you use to sign in to the Relay recorder. 3. Select Presentations -> Presentation List from the menu near the top of the screen.
4. If you sign into the Relay recorder with the same account and submit a presentation, you should be able to check the status here. Select Uploading from the drop down box and wait a moment while the page refreshes. If the lecture is still uploading, it should appear in the list on the left side of the screen. 5. Click on your uploading lecture on the left side of the screen. The upload progress should appear on the right side of the screen. 6. Click the browser s refresh button periodically to monitor the progress of the upload. If the progress idles or remains at 0%, the computer s internet connection could have been disconnected. Check the internet connection and sign in again if necessary. 7. After upload progress reaches 100% you might notice your recording disappear from the Uploading list. Select Processing from the drop down box and look for your recording in the list of presentations. If your recording is listed under Processing, then upload completed successfully. 8. If your recording did not appear under Uploading, it may have begun processing before you checked the upload progress. Select Processing from the drop down box. If your recording is listed under Processing, then upload completed successfully.
9. If your recording does not appear under Uploading or Processing, look for your recording under Completed presentations. If you still do not find your recording then it might not have uploaded to the server at all. Check the internet connection and sign in again if necessary. Preventing Upload Problems 1. To prevent unsuccessful uploads, carefully review the setup process for lecture capture. Note that you will need to open a browser, click Accept on the Acceptable Use Policy page, and then sign in with your name.# user ID and password. This is required for internet connectivity. After you click Accept, sign in with your name.# ID and password:
2. After you have signed in and connected to the internet, open another tab or another browser window. Open a website such as www.google.com in the new browser window. Make sure that these windows remain open throughout the entire class. Do not sign out of the internet connection or close the browser windows until all recordings are complete for the day. See the section on confirming uploads to make sure the upload is complete. 3. If you are using Carmen Connect to stream the lecture, double check that the browser windows remain open after the Carmen Connect session begins. If necessary, open another browser window after the Carmen Connect session begins. Use it to open a web site such as google and leave it open throughout class. 4. Check that the Relay recorder is able to connect to the server. You should check the connection status during the setup process before lecture begins. You should check the connection status again at the end of class after you click the stop button, but before you click the submit button. The connection status icon is located in the upper right corner of Relay. If Relay is able to connect to the server, the icon appears as a green check mark over a grey cloud.
If Relay is unable to connect to the server, the status icon appears as a red X mark over a grey cloud. The connection status icon might also appear as a grey cloud with no check or X marks. This also means that Relay is not connected to the server.
If Relay is not connected to the server, check the computer s internet connection. If it has already been signed out, you will need to sign in again to reconnect internet access. If the browser windows have been closed, then the computer s internet connection has been disconnected. In that case you will need to open a browser and sign in again (repeat step 1). 5. After you click the Submit button you may notice the successfully submitted message. This message does NOT mean that the recording has finished uploading to the server. This message can be displayed even if the computer s internet connection was disconnected too soon. See the section on confirming uploads to check the progress of an upload. 6. After you click Submit, you may notice the connecting to server message appears indefinitely. This could indicate the internet connection was disconnected before the lecture was submitted. Sign in again to reconnect the internet connection.
