Installation Procedure Red Hat 7 with Netscape 6 Pre-installation Requirements Before proceeding with the installation of a WatchGuard SOHO unit, you must have the following: A computer with a 10BaseT Ethernet I/O card and a web browser, such as Netscape. A cable or DSL modem with a 10BaseT port. Two Ethernet network cables with RJ45 connectors. These must not be crossover cables (which are usually red or orange). One cable is furnished with your unit. A second cable may have been supplied with your modem. If not, you will need to purchase a second Ethernet, RJ45 cable. An operational Internet connection. The setup of your SOHO requires access to the Internet. If your connection does not work, please contact your Internet service provider (ISP). The serial number of the SOHO. Make a printout You will need to work from a hard copy of this web page so that you can turn off your computer when needed during the installation process. Disable the HTTP Proxy feature You will need to disable the HTTP Proxy feature of your browser, so that your browser will later be able to view the configuration web page resident within the WatchGuard SOHO unit. 1 Launch Navigator. 2 Click on Edit => Preferences. The Preferences window appears. 3 Expand the Advanced category and select Proxies. 4 Enable the Direct connection to the Internet option. 5 Click OK to close the Preferences window. WatchGuard Installation Procedures: Red Hat 7 with Netscape 6 1

Pre-installation Requirements Determine and configure your DHCP status The most common method to distribute IP addresses is to use Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). When you connect your computer to the Internet, a DHCP server at your ISP automatically assigns it a network IP address. This eliminates the ISP from having to manually assign and manage IP addresses. Before you begin the installation process, you need to determine your DHCP status. First, connect to the Internet and then follow the instructions below. NOTE With this operating system, you must be certain that you have full root access on the computer or you will not be able to view or change the DHCP Status nor the TCP/IP Properties settings. 1 Launch a terminal window. 2 At the command prompt, type netcfg and then press enter. 3 Click the Interfaces button. 4 The DHCP status is displayed under the column labelled proto. Record the status in the TCP/IP Setting Chart provided below. For the initial installation of your SOHO, your computer must receive its IP addressing from the SOHO via DHCP. Therefore, you must have DHCP enabled. If the status is none, perform the following steps to enable it. 1 Select the interface used to access the internet most commonly, eth0. Some users maintain multiple interfaces. 2 Click on the Edit button. The Edit Ethernet/Bus Interface window appears. WatchGuard Installation Procedure: Red Hat 7 with Netscape 6 2

Pre-installation Requirements 3 Verify that the Activate interface at boot time option is enabled. 4 Select dhcp from the Interface configuration drop list. 5 Click the Done button. Review and record your current TCP/IP settings You also need to determine your current TCP/IP settings. Follow the instructions below to review and record these settings. NOTE Although Red Hat is the most widely distributed Linux operating system, it is not the only one. If your system is running a different distribution you will need to consult your documentation to determine how to access your TCP/IP settings. 6 Click the Names button to determine your DNS servers and record this information in the chart below. These IP addresses are listed as Nameservers. 7 Click the Routing button to determine your Default Gateway and record this information in the chart below. WatchGuard Installation Procedure: Red Hat 7 with Netscape 6 3

Install the SOHO Unit TCP/IP Settings Chart: TCP/IP Setting Value IP Address Subnet Mask Default Gateway DNS Server(s) Primary Secondary DHCP Enabled Yes No 8 Click on the Quit button to close the Network Configuration window. Install the SOHO Unit 1 Shut down your computer and unplug the power from your DSL or cable modem. 2 Unplug the Ethernet cable that is connected from your cable or DSL modem to your computer and plug it into the WAN port on the SOHO unit. The SOHO unit is now connected directly to the modem. 3 Plug the Ethernet cable supplied with your SOHO into any of the four (numbered 1-4) Ethernet ports on the SOHO unit and plug the other end into the Ethernet card installed in your computer. The SOHO unit will then be connected between your modem and computer. WatchGuard Installation Procedure: Red Hat 7 with Netscape 6 4

Configure the External Network of the SOHO 4 Restore the power to your DSL or cable modem. Wait until the indicator lights of the cable modem have stopped flashing indicating that the cable modem is ready. 5 Attach the power cord to the SOHO and plug it into an outlet. 6 Restart your computer. Configure the External Network of the SOHO IP address assignments can be either dynamic or static. With dynamic, your ISP uses DHCP to assign your computer a new address every time you connect. When you power down, you release the address, and it is reassigned. An IP address that is static, on the other hand, belongs to your computer at all times whether or not you are currently using it. No other computer anywhere on the network shares the same address. A third way of assigning addresses is called PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet). PPPoE combines some of the advantages of Ethernet and PPP by simulating a standard Dial-Up connection. It is popular among many ISPs because it enables them to use existing Dial-Up infrastructure such as billing, authentication, and security for DSL and cable modems. Follow the instructions below to begin configuring the external network of your SOHO. Proceed to the specific, IP address assignment method utilized by your system: the DHCP client (dynamic addressing), Manual Configuration (static addressing), or the PPPoE client. 1 Open your Web browser. Click Stop. At this point, the Internet connection is not fully configured, and the computer cannot load your home page from the Internet. However, the computer can access special configuration Web pages installed on the SOHO itself. 2 With your Web browser, go to the SOHO System Status page using the Trusted IP address of the SOHO. For example, go to: http://192.168.111.1 3 From the navigation bar on the left side, select Network => External. 4 Proceed to the following configuration instructions as appropriate to your system. The DHCP Client Out of the box, the SOHO is configured to obtain its external address information automatically, using DHCP. Therefore, if your ISP assigns you an address automatically (or dynamically), the SOHO will obtain all the addressing information it needs when it powers on and attempts to connect to the Internet. No further configuration of the SOHO is required. WatchGuard Installation Procedure: Red Hat 7 with Netscape 6 5

Configure the External Network of the SOHO Your installation is now complete, and you should be able to use your Internet connection. Verify this by accessing the Internet. Manual Configuration If your Internet service only supports static IP addressing, you will need to enter your computer's original static TCP/IP values into the SOHO device manually. 1 From the Configuration Mode drop list, select Manual Configuration. The Manual Configuration page appears. 2 Enter the TCP/IP settings which you copied from your computer when you started the install process. 3 Click the Submit button. Your installation is now complete, and you should be able to use your Internet connection. Verify this by accessing the Internet. The PPPoE Client Many DSL and some cable providers use login programs such as WinPoET and others to control access to their network. Known as PPPoE clients, this software runs on your computer and requires a username and password to be entered before access to the Internet is granted. The SOHO has a built in PPPoE client, which means that it handles all Internet login processing for you. NOTE If you are using PPPoE to connect to your ISP, the SOHO must be running firmware version 2.0 or later. 1 From the Configuration Mode drop list, select PPPoE Client. The PPPoE Client configuration page appears. WatchGuard Installation Procedure: Red Hat 7 with Netscape 6 6

Install additional computers 2 Enter the PPPoE login name and password supplied by your ISP. 3 Enable the Automatically restore lost connections checkbox. This enables a constant flow of heartbeat traffic between the SOHO and the PPPoE server. In the event of routine packet loss, this option allows the SOHO to maintain it s PPPoE connection. The SOHO may reboot to recover the PPPoE connection if the heartbeat fails. This provides for a more consistent Internet connection but will be seen as continuous traffic by the ISP and regulated as such. 4 Click the Submit button. Your installation is now complete, and you should be able to use your Internet connection. Verify this by accessing the Internet. Troubleshooting the Connection You can monitor the progress of connection traffic through the SOHO using the internal event log. For example, go to: http://192.168.111.1 3 From the navigation bar on the left side, select Logging. Install additional computers To add an additional computer to the Trusted network, verify that it has an Ethernet card installed. Power it down, connect it to the network, and restart it. Disable the browser's "HTTP Proxy" feature. Set the computer to receive its TCP/IP settings from the SOHO via DHCP. WatchGuard Installation Procedure: Red Hat 7 with Netscape 6 7

Activate Your LiveSecurity Service Shut down and restart the computer. Up to four computers can be plugged directly into the four (numbered 1-4) Ethernet ports of the WatchGuard SOHO unit. A larger number of computers can be accommodated by using one or more 10BaseT Ethernet hubs with RJ-45 connectors. Activate Your LiveSecurity Service Along with your WatchGuard purchase you receive a one-year subscription to the LiveSecurity Service, providing you with technical support for your SOHO, access to interactive training, the latest SOHO software updates, and timely threat alerts and editorials from industry experts. The LiveSecurity Service guarantees that your SOHO is protected in a rapidly changing Internet landscape against an unremitting wave of security challenges. To access these services, you must activate your LiveSecurity Service by following these simple steps: 1 With your Web browser, go to the SOHO System Status page using the Trusted IP address of the SOHO. For example, go to: http://192.168.111.1 2 From the configuration page, click on LIVESECURITY at the top navigation banner. The LiveSecurity login page appears. 3 At the LiveSecurity login page, click the register your SOHO link. 4 Follow the directions on the registration pages. If you have already registered for LiveSecurity, you can log in to your account and click the link Add new products to your account. WatchGuard Installation Procedure: Red Hat 7 with Netscape 6 8
