Migrating and upgrading your IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis version This topic outlines how to migrate IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis a new or existing server. Use this procedure to migrate or upgrade your IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis version. Before you begin This procedure requires that: v The user and user group that you use to install IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis must be the same for both the source and target servers. v The home directory, $UNITY_HOME, where IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis is installed must be identical for the source and target servers. About this task These items are migrated or upgraded by this procedure: v Saved searches, tags, and Log Sources v Data Types including Source Types, Rule Sets, File Sets, and Collections. v Topology configuration files v Usage statistics v LDAP configuration files v Custom Apps v Insight Packs v Log File Agent (LFA) configuration files v License configuration files 12 IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis: Installation and Administration Guide

In addition to these files, a number of files that are not required for a new installation are also backed up and maintained for reference purposes. These include: v Log files that are generated by IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis v Log files uploaded in batch mode Data other than the types of data listed above are not backed up or restored. Any customization made outside those listed must be migrated manually. For example, user information for IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis users and changes to passwords for default users are not migrated to the target server. Other limitations include: v Data indexed using IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis Version 1.1.0.1 or older is not restored during the data migration to IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis Version 1.1.0.2. You must index data indexed IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis Version 1.1.0.1 or older again after the migration is complete. However, any artifacts that you created previously do not need to be redefined. v Additional drill-down functionality added subsequent to IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis Version 1.1 is not available for data ingested prior to an upgrade to Version 1.1.0.1. If you search records that have the same timestamp, but are a combination of data ingested before and after you upgraded IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis, the timeline drill-down to seconds-level displays only the data ingested after the upgrade. However, all data is displayed in the Grid and List views. v During data restoration, backed up data is not merged with existing data on the IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis server. Backed up data must be restored on a target system immediately after IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis is installed. v Restoring backed up data must not be completed more than once on a target server. If errors occur restoring backed up data, you must attempt the restoration after removing and re-installing IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis. v Only data contained in the IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis default directories is backed up and restored. Any customization and modifications completed outside these directories are not backed up or restored. v If you create a custom application that points to the Derby database and which has an encrypted user ID and password, when you migrate to a new version of IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis you must update the application to reflect changes to the encryption of the Derby database user ID and password. The custom application cannot run until the application is edited to reflect the encryption used by the updated installer. v When you restore a system that was extended with additional Insight Packs (for example, Syslog Insight Pack or those created with DSV toolkit), the log files and log source directories are not restored. To resolve this issue, you must manually add these directories, using the appropriate LFA configuration file as a reference. When you execute the installation script, IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis and IBM Installation Manager are installed. IBM Installation Manager Version 1.7 is installed when you install IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis. Where necessary, IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis upgrades the currently installed version of IBM Installation Manager. Installing IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis 13

Do not create this directory in the same directory in which IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis is installed. c. From the media archive of IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis Version 1.1.0.x, extract the UnityUtilities.tar.gz archive and copy it to a directory on your IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis server. Do not extract this archive to the same directory that you want to use to back up your files. a. From the directory to which you have extracted the UnityUtilities.tar.gz archive, execute the command:./backup_restore.sh $UNITY_HOME unity_backup backup where $UNITY_HOME is the directory in which IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis is installed and unity_backup is the directory in which you want to store your backed up files. The backup directory you specify must be empty. If you have used it for a previous backup, delete any previous files before executing the command. The command executes and creates a set of archive files in the backup directory. When the script executes information messages might be displayed indicating that files are being skipped during the backup procedure. These messages can be ignored. Any errors that occur during the backup are displayed when the process is complete. Separate archives are created for files that you must restore on the target system and those that are stored for reference purposes. The archives that must be restored on the target system contain the word restore in the filename and are also numbered sequentially. For example, LogAnalytics_12Jul2013_Restore_000.zip. The reference files are contained in archives named with BackupOnly in the filename. For example, LogAnalytics_12Jul2013_BackupOnly_000.zip. An individual archive is created for every 4 GB of data that is backed up which early archive named either LogAnalytics_<datestamp>_Restore_<number>.zip or LogAnalytics_<datestamp>_BackupOnly_<number>.zip where <datestamp> is the date on which the backup was created and <number> is the sequential archive number given to each 4 GB archive. 2.
