ClearCube Enclosure Installation Instructions Hint: watching the video is much easier than reading this. Thank you for purchasing the PowerLogix ClearCube Enclosure for your Apple Power Mac G4 Cube computer. Although this manual provides all the information you need to assemble your ClearCube, we highly recommend viewing the installation video that came with your ClearCube. It will greatly clarify and speed up the installation. The video can be played on most computers (Mac or PC using QuickTime. Product Registration: visit www.powerlogix.com/support2/registration to register your purchase for warranty purposes. Warning! As with any hardware upgrade, back up your hard drive prior to installation. Your Cube is a static-sensitive device. It is susceptible to damage if proper procedures are not followed during installation. Although these instructions should provide enough detail for almost anyone to install the ClearCube, if you are not comfortable opening your Mac, please have your authorized service provider install it. System Requirements: Apple Power Mac G4 Cube. Prior to Installation Before installation, please refer to the illustrations in this manual to familiarize yourself with the ClearCube as well as procedures in opening the case of your PowerMac G4 Cube. Also, make sure to watch the installation video that came with your ClearCube on the CD. 1

Parts Included with the ClearCube 1 - Torx screwdriver 4 - Torx head machine screws 1- DC/DC Mounting Bracket 1- DC/DC Relocation Cable 2 each - Machine screws, plastic spacers, and nuts 1- Aluminum or Chrome perforated grille 1- ClearCube Enclosure 1- CD-ROM Disk (QuickTime installation movie and manual on disk) Remove the Cube Core Refer to your original Cube owner s manual. If you don t have one, it is available for download here: http://www.cubeowner.com/manuals/user_manual.pdf Shut down your Cube and wait five minutes for it to cool. Turn the Cube upside down and place onto a soft surface. Unplug all the peripherals except the power cord. Verify the power cord is plugged into a grounded socket. 2

Touch the bare metal of the AGP graphics card to dissipate any static charges. Then unplug the power cord from the Cube. Press onto the core release handle. The handle will rise; grasp the handle firmly and separate the core from the acrylic Cube enclosure. 3

After the core is removed, turn the core on its side until the DC/DC card is visible. The DC/DC Card is next to the video card, and on the opposite side of the memory sockets. Refer to the photo below. The 4 wire connector plugs into the DC/DC card. 4

Unplug the cable from the 4 pin connector on the DC/DC card. Release the latch holding the DC/DC card into the socket on the motherboard, and unplug the DC/DC card. (Refer to the video for more detail.) There are four screws securing the top, and two screws on either side of the top plate. Make a note as two of the screws are longer than the rest. The two longer screws mount in the center post of the core. 5

Remove all eight screws from the top plate of the Cube. The top plate is the metal piece in which the power button is located. It is on the opposite side of the Cube from the core release latch.. 6

Mount the DC/DC card onto the mounting bracket as shown using the screws, spacers, and nuts. Remove the center post screw on the side of the Cube with the Airport card or slot. 7

Mount the DC/DC card and bracket onto that side of the Cube. The center post screws hold the bracket in place. Remember the longer screw goes into the top plate. 8

Plug in the DC/DC card ribbon cable as shown. Make sure the red wire is oriented properly as seen in the figure. The lines in the photos indicate the red wire on the ribbon cable. 9

Reinstall the three remaining side screws to the top plate of the core. (One screw holding the DC/DC bracket is already installed.) Remember, the longest screw goes into the center post. Do not replace the four top screws. Once this is done your Cube core should look like this: 10

Put a soft cloth or plastic cover on the top of your original Cube enclosure. Take the Cube core and stack it onto the original Cube enclosure. Align the edge of the core so that the CD-ROM slot in the core aligns with the CD-ROM slot in the acrylic enclosure. 11

Take the grille and place it on the top of the Cube core. Align the four holes in each corner of the grille with the screw holes on top of the Cube core. Place the ClearCube enclosure over the Cube core. Align the four screw holes. Place the four long screws into the mounting holes on top of the ClearCube and tighten them slightly. Make any minor physical adjustments so that the grille and ClearCube align properly, and tighten the screws using the Torx screwdriver. Reattach the power cord and other peripherals. Congratulations! Your ClearCube is now assembled and is ready for use. 12
