PURPOSE OF THIS DOCUMENT: The main purpose of this document is to outline user s workstation requirement and some of the changes that users might be experiencing after the upgrade of the gateway site (https://gw.spok.com/gateway/). REASON FOR THE UPGRADE The reason for this upgrade is to better safeguard our customers data by using the latest security protocol, TLS1.2, to encrypt site data that are being transmitted over the open, public networks. TLS1.2 is also a requirement that is imposed by PCI DDS v3.1. This upgrade will also prepare us and our customers for continue PCI compliance. SYSTEM REQUIREMENT: - After the upgrade, the pc that customer/employee uses to access gateway will need to have the following: o A Web Browser that supports java applet. IE8-IE11 and Firefox do support java applet. Please note that the latest version of chrome and IE Edge do NOT supports java applet. o Web Browser that support TLS1.2 IE8-IE11 do support TLS1.2. But user might need to manually activate it. Below describe how one can activate TLS1.2 in IE: From IE browser s menu bar, click Tools => Internet Options. On the Internet Options screen, select the Advanced tab. Scroll near bottom of Settings list box, there should be a Use TLS1.2 check box. If it is checked, the TLS1.2 is activated. If not, click on the check box to check it, which will activate the check box. Below is a screen shot of the Internet Options Screen: PAGE 2 OF 7
Firefox also support TLS1.2. No manual activation is needed. o Java SE Runtime Environment 8 (Version 1.8) or later If the pc does not already have the java runtime installed, he/she will need to install it to use the gateway. If the pc has an older version of java runtime already installed, he/she will be prompted to upgrade it. Note: The following steps can be used to determine if the pc has java runtime already installed and what version it is: Click Window Start Menu Control Panel Change the View By to Small Icons. Look for the icon. If you don t see this icon, the pc does not have java installed. If you see this icon, click on it and select the Java tab and click View. You should see a list of java that has already been installed on the pc (See screen shot below). PAGE 3 OF 7
FIRST TIME ACCESS: - Depending on what Java runtime the PC already have or lack thereof, the user might be prompted for upgrading or installing the Java runtime on his/her pc: When Encountered Older Version of Java Runtime o If user access the gateway application and his/her pc has an older version of Java Runtime already installed, an error message about Java being out of date will be displayed on the top of the page (See screen shot below). User will have to click on the error message and select the update option and follow the installation instructions to install/upgrade the Java runtime on his/her pc. gateway once that is installed. When Encountered PC with no Java Runtime If user access the gateway application and his/her pc does not already have java runtime installed, an error message about needing java runtime will be displayed on the screen. User will need to install the java runtime to access gateway. PC With Required Java Runtime After the Java Runtime has been updated/installed or if the PC already has the required java runtime, the following screen will be displayed when accessing gateway. User will need to click Run to start and login to the selected Mcbell session. If user does not want to see this window again in the future, check the Do no show this again for apps from the publisher and location above check box and then click run. PAGE 5 OF 7
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ACTIVE X and JAVA APPLET TN5250: For the most part, the ActiveX and Java Applet versions of TN5250 session looks and works the same way. Differences are mainly on the Menu bar and the Tool bar on the top of the screen. Below are some of the differences, with the before and the after equivalent: Name Before After Note Disconnect Button To Disconnect the session. Connect Button To Reconnect the session. Menu Button Please note that some of the options in the menu button are no longer available in the Java Applet TN5250 session.
