If you re accessing MyUCLan from off campus or outside the university network then you ll need to login. Current students and staff - To log in, use your normal network username and password at the login screen. Applicants MyUCLan is not available for all of UCLan applicants yet. For login help please see the Need help logging in? information shown on the MyUCLan Welcome page as this will contain the up to date information.

I DON T HAVE A USERNAME AND PASSWORD You need to be a student at UCLan - or a member of staff - to access MyUCLan. If you haven t received a network id and password yet then visit the UCLan Login Details page for more information. I'VE FORGOTTEN/NEED TO CHANGE MY PASSWORD If you can t remember your password you can change or reset it by visiting the Passwords page or just click on the link below the login box. I M GETTING AN ERROR MESSAGE.. An error occurred while the system was processing this login request The username you entered hasn t worked. Make sure that you are using your network username and password and that the details are correct. UCLan usernames are not case sensitive. If you are still having problems please contact LIS Customer Support. Could not log in. Valid authentication credentials were not provided The password you entered hasn t worked. Make sure that you are using your network username and password and that the details are correct. If you are still having problems either contact LIS Customer Support or reset it by visiting the Passwords page or clicking on the link. MY LOGIN PROBLEM ISN'T LISTED Try logging in on a different PC, if you have access to one. If you can login successfully, you know that the problem is related to the original PC. Try resetting your browser settings to default. If you are using Internet Explorer you can do this as follows: Select Tools Internet Options and select the Security tab. In the area called Security level for this zone click Default level and then OK to reset your browser security settings. You may be using firewall or cookie blocking software which is preventing you from logging in to MyUCLan. Please contact LIS Customer Support if these suggestions don't resolve your problem. GETTING AROUND THE SITE MyUCLan is split into four different areas that you navigate via the tabs at the top of the page.

FOR STUDENTS, those tabs are: Home from the home page you ll get access to news, notifications and useful links as well as the information you use most often like your email, timetable, course information and study record from the sub tabs on that page Learning Resources helping you quickly find relevant study links, your library account information, online subject resources, quick links to book study rooms, reserve books, sign on to IT courses, buy print credits and search the library catalogue Student Life - brings together non-academic information to help you make the most of your time at UCLan - with links to the Student Union, the SU advice centre, nights out, health and accommodation info Student Support lists all the places you can get help from the university s support services whether you need to improve your study skills, need some help making friends or want financial advice. The first tab takes you to the Student <i> one stop shop, with sub tabs to support services, careers support, maps, guides FOR STAFF, it s the My Institution tab providing direct access to the virtual learning environment (Elearn Blackboard) as well as other links to useful information such as timetables, course information etc. FOR APPLICANTS, it s the Welcome to MyUCLan tab providing lots if useful information to help applicants get to know the University and communicate with their Personal Tutor. A NOTE ABOUT SUB TABS Sub tabs are those tabs that appear below the main navigation tabs. When you move around MyUClan between tabs, it will remember the last sub tab you visited so when you go back to a tab, say Home it will return you to the last sub tab you were in. For example if you check your timetable and then move to the Student Support tab, when you go back to the Home tab it will remember that the last place you visited there was the Timetable. SCREEN RESOLUTION MyUCLan may look a bit odd if you have an unusual screen resolution set. For example, if you are using Internet Explorer and the pages look really big and don t fit on the screen, you can change this by using the Zoom tool on the bottom tight of your screen, on the status bar. FINDING INFORMATION There's a lot of information in MyUCLan, and sometimes it might be hard to find exactly what you need. When you first start using MyUCLan, take a few minutes to explore what s in there and read around the tabs to familiarise yourself. You might not need this information every day, but it s good to know where to find it when you do need it. Each box of information is called a widget.

PERSONALISING WHAT YOU SEE One of the great things about MyUCLan is that it s specifically tailored to you, so it shows you information about your courses and details about your university account. MY COURSES AREN T APPEARING UNDER THE COURSE INFORMATION TAB The university is has just moved from one online learning system E-Learn (WebCT) to another ELearn (Blackboard). The majority of on-line learning will be delivered on Blackboard wil from September 2012, but you may be finishing off some courses that are on WebCT. Both will be available from with MyUCLan, on the Course Information tab. Once your ELearn (Blackboard) modules are available they ll appear on the course information page. If you re not seeing any courses listed at all, you might not be properly enrolled or you may not have been registered on the Module in our Student Records System. Speak to your module tutor about this. If you re having any other problems with MyUCLan, speak to LISCustomerSupport. CAN I CHANGE WHAT MYUCLAN LOOKS LIKE? You can personalise some pages on MyUCLan to show just the content you want to see. The Student Life tab can be personalised. You can add widgets, move widgets to change the layout of the page or delete widgets so they don t show on the page. Adding, removing and moving widgets To add widgets to a page: 1. Select the tab you'd like the widget(s) to appear on 2. Click Add Widget near the top left of the screen to browse a list of available widgets 3. Select the widget(s) you'd like to add and click the OK button at the very bottom right of the page If you change your mind and decide that something isn't useful, you can delete it by clicking the x in the top right of the widget box. If you don't like the way the widgets are arranged, you can move them. To do this: Using the cursor, click and hold the title of the widget you want to move Then drag the widget to your chosen location on the page until a frame with a dashed line black border appears, then drop the widget.

MY WIDGETS ARE TAKING UP TOO MUCH SPACE ON THE PAGE. CAN I MAKE THEM SMALLER? You can minimise widgets by clicking on the 'Minimize' icon in the top right hand corner of the widget. To get a widget back once it s minimised, just click on the 'Maximise' icon in the top right hand corner of the widgets box. CHANGING THE TEXT SIZE To change text size, use your browser's controls. For Internet Explorer: From the tool bar, select View > Text Size and then select a size. Using the keyboard, to zoom in, press CTRL +, to zoom out press CTRL -, to return text to normal size, press CTRL 0. For FireFox: From the tool bar, select View > Text Size and then select Increase, Decrease or Normal. Using the keyboard, to zoom in, press CTRL +, to zoom out, press CTRL -, to return text to normal size, press CTRL 0. For Safari: From the tool bar, select View > Make Text Bigger, Make Text Normal Size or Make Text Smaller. Using the keyboard, to zoom in, press Apple Key +, to zoom out, press Apple Key -, to return text to normal size, press Apple Key 0. LOGGING OUT WHY SHOULD I LOG OUT? If you are sharing a PC or laptop or on one of the university s pcs or laptops - then you should log out of MyUCLan once you re finished using it in order to protect your personal information. You should also then logout of the PC when you leave. If you do not logout of the PC and someone else then opens MyUCLan on that machine, it will remember you and show that person your personal details.
