Think of a password that you will remember that satisfies all of the criteria above. 2. In your User Account packet, there is a folded page. Open up that page. It contains temporary passwords that you will have to change to use the computer. NETWORK SIGN ON 1. When you walk up to the computer, you should see the window that states press CTRL, ALT, DEL to log on. You should also see this window when you walk away. 2. Press CTRL, ALT, DEL to log on 3. Click OK on the next window 4. At the top of the page that you opened up, above the long line, you will see a. WINDOWS ACCOUNT Username: VHALON plus what looks like part of your name. b. Type the VHALON name exactly as you see it on your paper in the USERNAME space. 5. Click or tab down to the PASSWORD space. We have given you a temporary password it is Pw# plus the last 5 - that is FIVE digits of your social security number. NOTE there is no space between the Pw# and the numbers. Also, type a Capital P, and a lower case w. Use the shift key to type the #. Press ENTER.
6. You have 3 (three) tries to get in using the temporary password. It will lock the computer after 3 tries if it is not right. If it locks up, you need to go to the IT Service Center for help. 7. If the computer screen opens up to a desktop with several icons, you have been successful in changing your temporary password to a permanent one for your Network Sign on. CPRS/VISTA SIGN ON 1. You have another set of codes to sign into CPRS.. 2. Click on the icon You should see a blue screen. Your mouse no longer works in this program. 3. Below the long line on your paper, are the words This is your permanent VISTA/CPRS Access Code: 4. At the ACCESS CODE: on your blue screen, type the Access Code from your paper exactly as it is printed include all numbers and symbols. If it is upper case, type in upper case. Press Enter. 5. At the next line, Temporary Verify Code: Type your temporary password from your piece of paper exactly as it is printed include all numbers and symbols. If it is upper case, type in upper case. Press Enter. 6. If after 3 tries, you cannot get into the program, you will need to go to the IT Service Center to have the problem corrected. 7. For your Verify code, use the Password that you already made up for the Network Sign on. After you are in the program, you will see: INITIAL: NU// Your initials will be here, press ENTER SIGNATURE BLOCK PRINTED NAME: NEW USER// Your name will be here. Press ENTER. If it is spelled incorrectly, go to the IT Service Center for correction SIGNATURE BLOCK TITLE: Type in your school, space, SN (student nurse) and then a number for your year of training. Press ENTER Example: CSULB SN1 This is a student nurse in her first year from CSULB. OFFICE PHONE Press ENTER, there may be a number but just press enter VOICE PAGER: Press ENTER DIGITAL PAGER: Press Enter Enter your Current Signature Code: You will use your Access Code for your signature code. Copy your Access code from your piece of paper. Type it in CAPITAL letters. Press ENTER. Type it again, and press ENTER. As you type, you will notice the cursor does not move. Nothing shows on the screen. This is normal for signature codes. Security agreement signature. 1. The next item that shows up, is a line stating Please read the following agreement completely. In order to access this system you must accept these terms.
Press ENTER to continue 2. If the screen still has Press ENTER to continue, press ENTER 3. You will see the beginning of the VA NATIONAL RULES OF BEHAVIOR, which you are required to sign and you will do so using your new signature code. A copy is included in your packet. You are just signing electronically. 4. If you do not wish to read all 278 pages on the screen, there is a shortcut to get to the signature line. 5. SHORTCUT: On the numeric keypad on the right, at the upper left corner is a NUM LOCK key. You are going to use this key with the E key (exit). You need to press the keys separately but quickly one after the other. Press the NUM LOCK key, release it and press the E key and release it. This will take you to the signature line Enter your electronic signature code: You are going to use your ACCESS code in CAPs. Type in your ACCESS code and press ENTER. You need to have your CAPs key on. Again, nothing shows as you type. After you press ENTER, you will see: DEVICE: HOME// press ENTER At Right Margin: 80// press ENTER 6. The next item you need to sign is the AIS Security Agreement. There is a copy in your packet. You are going to sign this electronically. 7. Use the shortcut again, press the NUM LOCK key, release it, then press the E key and release it. Enter your electronic signature code: Type in your ACCESS code and press ENTER. Remember to have your CAPs key on. Again, nothing shows as you type. After you press ENTER, you will see: DEVICE: HOME// press ENTER At Right Margin: 80// press ENTER 8. You should then see Select NURSING SERVICE MENU Option: Type HALT There will be a message and at the end you will see <Your 'SECURE SHELL' connection has terminated> At this point, you can click on the red X in the upper right hand corner to exit. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME YOU USE THE RED X. NEVER USE THE RED X WHEN YOU ARE IN CPRS. If you do, the patient s record may lock up. This is called the death X. If you do use the red X and lock the patient s record, no one else may be able to access it for 30 mins, 45 mins, 2 hours or OVERNIGHT! The person who next tries to use the patient s record that is locked will get a message with your name as the person who locked the record.
You do not want them looking for you because there is nothing you can do. They just have to wait until it unlocks. You are now set up with access to CPRS. You don t need to use this program anymore. It was just for setting up your passwords. From now on, your work will be done in CPRS the Computerized Patient Record System. That icon looks like this: RETURNING STUDENTS: If you are a returning student and in another year of training, you need to change your signature block 1. Click on the icon 2. If your access and verify codes still work, type them in and press enter. If you have been given new Access and Verify codes, follow the New Student instructions except for the signature block 3. 4. When you get into the program, you should be at the prompt Select NURSING SERVICE MENU Option: Type TBOX and press ENTER 5. At the prompt Select User's Toolbox Option: Type EL and press ENTER 6. Password and Verify code are the same password that you made up. Access code and Electronic signature code are the same from your piece of paper in your packet. The Domain should always be VHA22.
