EURO5 PASSTHRU REPROGRAMMING OF ECU S INFORMATION ON THE REPROGRAMMING OF ECU S WITH OTC D650 (INSTALLATION OF OTC PASSTHRU SOFTWARE ON PC/LAPTOP AND PROGRAMMING SEQUENCE)
D650 Info & Downloads Introduction To use the reprogramming of ECUs according to Euro 5, you will require the software application (OEM App) from the respective vehicle manufacturer (OEM) and the Euro 5 (PassThru) reprogramming software (J2534 DLL) from OTC. An overview of the interaction of the individual online portals, the OEM or OTC software and the D650 with the vehicle is provided in the graphic above. The basic procedure is as follows: First download the OTC Euro 5 reprogramming software from the OTC online portal and then install it on your PC/laptop. Then download the OEM-specific software application from the OEM online portal and install it in accordance with the specifications of the OEM. The use of the OEM portals from countries outside Europe is not possible or permitted by most OEMs. It is not possible to log in to/register for these portals. 2

Programming sequence Preparation OTC D650 Due to the faster reprogramming, the D650 must be connected to the PC/laptop via USB 2.0. The D650 must be connected directly to the USB connection and not via a USB hub (e.g. on a docking station), otherwise problems can occur when reprogramming. The D650 must always be operated via the provided power supply unit. Ensure sufficient battery voltage on the vehicle. Switch off consumers in the vehicle (e.g. air conditioning system, ventilation, etc.). Notebook / PC Operate the laptop with power supply unit. Switch-off the standby and sleep mode of the PC/laptop when reprogramming. Microsoft Update must be switched off for the time period of the programming In there is an antivirus program, the hard disk scan must be switched off When programming, you must not use any other programs on the PC/notebook. Miscellaneous In every case, the OEM-specific instructions must be followed Warnings must be set up for all components (charger, WLAN router, PC / notebook) to prevent inadvertent switchoff. 5
Programming sequence Reprogramming The power supply to the D650 and the USB connection between PC/laptop and D650 must be guaranteed during reprogramming. Establish the diagnosis connector connection between D650 and vehicle and secure diagnosis connector against falling out/down. Interruption of the connection during reprogramming can result in damage to the ECU. Connect the D650 via the OBD diagnosis cable to the vehicle. Reprogramming of the ECU via an OEM-specific software application can now be carried out in accordance with the OEM specifications. 6
Programming sequence Postprocessing After reprogramming, switch off the ignition, wait at least 30 seconds and restart the vehicle. After reprogramming, the fault-memory entries of the systems installed in the vehicle must be checked and deleted. The faults reported in the course of reprogramming are system-typical. Monitor and inspect initial operation of the vehicle or ECU and their detailed functions in a targeted manner following reprogramming. Carry out a test drive if necessary. 7
Notes on reprogramming General operating information and measures The OTC reprogramming Software (J 2534 DLL) is currently approved for usage with the manufacturers named under "OEM Info & Downloads" only. Specific information from the vehicle manufacturer on the OEM software application must be observed. Before reprogramming an ECU, always check which D650 firmware is recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Carry out a firmware update if necessary. Reprogramming of the ECU must only be carried out via the USB port (wireless connections are not supported for safety reasons). The power supply to the D650 and the USB connection between PC/laptop and D650 must be guaranteed during reprogramming. Ensure sufficient battery voltage on the vehicle. For the programming, through the charger, currents from 40 to 50 amperes in continuous operation must be available. The D650 must be supplied with voltage via a power supply unit, because when programming, interruption of the power supply via the OBD connection can occur. Warnings must be set up for all components (charger, WLAN router, PC / notebook) to prevent inadvertent switchoff. Provide an OBD connection between D650 and vehicle during reprogramming. An interruption of the connections during installation of the OTC Euro 5 (PassThru) or reprogramming can result in damage to the ECU. 8
Notes on reprogramming System requirements The PC/laptop used for reprogramming must meet the following requirements: Main memory: 2 GB Hard disk: 40 GB Interfaces: USB 2.0 Internet access, if required for OEM software application Operating system: MS Windows 7 (32/64 bit), MS Windows 8 (32/64 bit) Further restrictions and requirements may be associated with the OEM software. For the use of the OEM software, OTC recommends MS Windows 7. 9
Notes on reprogramming Installing OTC PassThru software on PC/laptop The following section describes how to install the OTC PassThru software: 1. Close all open applications. 2. Download the OTC PassThru application from the OTC website. 3. Execute the Setup of the OTC PassThru application. Double-click on the Setup to do this. 4. The Setup starts up. 5. Select the installation language and press to confirm. 6. Note the screen information and following the instructions. The OTC PassThru software is now installed on the PC/laptop. 10
Notes on reprogramming Configuration of the D650 for PassThru operation The following section describes how to configure the OTC PassThru software: 1. Start DDC "Start >> Programs >> OTC HUB >> Diagnostic Device Control". 2. Activate D650 with connection type USB and module usage PassThru (see DDC online help). 3. If necessary, update D650 firmware with module usage PassThru (see DDC online help). The D650 configuration for Pass-Thru operation is complete. 11
