Structure and Methodology This Report, entitled Pay-TV in Latin America: Cable, DTH and IPTV. 2012-2017, was drawn up in July 2012. It analyzes the legal Pay-TV market in the seven main Latin American markets: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela. The 2007-to-2017 period has been analyzed. This Report is divided in 8 chapters: one for each analyzed country, plus a regional summary chapter. Such country chapters respected the same structure: Households with TV set, Households with Pay-TV, Main Pay-TV Operators and Technological Option Positioning. The first subtitle analyzes Households with TV set since Dataxis considers that such variables account for the grounds of the Pay-TV analysis. The so-called Households with Pay-TV section offers figures of the evolution of Households Subscribed to Pay-TV services and Households with Free-To-Air Reception over total Households with TV sets for 2007-to-2017 period. In order to provide a context for such figures, this report includes an analysis of competition environment where certain political and regulatory issues impacting on the market structure are mentioned. The so-called Main Pay-TV Operators section includes the biggest companies profiles and charts describing the evolution of Subscriber Market Share Rates for 2007-to-2017 period. Finally, the so-called Technological Option Positioning section analyzes Subscriber Market Share Rates by Technology for 2007-to-2017 period. This study has focused on five technological options: Analog CATV, Digital CATV, DTH, IPTV and Wireless Terrestrial kind of options (MMDS and UHF). Therefore, Pay-TV Subscriber figures by Country, by Operator and by Technology are offered. Historical figures of Households, Households with TV set, Households Subscribed to Pay-TV services, Households Subscribed to Pay-TV services by Technology and Households with Free-To-Air Reception included in this Report have been gathered from public sources for 2007-to-2017 period. In those cases where such figures were not available, they were calculated by Dataxis pursuant own methods. Figures of Households, Households with TV set, Households Subscribed to Pay-TV services, Households Subscribed to Pay-TV services by Technology and Households with Free-To-Air Reception included in this Report for 2007-to-2017 period have been calculated by Dataxis pursuant own methods. Such forecasts were made in July 2012 and differ from those offered in previous years and probably from those to be offered in the future.

According to Dataxis analysis, Pay-TV market in the main 7 Latin American markets will record a total of 97.01 million Subscribers in 2017. Such figure will account for a 68,3% penetration rate over total Households with TV set; about 3.3 times those rates recorded in 2007. Brazil, Mexico and Peru seemed to be countries with the greatest evolution perspectives by 2017, due to their lower relative development rates. In turn, in the medium term, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Colombia will be the four biggest Pay-TV markets in terms of client volumes. Such four markets would record an 87.7% of subscribers in 2017. By 2017, the 94.8% of Pay-TV subscribers in the region was expected to be subscribed to some Digital alternative. Dataxis forecasts that DTH will account for the greatest growth alternative in the region and that in 2017 it will concentrate about the 61% of Subscribers. Dataxis identified Digital Cable as the second option of the market in terms of Subscriber concentration in 2017; that is almost the 28% of the total. Dataxis highlighted that IPTV will cover about the 6% of Subscribers. According to Dataxis, between 2007 and 2011, a strong business concentration had been recorded. In 2011, the main 10 Pay-TV Groups of the region recorded the 75.6% of subscribers; 12 additional points as compared with 2007. In turn, the two Groups recording the greatest growth rates over such analyzed period had been América Móvil and DirecTV; number one and two respectively in terms of number of Subscribers. Chart.
