1. BACKGROUND This business sustainability reporting platform addresses the specific circumstances of SMEs in a comprehensive way which allows business sustainability to be examined from all angles. It takes into consideration three aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): first, the value a firm attaches to CSR and business sustainability as evidenced by its vision and mission statements. The second is the process and the practices by which CSR is realized, focusing on the firm s management of CSR and its adopted CSR projects. The third is the positive impact of the firm s CSR practices on economic, social and environmental sustainability as it affects the well-being of individual stakeholders. The platform provides guidelines to enterprises to achieve business sustainability through continuous improvement. It gathers data that do not only capture a static picture of a firm s CSR profile, but as the firm is requested to submit information from year to year, it also reflects the dynamic change of its business sustainability over time. A cycle of improvement thus comes to place, where value drives the process, the process generates the impact, the impact provides feedback for improvement, and the improvements reaffirm the values. This document serves as an instruction-based guideline for the Hong Kong SME Business Sustainability Index Online Reporting Platform from Sustainability Management Research Centre (SMRC).
