PTC Navigate Trial Instructions Welcome to the PTC Navigate Trial! Product data is your organization s most valuable asset. Decisions made with this information can greatly impact your business, especially when it comes to product safety and reliability, speed of innovation, on time and on budget delivery, and so on. To realize the business benefits of good decisions and to avoid the repercussions of bad ones it is essential that stakeholders throughout your organization can access the most up-to-date product information whenever they need it. PTC s suite of Navigate apps make PLM data housed in PTC Windchill available to more of the enterprise in a highly consumable way, to extend the value of PLM to more product lifecycle stakeholders. By democratizing PLM data in this way, teams who impact the product throughout its lifecycle can easily access the real-time, change-managed, single source of truth for product knowledge, ensuring that every stakeholder involved in the product lifecycle is leveraging accurate information for their decisions. Client Prerequisites This exercise was developed using PTC Navigate 1.2. If available, please use Internet Explorer 11 OR Firefox 45+ to complete this exercise. Browsers such as Google Chrome and Mozilla will lead to loss of functionality within the trial. For the best user experience and to test out PTC Navigate s full capabilities, you ll need to download Creo. This trial works with Creo View Express 3.1, Creo View Lite 3.1 and Creo View MCAD 3.1. If you are not currently a Creo user, Creo View Express 3.1 can be downloaded by clicking on this page: http://www.ptc.com/cad/creo/view-mcad/extension-express PTC Navigate was designed for a screen resolution of 1280x1024. Results on other resolutions vary. Trial Instructions (30 mins.) Access PTC Navigate 1. Login using the username and password provided in your Welcome to PTC Navigate email. Once you have successfully authenticated, you should now have the PTC Navigate landing page loaded in the browser. If the browser does not load the landing page correctly after the first attempt, please refresh the page by hitting the F5 key on your keyboard. 2 P a g e
2. Select the View Part Structure tile to launch that app. 3. Enter 4940 in Search field, then click the magnifying class to execute the search. View Part Structure 1. Select part number 0021 from the structure table (you may have to scroll down in the table). This will show details of the selected part in the blue panel in the upper right hand corner, and as enables the cross highlighting in the Creo View representation. 2. Try selecting parts from the Creo View representation in the lower left hand corner and look for the Part Structure table to highlight the selected component. View Drawing 3 P a g e
1. Use the navigation shortcut to view the drawing for this assembly by selecting the View Drawing app shortcut from the tiles that appear below the Part Details information. 2. Depending on which browser you are using, you will be prompted to Open, Save or execute a Save As of the PDF representation of the drawing. 3. Select Open. 4. By selecting Open, the PDF representation of the drawing is opened in the browser. 5. After reviewing the drawing, please close the tab that the drawing opened up in within Internet Explorer. You should now have a page open in the browser that show the Parts Details with the header PTC Navigate View Drawing at the top of the page. The tiles available below the Part Details information allow you to quickly access the various view apps without having to execute the search over and over again to see relevant information for the part/assembly that you already found. 4 P a g e
View Parts Properties 1. Use the navigation shortcut to view the parts properties for this assembly by selecting the View Parts Properties app shortcut from the tiles that appear below the Part Details information. This app will allow you to review additional metadata about the part. With the out of the box deployment of PTC Navigate, only two additional attributes are displayed here. Additional Windchill based metadata fields can be configured and displayed using this part property app. View Parts List 1. Use the navigation shortcut to view the parts list for this assembly by selecting the View Parts List app shortcut from the tiles that appear below the Part Details information. This app will allow you to review a flattened parts list and also provide access to drawings for each part in the list if they are available. 5 P a g e
2. Selecting on any of the parts in the parts list will show you details of that part in the blue box in the upper right hand corner. Select part number 4943. 3. Select the View link in the same row of part number 4943 to open the PDF drawing of this part. 6 P a g e
4. When prompted by your browser, select to Open the PDF representation of the drawing. The drawing should open up in the browser. 5. Close the tab that the drawing opened up in and you should be back at the View Parts List for the assembly. 6. Select the hyperlinked number 4943 in the blue box in upper right hand corner. Remember, this blue box shows the details of the selected part in the Parts List table. If the part number 4943 is not displaying in the blue box, select it again from the parts list table at the bottom of the page. This will allow you to navigate between all the View apps for this particular part. Your browser page should look like this. 7 P a g e
View Design Files 1. Use the navigation shortcut to download neutral data such as STEP and IGES files that are created and associated to the version of the part that you are viewing. Select the View Design Files app shortcut from the tiles that appear below the Part Details information. 2. In this example, there is a STEP and IGES file available to download. 3. If you right click on either the IGES or STEP tile, you will be able to save the neutral data locally. Right click on the STEP file in the browser and select Save target as You will be prompted to select a target directory to save the file. Select a directory and click Save. View and Measure in 3D 1. Use the navigation shortcut to view and measure in 3D. Select the View and Measure in 3D app shortcut from the tiles that appear below the Part Details information. This will launch Creo View. Open up part number 4943 in the session to allow you to view and measure the representation of the model. 8 P a g e
View Document 1. Click the box in the upper left hand corner of the PTC Navigate page to get you back to the main landing page. 2. Select the View Document app from the landing page. 3. Enter *navigate* in Search field, then click the magnifying class to execute the search. 9 P a g e
4. The search result will bring you to the details page for the only document that matches this criterion. To download and open the PDF file, select the Open action. 5. Internet Explorer will then prompt you for what you want to do with the file. Select Open.
