Search (Start Here) You can search using any of the following information: Parcel Location (Ex: ALLENSVILLE RD) Parcel Record Number (Ex: 16694) Tax Map and Parcel Number (Ex: A64 25) Parcel Owner (LAST FIRST no commas or special characters) E-911 Address (304 S Morgan St) Road Name (leave off prefix and suffix) State Road Number Begin typing in the Search bar and options will appear. Click the best match and the map will zoom to the location you chose. You may have to scroll down in the list to see all options. The chosen item will be highlighted on the map and a pop-up box will display information about the item. Scroll down in the pop-up box to see more information. Find a Tax Card/Tax Photo Use the Search bar to find the parcel. In the pop-up box, scroll down and Click for Tax Card. The tax card will open up a new tab. (Depending on how you found the parcel, you may have to click the parcel to view to pop-up box.) Click the right arrow to see the photo, if available. Click the photo and it will open in a new tab. Print a Tax Card on a Printer Use the Print function on your web browser: Google Chrome: Internet Explorer: Edge: Mozilla: Click the three vertical dots in the upper righthand corner of the window and choose Print. Click the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner of the window and choose Print. Click the three horizontal dots in the upper righthand corner of the window and choose Print. Click the three horizontal bars in the upper righthand corner of the window and choose Print. More Options Click the three dots in the bottom right-hand corner of the pop-up box to see more options. You can Pan the Map to the parcel you clicked, Add a Marker, or View In Attribute Table. Attribute Table If you click View in Attribute Table, the table will appear at the bottom of your screen and show you the tax parcel information. Print About Prints the current view to a file This help document Basemap Click the Basemap button to activate the Basemap Gallery. Click to choose the basemap you would like to use. The map will update with the selected basemap. Click the X in the top righthand corner to close the Basemap Gallery. The 2013 Imagery is recommended, but aerial photos from many years are available. Updated basemaps will be added as they are available. Basic background maps (Dark/Light Gray Canvas) are good to use if you need a blank background. Person County GIS 30 August 2017 Page 5 of 11
Layer List Click the Layer List button to activate the tool. A list of available layers will appear. You may have to scroll down in the list to see all the options. Aerial Photos are located under the Basemap Gallery Click the box next to the name of the layer to turn it on and off. If the name of the layer is black, you are able to view it at your level of map zoom. When the layer name is grey, it is not visible at the current map zoom. Zoom In or Out to make these layers visible. In the image to the right the following layers are turned on: E-911 Addresses Watersheds Easements Parcels Roads Background Information However, only the Watershed and Background Information layers are available at the level of map zoom. Zoom in to view other layers and the layer names will change to black. Please note that turning on many layers at the same time will slow down the map. Person County GIS 30 August 2017 Page 6 of 11
Click the arrow on the left of each layer name to expand the symbols associated with each layer. In the example to the right, different kinds of easements are represented with different color dashed lines. Parcels are outlined in Red. The Fire Insurance layer has two sub-layers: ISO and Fire Insurance Districts. Click the arrow on the left of each layer name to view symbols for sub-layers. Click the arrow on the left of the layer name again to collapse the symbols. Layer Options Click the three dots to the right of a layer name to view Layer Options. Most layers will have the following options: Zoom to Zooms to the full extent of the layer. Note: not all layers are available at the full map extent. Transparency Change Transparency/brightness of layer on the map Disable pop-up Turns off/on pop-up box when you click the map Hide Labels Hides/Shows Labels. Note: not available for all layers Move up Move the layer above others on the map. Move down Move the layer below others on the map. View in Attribute Table Opens the attribute table for the chosen layer Person County GIS 30 August 2017 Page 7 of 11
Attribute Table Most data layers have Attribute Tables, or tables that contain more information. In the example shown below, the Person County Zoning Layer is turned on and visible in the map. According to the symbols and labels, this area has the following Zoning: GI: General Industrial (gray) R: Residential (yellow) B1: Highway Commercial (pink) To view the attribute table for Person County Zoning, click the three dots next to the layer name. Click View in Attribute Table at the bottom of the context menu. The attribute table will open below the map and show you more information about the Zoning shown on the map. The Person County Zoning layer attribute table shows the Zoning Classification, Zoning Description, and the Zone Type. You can click on any row in the table to highlight it on the map. You can use the options menu to change the columns or export the table. Person County GIS 30 August 2017 Page 8 of 11
Draw Click the Draw button to activate the tool. Choose a draw mode (hover over the buttons for a description) Choose your options for colors, styles, transparency, and width. The Preview will update with your selections. Click to show or hide measurements and choose units (feet, acres, etc.). Move the mouse pointer over to the map. Left click once to begin drawing. Double click the last point to stop drawing. The map will update to show your drawing and the measurements will be listed. These measurements are not legally binding and are not a substitute for surveys. Remove your drawing by clicking Undo. Redo will bring it back. Click Clear to remove all drawings from the map. Measure Click the Measure button to activate the tool. Click to choose to measure areas, lines, or X Y locations. Then choose your units from the drop down. Move the mouse pointer over to the map. Left click once to begin measuring. Double click the last location to stop measuring. The measurement result will appear. Click the map again to start measuring another location. These measurements are not legally binding and are not a substitute for surveys. Print Tool Click the Print button to activate the print tool. Type a map title, choose a layout, and a file format. Click Print and a file is generated which you can download, save, e-mail, print. etc. Click the name of the file to view or download. Person County GIS 30 August 2017 Page 10 of 11
Advanced Options: Click the Advanced button for additional options. You can choose a specific scale by typing in the Force scale box. Use the following chart to determine your specific scale: One inch equals: Force scale: 25 feet 375 30 feet 450 50 feet 750 60 feet 900 100 feet 1500 200 feet 3000 500 feet 7500 1000 feet 15000 You can choose to turn map labels on or off as well as the map legend.
