4 Getting Started Login Log in to Municipal Connect TM by entering the login and password provided by your local administrator. Direct to GIS Viewer You can move directly to the GIS Viewer at any time by selecting Map Viewer from the main header. Mapping Single Properties From General Property Details From the General Property Details screen, the selected property can be displayed on the map by clicking on the Map Viewer link. 3

5 Mapping Multiple Properties From Search Results Once you have used the Municipal Connect TM searching functionality to find properties (either Quick Search, Basic Search, Advanced Search, or Reports ), you can display the results in the GIS Viewer. On the search results page select the properties you wish to view on the map by clicking the boxes in the Select column. Selected properties are displayed in the GIS Viewer. 4

6 Basic Settings Map Size You can change the size of the viewable map in GIS Viewer to better fit your own computer monitor settings. Change your map size by selecting from the 4 standard sizes at the bottom of the screen. Map Scale The map scale within GIS Viewer will automatically change as you zoom in and out in the map view. The current map scale is always displayed on the bottom right corner of the map view. Maually change the map scale by entering in your own values and clicking the arrow button. 5

7 Managing Map Layers You can turn on or off map layers in the GIS Viewer by using the map contents window or the display manager. From the Map Contents window, turn layers on and off by clicking in the corresponding box. Click Apply to enact the changes. You can also turn on or off, and reorder, layers using the Display Manager. Click Display Manager. Turn layers on and off using the checkboxes. Reorder layers by toggling on the layer of interest and clicking the up or down arrows. Individual layers within a grouping or category can be found by clicking on the small arrow to the left of the layer grouping. 6

8 Toolbar Full View You can zoom out to the full extents of your authorized map by selecting the Full View button. Zooming You can zoom in and out using the Zoom In and Zoom Out tools, or by using the Zoom Bar. Click on the Zoom In or Zoom Out tool. Click in the map view. or Click on the Zoom Bar to zoom in or out a predefined increment. 7

9 Pan The Pan tool provides the ability to slide the map in any direction. Click the Pan button. Click on the map and hold the left mouse button. Drag the hand in the opposite direction you would like the map view to move. Release the left mouse button. Municipal Connect TM Information The Municipal Connect TM Information tool allows the user to select a property (or properties) on the map and view the associated assessment information. Click on the Municipal Connect Information tool. Click on the desired property in the map view. 8

10 Map Layer Information The Map Layer Information tool displays the map layer details. Click on the May Layer Information tool. Click on the desired property in the map view. Select the map layer from the Select Layer pulldown list. 9

11 Clear Selections Previous Map Print Map Use Clear Selections to clear any selected properties from the selections window and map view, and/or to clear Redlining objects you have created in the map view. Click the clear selection button. Previous map will recall the last map view that you were using. Click the Previous Map button. A standard map layout is available for printing maps. Select Print Map button. Two template orientations are available landscape and portrait. Select the desired orientation. Key in desired title, subtitle, and comments. Select from 3 print qualities. Click the Print Preview button. 10

12 Print the map from the File menu on the Print Preview window. Be sure the print layout in the printer settings matches that of your selection (portrait or landscape). Legend Legend button displays the current map legend. Click the Legend button to display the legend. Close the legend window by clicking the Close button. The Legend window can be moved to a different location on your screen by dragging the top grey bar of the Legend window with your left mouse button. Measure The Measure tool provides the ability to calculate lengths, areas, and coordinates in the map view. The Measure tool provide approximate measurements only, and does not replace a plan of survey. Zooming in as far as possible to the object you are measuring can increase the accuracy of your measurement. 11

13 Click the Measure tool on the toolbar. Select the desired units from the pulldown list. Click each point to draw the shape for the measurement lines for length, polygon for area, point for coordinates. The measurement is available in the window. To recalculate using different units, simply select another unit from the pulldown list. The readout will automatically be recalculculated with the new units. Selections The Selections tool provides the ability to select properties on the map by point or by area. 12

14 Click the Selections button. Choose from the point or area options and click the Continue button. Click on the map view to define the selection area or point. Click the Submit button. Note for select by area, any properties that touch the selections shape will be selected. Selected properties are now available in the Selections window. Click Property Info on the Selections menu to display the assessment details for the selected properties. Click the Done button when finished. 13

15 Menus Display Manager Display Manager provides the ability to turn on/off layers, reorder layers, create thematic maps, and display custom labels. Click the Display Manager link. For lots and concessions, toggle on the desired layers. Create custom labels by clicking on the Symbology icon. Click continue. Select the desired rendering options including field to label, label type, and cartographic options. Click Apply. 14

16 Create thematic maps by toggling on the desired thematic map and clicking Apply. Create custom parcel labels by clicking on the Symbology icon. 15

17 Click continue. Select the desired rendering options including field to label, label type, and cartographic options. Click Apply. Save My Map Save My Map provides the ability to save the map view location and settings that you have already specified and recall them at a later date. 16

18 Click the Save My Map link. Enter a name for the saved map and click the Save button. To recall a saved map at a later date, select the name from the pull-down list and click the Load button. Note selections and redlining objects will not be saved. Redlining The Redlining tool provides the ability to create temporary features in the map view. This is particularly useful prior to printing. Select the feature to draw from the pulldown list. To edit the feature style prior to creation use the Edit button. To edit the feature style after creation use the Review button. 17

19 Draw the objects in the map view. Generate url You can generate a url (internet link) that you can to a licensed coworker to access your map view. To access the map, the user must be an authorized user and log in to Municipal Connect TM. To generate a url to send to another authorized user, click the Generate url link. Key in a label for your map. Click the Copy url button, and then paste the url into your web browser or an . 18
