Installation To install this software release, follow the procedures in Table 1-1. To uninstall this software release, follow the procedures in Table 1-2. Note: This release does not support upgrading from previous software releases due to the integration with TimeCraft. Note: You must be logged on as Administrator to install or uninstall TimeScan NMS. Table 1-1. Software Installation Procedure Use this procedure to install this release of the TimeScan NMS software in a Windows operating system. This procedure assumes the following: The person installing the software has a working knowledge of the Windows operating system. A backup has been made of any previous TimeScan NMS database that is to be reused. The disk partition where the TimeScan NMS software is to be installed is formatted with the NTFS file system. The Windows 2000 Server (Stand-Alone Server type) is installed. Only the IP address field has been changed in the TCP/IP properties. All supporting hardware and software have been installed. Consult the manufacturer for instructions about installation and interactions with other software on the system. Windows Vista, XP Service Pack 2, or 2000 Service Pack 3 is installed. When installing on Windows XP, the installation may terminate unexpectedly with no error message when the user does not have administrator rights. If software, normally client software, is being installed from a network share on a Windows machine, installation may fail if the security setting used for the share does not grant the appropriate access. If this occurs, copy the software to a local disk and run installation from there, or, alternately, use the installation CD. Copy the License File 1. The TimeScan NMS license file is delivered on a floppy disk or by email. Copy the license file on to the workstation hard drive. Make sure license.lic is the file name. Note: To obtain the file license.lic contact Symmetricom Technical Support. Information needed for generation of this license: (1) MAC address of server (2) Hostname (3) Number of users/clients (4) Number of managed elements (5) TimeMonitor enabled (yes/no) (6) SNMP enabled (yes/no) Note: Each license file pertains to a specific MAC address. If your system has more than one network connection, for instance both a wired and wireless network connection, a license file will only apply to one server. If the network connection that correlates to the license file is not functioning, you can still have network access, but TimeScan will not function. 2. Open the license.lic file in a text editing program. Page 4 098-00021-000 Revision A September 2008
