Installing Command WorkStation version 5 and Fiery SeeQuence software This document describes how to install Command WorkStation version 5 software. Command WorkStation version 5 is the print job management interface for the Print Server, and allows Print Server operators (or users with Operator or Administrator privileges) to monitor and manage the print workflow of jobs on the Print Server. Command WorkStation version 5 can be installed: from the Fiery Command WorkStation version 5 DVD from the EFI website The following Fiery SeeQuence options kits are available for purchase for use with Command WorkStation version 5: SeeQuence Impose (includes a dongle) SeeQuence Compose (includes a dongle) SeeQuence Suite, which includes both SeeQuence Impose and SeeQuence Compose (includes a single dongle) NOTE: The term Aero is used in this document to refer to the Print Server in illustrations and examples. Page 2 About Command WorkStation version 5 Command WorkStation version 5 can be installed and run on computers with Command WorkStation, Windows Edition version 4.x. If you do not want Command WorkStation, Windows Edition version 4.x installed on the same computer as Command WorkStation version 5, specify to uninstall Command WorkStation, Windows Edition version 4.x during Command WorkStation version 5 software installation. For more information, see Installing Command WorkStation version 5 on page 4. To uninstall Command WorkStation, Macintosh Edition version 1.x, see page 3. NOTE: We only recommended that you keep the Command WorkStation, Windows Edition version 4.x software on your computer if you need to manage Print Servers not supported by Command WorkStation version 5. If all of your Print Servers are supported by Command WorkStation version 5, then we recommended you uninstall Command WorkStation, Windows Edition version 4.x when you install Command WorkStation version 5. Command WorkStation version 5 supports job management and server connectivity on older servers that support previous versions of Command WorkStation (up to Command WorkStation, Windows Edition version 4.x). However, when you connect to older servers that support previous versions of Command WorkStation, the new features will not be available. System requirements To install the Command WorkStation version 5 user software on a Windows or Mac OS computer, the computer must be equipped with a built-in or external DVD drive. The following table lists the minimum system requirements. Minimum requirements for Windows Mac OS Operating system Windows XP/Server 2003/Vista (32-bit versions only) Mac OS 10.4.9, 10.5.x CPU Pentium 4, 1Ghz G5, 1.6Ghz RAM Hard Disk SeeQuence software (available as an option) 1GB 500MB available for application installation 2 GB available for application use USB port for dongle enablement NOTE: If you have purchased an earlier version of Impose or Compose, you can use the dongles you already own to enable SeeQuence Impose or SeeQuence Compose. However, you will need two USB ports, one for each dongle. Or two parallel ports, if you have parallel port dongles.
Page 3 Uninstalling Command WorkStation, Macintosh Edition version 1.x Before you install Command WorkStation version 5 on Mac OS computers that have Command WorkStation, Macintosh Edition version 1.x, you must first remove the Command WorkStation, Macintosh Edition version 1.x software. NOTE: Command WorkStation, Windows Edition version 4.x can reside on the same computer as Command WorkStation version 5. However, if you want to remove Command WorkStation, Windows Edition version 4.x, you can do so during the Command WorkStation version 5 installation process. If you have any other EFI client applications installed that you want to keep, skip step 4 and step 5. Performing these steps may require that you reinstall those applications. TO UNINSTALL COMMAND WORKSTATION, MACINTOSH EDITION VERSION 1.X 1 On the Mac OS X drive where Command WorkStation, Macintosh Edition version 1.x is located, delete the folder \Applications\Fiery\CWS Macintosh Edition. 2 If ColorWise Pro Tools was installed with Command WorkStation, Macintosh Edition version 1.x, delete the folder \Applications\Fiery\ColorWise Pro Tools. 3 If ImageViewer was installed with Command WorkStation, Macintosh Edition version 1.x, delete the folder \Applications\Fiery\EFI ImageViewer. 4 Delete all the harmony files in \Library\Frameworks. These are files that start with the letter h and end in.framework (h*.framework). For example haddress.framework, or h10.framework. 5 Delete the file i1c.framework in \Library\Frameworks. 6 Delete the file or folder starting with "CWS" in users\<username>\library\preferences. The <username> is the username currently logged in to the Mac OS X computer. 7 If you have ColorWise Pro Tools and ImageViewer installed with Command WorkStation, Macintosh Edition version 1.x and you do not want to maintain your preferences, delete the folder "CWSPrefs," "CWPT Preferences," and "EFI ImageViewer Preferences" in users\<username>\library\preferences. The <username> is the username currently logged in to the Mac OS X computer. If you want to maintain these preferences, skip this step.
Page 4 Installing Command WorkStation version 5 The installer for Command WorkStation version 5 is provided on the Fiery Command WorkStation version 5 DVD and is also available from the EFI website. In addition to the Command WorkStation version 5 software, the installer installs the Java files required to use Fiery Setup from Command WorkStation. NOTE: Command WorkStation, Windows Edition version 4.x can reside on the same computer as Command WorkStation version 5. However, if you want to remove Command WorkStation, Windows Edition version 4.x, you can do so during the Command WorkStation version 5 installation process. TO INSTALL COMMAND WORKSTATION VERSION 5 ON WINDOWS COMPUTERS 1 Insert the Fiery Command WorkStation version 5 DVD into the DVD drive of the Windows computer. 2 Open the EFI Command WorkStation folder. 3 Double-click the setup.exe icon. 4 Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. NOTE: If you have a previous version of Command WorkStation installed, you are asked if you want to upgrade to Command WorkStation version 5 (which removes the previous Command WorkStation version), or if you want to install Command WorkStation version 5 without affecting the previous version of Command WorkStation.
Page 5 TO INSTALL COMMAND WORKSTATION VERSION 5 ON MAC OS COMPUTERS 1 Insert the FieryCommand WorkStation version 5 DVD into the DVD drive of the Mac OS computer. 2 Navigate to the location of the Fiery Command WorkStation version 5 DVD and open the EFI Command WorkStation version 5 folder. 3 Double-click the CWS5.mpkg icon. 4 Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. TO INSTALL COMMAND WORKSTATION VERSION 5 FROM THE EFI WEBSITE 1 From your internet browser, type www.efi.com/cws5. 2 Click the link for the software you want to install and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Configuring the connection to the Print Server The first time you start Command WorkStation version 5, you are prompted to configure the connection to the Print Server. You can also edit the configuration whenever there is any change to your Print Server or network, such as a changed server name or IP address. If you change Print Server Setup information, do so before you reconfigure the connection. BEFORE YOU BEGIN Print the Print Server Configuration page. For instructions on printing the Configuration page, see Configuration and Setup, which is part of the user documentation set. The Print Server Configuration page contains information you need when configuring the connection, such as the IP address of the Print Server. For TCP/IP installations, you can use the DNS name instead of the IP address. Make sure that the Print Server is registered in a Domain Name Server (DNS) on your network. For more information, contact your network administrator.
Page 6 TO CONFIGURE THE CONNECTION FOR COMMAND WORKSTATION VERSION 5 1 Start Command WorkStation version 5: From a Windows computer: Programs > Fiery > Command WorkStation version 5. From a Mac OS computer: Applications > Fiery > Command WorkStation version 5. 2 Type the DNS name or IP address and click Add to add the server to the Disconnected Servers list. If no Print Server is found, click the icon, and search by a range of IP addresses or by the IP address and subnet mask and click Go. Or select Auto Search. All available servers appear in the Available Servers list. To search for a particular server in the Available Servers list, type the server name in the Filter by keyword field. Select the Print Server that you want to use, click Add, and then click Connect. The Login dialog box appears. 3 Select Administrator, Operator, or Guest and type the appropriate password, if required. See your Print Server administrator for information on passwords for the Print Server you want to connect to.

Command WorkStation version 5 is now connected to the Print Server. For information about managing and connecting additional Print Servers, see the Command WorkStation version 5 Help.
Page 8 About Fiery SeeQuence Suite Fiery SeeQuence Suite software consists of SeeQuence Impose and SeeQuence Compose and is available in the following optional kit configurations: Fiery SeeQuence Impose kit (includes the Adobe Acrobat/Enfocus PitStop DVD and a dongle) Fiery SeeQuence Compose kit (includes the Adobe Acrobat/Enfocus PitStop DVD and a dongle) Fiery SeeQuence Suite kit, which includes both SeeQuence Impose and SeeQuence Compose (includes the Adobe Acrobat/Enfocus PitStop DVD and a single dongle) SeeQuence Impose and SeeQuence Compose are supported on both Windows and Mac OS computers. For information about system requirements, see System requirements on page 2. SeeQuence Impose allows you to apply imposition layouts to jobs for special printing and binding needs. In addition, SeeQuence Impose allows you to impose variable data printing jobs. To use SeeQuence Impose, you must have Adobe Acrobat with PitStop installed. SeeQuence Compose allows you to apply mixed media settings to your job in the same workflow as imposition settings. SeeQuence Compose is a software application that allows you to prepare a job (spooled or held in Command WorkStation version 5) to be printed. NOTE: SeeQuence Suite, SeeQuence Impose, and SeeQuence Compose are optional upgrade kits for Command WorkStation version 5. You must have the software kit-specific dongle installed on your workstation to use the full functionality of the optional software. If you do not have the dongle installed, SeeQuence runs in Demo mode. In Demo mode, imposed jobs print with a watermark, and you can save imposed jobs in.dbp format to the Print Server. You cannot save imposed jobs in Adobe PDF format to a hard drive and Print Server when you are in Demo mode.
Page 9 Enabling SeeQuence software SeeQuence Impose and SeeQuence Compose are dongle-protected features of Command WorkStation version 5 that work in conjunction with Adobe Acrobat and the Enfocus PitStop plug-in. You must install a special dongle on each workstation that runs the SeeQuence software. This section explains how to install the dongle and the required software. You will need the following items: Adobe Acrobat/Enfocus PitStop DVD: Contains installers for Adobe Acrobat version 9 and Enfocus PitStop, a plug-in module for Acrobat. NOTE: Acrobat must be installed on the computer to preview.ps files. You do not need Acrobat or PitStop to preview.pdf files. Dongle: A USB dongle included in one of the following option kits: Fiery SeeQuence Impose kit Fiery SeeQuence Compose kit Fiery SeeQuence Suite kit, which includes both SeeQuence Impose and SeeQuence Compose (includes a single dongle) NOTE: If you have purchased an earlier version of Impose or Compose, you can use the dongles you already own to enable SeeQuence Impose or SeeQuence Compose. If it is not already installed, you will need to install Command WorkStation version 5. See Installing Command WorkStation version 5 on page 4. Installing Command WorkStation version 5 installs the core SeeQuence software.
Page 10 To enable SeeQuence software on a client workstation (or the Print Server, if it supports and is equipped with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse), do the following: Install the dongle provided in your kit directly on the workstation. One dongle is required for each client workstation. Install Acrobat and PitStop from the installer DVD (Windows or Mac OS) provided in this kit. If not already installed Install Command WorkStation version 5 from the Fiery Command WorkStation version 5 DVD for this Print Server. NOTE: If you are enabling SeeQuence software on the Print Server, the following procedures assume that you have logged on to the Print Server with Administrator privileges and typed the appropriate password. To ensure network security, the system administrator may change this password frequently. Contact your Print Server administrator to obtain the password. TO INSTALL THE DONGLE 1 If Command WorkStation version 5 is installed and running on the workstation, exit Command WorkStation version 5. NOTE: If Command WorkStation version 5 is running, the dongle installation (described in step 2) will fail. 2 Unpack the dongle and install it directly into the workstation s USB connector. Insert the dongle into the USB connector of the workstation. Make sure that the dongle is securely installed in the connector. Install Acrobat and PitStop, as described in the following procedure.
Page 11 TO INSTALL ACROBAT AND PITSTOP 1 If you do not have the most recent version of Adobe Acrobat and Enfocus PitStop installed, uninstall the versions of Adobe Acrobat and Enfocus PitStop that are currently resident on the workstation. NOTE: SeeQuence supports Acrobat 7, 8, and 9 on Windows computers, and Acrobat 8 and 9 for Mac OS computers. Close all open applications. Follow the instructions for your computer for removing programs. After you finish uninstalling earlier versions of Acrobat and PitStop, restart the workstation. 2 Close all software applications that are currently running on the workstation. 3 Insert the Adobe Acrobat/Enfocus PitStop DVD (Windows or Mac OS) into the DVD drive. 4 If the installer does not start automatically, navigate to the root level of the DVD and doubleclick Setup.exe (Windows) or Setup.app (Mac OS). 5 Click Install and follow the on-screen instructions. The SeeQuence software option that you have purchased is now fully enabled.
