What is UniConnect? UniConnect allows you access to the following University of Sydney (USYD) resources: USYD Internet & Intranet USYD Citrix Delivered Applications such as Microsoft Office, HPC, RDS, Adobe, Blackboard, Records Online, HR Services, SPSS and much more. USYD FS1 Drive & FS2 Drive Files access USYD Research Data Store (RDS) USYD High-Performance Computing (HPC) USYD Email Accessing these resources via the UniConnect works in the hospital network environment and off-site (remote) locations. UniConnect - https://uniconnect.sydney.edu.au - is accessible on most computers via an Internet browser with a network connection. Prerequisites Before you begin, please ensure that you have the following before using the UniConnect: A University of Sydney staff UniKey account Internet access. Broadband or high-speed connection is recommended A desktop or laptop A web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome) The latest Citrix Receiver and HDX RealTime Media Engine installed. See below: PC MAC Requires Citrix Receiver 4.7. Download and install: CitrixReceiverPlusRTME.exe Requires Citrix Receiver 12.5. Download and install: Download Receiver for Mac AND HDX RealTime Media Engine 2.2.100 for Mac If you already have Citrix Receiver installed, click on the Log on link to proceed to the login page. Note: Most hospital computers have Citrix Receiver 4.x installed. If Citrix Receiver 4.7 is not installed on your PC or you have issues with installing Citrix Receiver 4.7, contact you re the University Service Desk. The University of Sydney 21/08/2017 Page 3 of 25
Accessing UniConnect 1. Open your preferred Internet Browser e.g. Internet Explorer, and enter the web address https://uniconnect.sydney.edu.au. 2. Enter your Internet credentials if required. 3. In the browser window, enter your University of Sydney UniKey Username and Password, then click Logon. 4. If Citrix Receiver has already been installed the browser will automatic detect Citrix Receiver and request for access. Please click on the Detect Receiver button. 5. Tick I agree with the Citrix license agreement and click on the Already installed link 6. The following screen displays once you have successfully logged on to UniConnect. The University of Sydney 21/08/2017 Page 5 of 25
Accessing Applications To access the applications available on UniConnect follow these steps: 1. Click on any application you would like to use, e.g. Word 2016, Excel 2016, Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, etc. 2. Using Internet Explorer, after you have clicked on an application, a Starting message will display. Once the green progress bar completes, the application will open. NOTE: If you are using Chrome or Firefox and a file was downloaded instead of the Starting message displaying, please see the section Chrome Browser Downloads Citrix Receiver File Fix or Firefox Browser Downloads Citrix Receiver File Fix for the solution. Adding/Removing Applications to Favourites 1. Click on the Details link next to the application icon. 2. In the application detail page, click on the Add To Favorites or Remove button if you had already added the application to your favourites The application displays in your FAVORITES section. Printing UniConnect is configured to use your computer s default printer. To print: 1. Go to the application that you want to print from, e.g. Microsoft Word, Outlook, etc., and select Print. 2. Select your preferred printer and click Print. The document you want to print is sent to a print queue. 3. Collect your printed documents from the selected printer or otherwise swipe your ID at the printer before collecting your document. Note: If you have any local printers settings that are not reflected in UniConnect, log out then log in again to apply the new settings to UniConnect. The University of Sydney 21/08/2017 Page 8 of 25
Accessing Files from Network Shared Drives on UniConnect Once logged into UniConnect, you can access your files on your network shared drive. 1. Click on Windows Explorer on UniConnect 2. All the network drives that are mapped on your local computer will display in Windows Explorer. NOTE: The local drive of your desktop/laptop i.e. the C drive is mapped on your UniConnect session as C: on computer name or the home drive H: will be mapped as H: on computer name. You can access the files on your C drive, or any network drives mapped in UniConnect. Mapping University Shared Drives (FS1, FS2 & RDS) If a University Shared Drive that you have access to does not appear in Windows Explorer you will need to map the drive: 1. Open USYD Network Drive Connector on UniConnect. 2. A Map Network Drive window should display 3. Enter the network share drive path name in the field and click Log in, e.g. For your personal drive - \\fs1.shared.sydney.edu.au\home\unikey For your departmental drive - \\fs2.shared.sydney.edu.au\department\ For your RDS share - \\research-data.shared.sydney.edu.au\<facultysharedname>. 4. The new mapped network drive should now appear in the Windows Explorer. If the drive does not show up immediately, try pressing F5 on the keyboard to refresh or close and restart Windows Explorer. How to Access or Save my Documents or Files When working on any application on UniConnect, such as Word or Excel, you can save your current work to various locations. These locations include your local C drive or network shared drives (both hospital and University) or any other mapped drives. For instance, when working on a new document using Word 2016, do the following to save the document. 1. Click the File menu on the top right. 2. Select Save or Save As The University of Sydney 21/08/2017 Page 13 of 25
3. Select the Browse option, and the University FS1 network drive should automatic connects. You can now save your document to any location available. When saving documents to the Documents folder, it will be redirected to your FS1 network drive, and you can view the files in the Document or My Document folder on FS1. Accessing High-Performance Computing (HPC) 1. Select the Putty application in UniConnect 2. A Citrix Receiver Security Warning message will display. Select the Permit all access 3. The PuTTY application should then display. In the Host name field enter hpc.sydney.edu.au and leave Port as 22 and click Open The University of Sydney 21/08/2017 Page 15 of 25

Common Messages and References Time Out UniConnect has three time-out stages: 1. At 30 minutes, the UniConnect website will log you off the website but your application(s) will remain opened. 2. At 60 minutes, the UniConnect application(s) on your desktop will automatically close, but it will remain running on the UniConnect server. The application(s) will automatically relaunch when you log back into UniConnect. 3. At 120 minutes, the whole UniConnect session will close and any unsaved work may be lost. If the following message displays. Click on Refresh to remain logged in or otherwise when the timer runs out it will automatically log you out of UniConnect website. Important: Please ensure that you save your work regularly to prevent any loss of work. The University of Sydney 21/08/2017 Page 17 of 25
Logging Off Hover your mouse over your name at the top-right hand side of your UniConnect portal, then click the Log Off option Windows to log off from your UniConnect Portal session. NOTE: If you logged off, you might still have an application might open in the background. This application will remain active for a period before automatically being closed. Any unsaved work will be lost; please ensure that you save all your work before logging off. The University of Sydney 21/08/2017 Page 18 of 25
SSL Security Certificate Error (You have not chosen to trust) When you launch an application on UniConnect and receive the following or similar error message: Cannot connect to the Citrix XenApp server. SSL Error 61: You have not chosen to trust... this means that the current version of Citrix Receiver you have installed on your PC or Mac is not compatible or supported by UniConnect. We recommend that you download and install Citrix Receiver 4.7. The University of Sydney 21/08/2017 Page 19 of 25
Citrix Receiver Security Warning The Citrix Receiver Security Warning displays every time you try to access your local C drive and network drives on UniConnect. It is part of the security feature, and you need to Permit all access for UniConnect to enable read/write access to your mapped network shared. This feature allows you to copy/move files between different drives. To allow this, do the following: When Citrix Receiver Security Warning message displays, select the Permit all access. Chrome Browser Downloads Citrix Receiver File Fix When opening an application in UniConnect using a Chrome browser, a file is downloaded instead of automatically opening the application. To fix this issue, do the following: 1. When loading an application in Chrome, a file like the one shown in the screenshot below - VW5pQ29ubmVjdFhBN3guV29yZCAyMDE2.ica or similar downloads (usually appears in the bottom left corner of Chrome). 2. Click on the symbol ^ on the right of the download file and select Always open files of this type 3. Relaunch the application, and it should now automatically load the application via UniConnect. Firefox Browser Downloads Citrix Receiver File Fix When opening an application in UniConnect using a Firefox browser, a file is downloaded instead of automatically loads Citrix Receiver. To fix this issue, do the following: 1. When loading an application in Firefox, a pop up window displays indicating You have chosen to open: VW5pQ29ubmVjdFhBN3guV29yZCAyMDE2.ica 2. Make sure Open with Citrix Connection Manager (default) is selected 3. Check Do this automatically for files like this from now on. 4. Select OK 5. Zone Security settings For a better user s experience, it is recommended that the UniConnect website is added to the Internet Explorer security to avoid any interruptions. To do this: 1. Under the Tools menu and select Internet Options 2. Select the Security tab and then the select to Local intranet and click on the Sites button. The University of Sydney 21/08/2017 Page 23 of 25
3. Click on the Advanced button 4. In the field Add this website to the zone: enter the website address https://uniconnect.sydney.edu.au and click Add then the Close button 5. Close and cancel all setting windows until you are back at the main page of Internet Explorer. The University of Sydney 21/08/2017 Page 24 of 25
Planning and Reporting (Hyperion) Bindows Error When loading the Planning and Reporting Hyperion application in UniConnect the first time a Bindows screen loads instead of the login screen. To fix this issue, do the following: 1. Click on the tools icon on the top right corner of Internet Explorer and select Compatibility View Settings 2. In the Add this Website: field, enter sydney.edu.au and select Add 3. Select Close, and Hyperion should now display the appropriate web page. The University of Sydney 21/08/2017 Page 25 of 25
