1 Installing Office 365 Desktop Apps on Windows This guide takes you through the process of installing the full Microsoft Office suite on Windows (currently Office 2016 or 2013) for free. Both staff and students at Goldsmiths can download Office and install it on up to 5 personal devices (PCs, Mac, Tablets, Mobile phones). 1. Open your browser and enter into the address bar 2. Log in to your account using your username and password. 3. Once logged in to your , click the Cog Wheel in the top right corner of the window. From the dropdown menu, click Office365. Page 1

2 4. On the left side of the window select under Install Status, click Install desktop applications. Page 2

3 At this point you will be offered the choice to download Microsoft Office 2016 (Recommended) or Microsoft Office 2013 for Windows (only download for compatibility reasons). Installing Microsoft Office Click on Install 2. Save installation file to your Downloads folder. 3. Once the download has completed, open the file ending in.exe 4. If you have UAC enabled, you will be prompted click Yes. Page 3

4 5. Allow the installation to run (as seen in the screenshots below) once completed, click the close button Page 4

Open an Office Application (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook, OneNote) from the Start menu (This differs slightly depending on the version of Windows you are running) - Windows 7: The Start button All Programs. You will find all of your Office applications under this folder. - Windows 8 / Windows 8.1: Press the Win button on your keyboard, the Start menu opens. Click the down arrow button on the bottom left and scroll to find the Office apps. - Windows 10: Click the Start button All Apps. You will find all of your Office applications under this folder. - Windows 10 Anniversary Update: Click the Start button. You will find all of your Office applications under Recently Added section. 7. When opening your first office app for the first time, you will be prompted to accept the Microsoft Office License. Click the Accept button. Page 5

6 8. You will need to sign in using your e.g. Then click the Next button. 9. A new window will pop up, activate the product. Enter your username (e.g. jblog001) and associated password. Then click the Sign In button. Page 6

7 Microsoft Office 2013 Install 1. Click the arrow next to Install Office 365 ProPlus with the 2013 Apps a. Select your language, we recommend keeping the default. b. Choose the Version, either 32-bit OR 64-bit. We recommend using the 32-bit version even if you are using a 64-bit Windows. c. Click on the Install button. 2. Office will start now to install. The Welcome Screen will pop up while Office is installing in the background. Click Next and follow the installation instructions. Page 7

8 3. Click Sign in. 4. When prompted, enter your username in format (e.g. Click the Next button 5. Enter your associated password. Tick the box Keep me signed in. Click the Sign In button. Page 8

Go to: - Windows 7: The Start button All Programs Microsoft Office You will find all of your Office applications under this folder. - Windows 8 / Windows 8.1: Press the Win button on your keyboard, the Start menu opens. Click the down arrow button on the bottom left and scroll to the right to find the Microsoft Office 2013 folder. You will find all of your Office applications under this folder. - Windows 10: Click the Start button All Apps Microsoft Office You will find all of your Office applications under this folder. - Windows 10 Anniversary Update: Click the Start button Microsoft Office You will find all of your Office applications under this folder. 7. Open Word Office will ask you to select the Default File Types. a. Click Office Open XML formats. b. Click OK.
